This is a great show, you just can’t help but root for Attorney Woo. Hard to believe she is the same actress who starred in The King’s Affection. I didn’t recognize her at first.
Is this any good? Might start this next.
Two more episodes of Extraordinary Attorney Woo release today and tomorrow. Must see tv on Wednesday & Thursday nights in our house.
***************
My wife is on the spectrum and it’s interesting to note the reactions in the autistic community. Overall very positive, with reservations.
Representation is great. Autistic women are better at masking and ten times more likely to be misdiagnosed than men. I can’t think of another autistic character who is female? That aspect is cool.
The actress initially turned down the role bc she didn’t want to perpetuate stereotypes. Things like struggling with a revolving door (or escalators) hits. The oversharing of favorite topics (whales.) Daily encounters with ableism. Details! Like her dad cutting off the tags from new clothes so they’ll be more comfortable - this would nigh impossible for Attorney Woo to do or even watch lol. The stress of her first day in a courtroom.
Then she floats out & gets up the next day, NP. Unrealistic we see nothing of what she must do to decompress/recover from what would have been an exhausting experience. In that sense it’s just another show about autism from an NT perspective.
Big sigh it’s another KDrama depicting a savant (
Good Doctor); the obvious subtext is “well at least they’re a genius” to make up for their ‘lack’ of social skills. There might be 25 prodigious savants in the entire world. A normal IQ autistic character would be less compelling entertainment? IDK
The character is more fully developed and multidimensional than the male character in
Move to Heaven. They infantilize Attorney Woo somewhat - then again a lot of KDrama’s do that to their female leads; cuteness over substance.
Not complaining, it’s a fantastic show! I’m fully invested in the character. Just relaying thoughts I’ve read in autistic forums - mixed reactions of “yeah love the character/show, but one thing that bothers me…” Just another perspective for NTs to think about as we watch it.

***SPOILER***
I’m wondering if the meeting with her mother ends that character…or if we’ll find out later she too is on the spectrum but is better at masking than Attorney Woo.
