I made it about 10 minutes in The Sex Lives of College Girls.  What a hunk of poo.  Thought we were beyond making a mockery of ethnic stereotypes.  The portrayal of the Indian American family was just painful to watch.

isn’t it from Mindy Kaling?  Seems odd they would do something offensive towards southeast Asians.

Same here. Was terribly written and terribly acted.

Anyone else watching Yellowjackets on Showtime?  3 episodes in but its pretty insane so far.

Its about a high school girls soccer team whose plane crashes out in the mountains.  Flashes back and forth between their time in the woods (1996) and the survivors in present day.

Wont spoil anything (although the general theme shows itself in the opening scene) but its pretty intense.  Some pretty solid actresses in it (Juliet Lewis, Christina Ricci).
Binged this to the current episode yesterday. Pretty good so far. Want to see where this goes.

Told my son about it. Said it was Ladybugs - True Detective - Lord of the Flies.

Watched Finch on Apple + with Tom Hanks.  7.5/10
been waiting to hear about this... looks absolutely awful from the previews- like one of those goofy terrible 80s robot come to life movies. but with a dog too. and yet.. Hanks- so how bad could it be?

I dunno. I haven't seen it yet, but I love all the things (Hanks + robots + dogs + apocalypse movies), so it sounds like a must watch for me.

now my wife on the other hand...

But man some of these episodes are depressing. Like watching game of thrones in real life,  :sadbanana:
Depending on accuracy it really makes you wonder about the FDA and how things get approved and if it really is in the best interest of the greater good.  Sure seems counter to that which is very eye opening in light of our current health risk situation.   Right or wrong, it does make you wonder who to trust.

I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Hanks is Hanks, but I I ended up loving the damn robot most of all. Well done and should be good for kids.

Emily in Paris S2 is out today on Netflix. My wife really likes this one and it's easy enough to watch with her. I'd easily pick this one to be her TV wingman over some of the other nonsense she watches.

Don’t Look Up on Netflix was entertaining.  Numerous legit laugh moments and a fun cast….Leo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill, Meryl Streep, etc.  Thumbs up.

Watched S1 a little while ago.  Thought it was ok, not great. Learned what an Eiffel Tower is. Never heard of that before.

Yeah, it was pretty good. I think Jonah Hill is a good actor, but part of me thinks he must be a weaselly doosh in real life. Like he would tell the Nazis you were hiding in the attic with your family without too much pressure.

Didn't love it as much as I thought I would but it was good. Perfect satire for our times right now.

It can't be funnier than a line from a review I read that the show included "a lot of good, big time actors...and Timothee Chalamet".

Been out three years but really enjoyed John & Yoko: Above Us Only Sky

on the heels of watching Get Back it was fun to watch the process of making the “Imagine” album

that's all very good.  hopefully, if it really makes you wonder, you will dig a little deeper.  Aloha.

that's interesting.  can you ask that part of you why it thinks that, and let us know?

Three episodes in and I’m certain Station Eleven is the best show of 2021. Absolutely fantastic acting and storytelling.

I brought it up in the Leftovers thread, as it has a writer from there. We're one in....slightly annoying, but slightly stunning start. S1 leftovers was similar for me.

I may have to watch this one. The Leftovers was the best show I've ever seen.

I liked it. Pretty much a documentary unfortunately.

Not a Netflix show, but streaming until New Years:  Vets Aid 2021

Joe Walsh & Friends Present VETSAID 2021: The Basement Show. This year’s streaming event includes… * The debut of some brand new music from Joe Walsh and Band (featuring Benmont Tench, Waddy Wachtel, Lee Sklar and Russ Kunkel) * An extended jam with Joe, Band and Ringo Starr! * A Tour of Joe’s Basement Studio and Guitar Collection * Joe’s most personal interview ever (with fan-submitted questions!) * Unreleased VetsAid vault performances from Joe, James Taylor, ZZ Top, Sheryl Crow, Jason Isbell, Nathaniel Rateliff, Eddie Vedder, Willie Nelson and more!

If you have $20 for a great cause, and about 5 hours before new years this is well worth your time and money. Some great acts, entertaining info from Walsh and a ukele virtuoso that will blow you away.

Let me put in a plug for Arcane on Netflix. For full disclosure, this show is: 1) animated, 2) based on a video game world, and 3) rated TV-14.

All that notwithstanding, the show is pretty amazing. The art style is unique, the story is good, the music is great, and there are plenty of ‘whoa’ moments. I’ve never played the game (League of Legends), but the show hooked me.

Hill - Don't forget to like and subscribe.

I didn't think that Don't Look Up was very good.  I got through it but the satire was too blunt, I like things a little more subtle.  The story was simple and Jennifer Lawrence's haircut was beyond terrible.

I'll go two stars out of 5 because I didn't turn it off.

It looks like the 4th season of Bordertown is on Netflix now. For those who didn't watch the first 3 seasons it's an excellent Nordic noir series set in a small town in Finland very close to the Russian border. From watching various Nordic noir series they all seem to involve twisted crimes, an exceptional police detective with serious personal problems, very bleak geography and/or weather, and iffy, vague morality. Bordertown is one of the best of the genre IMHO because of the detail in which the main characters are portrayed.

Others in the genre are Deadwind (Karppi), The Bridge (Bron/Broen), The Killing (Forbrydelsen),  Trapped (Ófærð), The Valhalla Murders, and others. I recommend all of those.

If you want just a 1-season stab then maybe just watch the new season 4 of Bordertown. If you want to sink in I'd suggest starting with season 1. The end of season 3 made it seem like the series couldn't possibly continue (don't want to give away the reason) but apparently it has.

First 3 seasons were excellent, so I'll start season 4 tomorrow.

edit: lol, now I find out Season 4 of Bordertown is a movie, not a whole season

Gb, I think what you may be seeing is actually a movie with the Bordertown characters, instead of a fourth season. Unless I missed something. I liked the series a lot, too, and enjoyed this movie as well.

This isn't the only time a series has wrapped things up with a movie length feature. The very weird series Sens8e did it and it looks like Ray Donovan is doing it, too.

It seems that we share a taste for Euro crime dramas because I've seen just about everything you listed. Trapped was great.

I haven't watched it yet so thanks for the heads up.

I like Euro crime dramas but especially the Nordic ones. The first season of Trapped was excellent, really claustrophobic. And while it's not a crime drama, Katla is another good one from Iceland. Bleakest setting of any of those series, and really creepy at times.
