Watched the Witcher origin - the one with the lowest rating in Netflix history. Not sure what all of the anger is about.

It was perfectly fine as long as your goal isn’t going in with intent to criticize every little thing about what you watch. I’m glad I saw it before hearing others’ thoughts so I didn’t predispose myself going in.

Any strong opinions on the following?

Slow Horses
Limitless(the series)

I've read a few reviews from people here on Slow Horses that are not favorable. I thought season 1 was pretty good. I think what I've seen of Season 2 (which is all of the available episodes) is better.
Gary Oldman is great.
I personally love slow horses. Gary Oldman misfit humor, complex who dun it’s, characters aren’t safe. My only complaint is too few episodes per season.

Based on this I'll give it a shot.

Enjoying Willow a lot more than I thought I would. Characters are plucky and fun, Christian Slater randomly shows up, solid, lightheaded fantasy show.

I’ll probably grind my way through to the end because I hate myself a little inside, but I think it’s a staggeringly bad show and I am predisposed to all things with even a whiff of fantasy/sci-fi.

The Kit character is totally unlikeable.

Best part for me through 5 episodes was the Hannah Waddington cameo. Too bad she doesn‘t have a larger role.

Finished up the newest season of The Crown. Weakest season so far but still ok. Dominic West was a distraction for me as Charles since he's too familiar. The woman playing Diana was way too tall and her facial expressions seemed exaggerated. I feel like they portrayed her as more psychotic than I believe she was. The Queen and Philip were both good, imo. Just wasn't as interesting as previous seasons.
Loved this show but I think I have the same sentiments as what they are covering has gotten more closer to current times. We have watched a couple of this season and haven't rushed to watch the rest. The whole Diana / Charles storyline is also not overly interesting. Agree also that Dominic West doesn't look right in this part.
We got up to the final episode. I think it got much better as the season went on.

Dominic West is a great actor but he doesn’t look anything like Charles and he’s been in too many things, agree that was distracting. I think the woman who played Diana was excellent though, but I don’t really remember too much about her and don‘t know specifics or recall most of the circumstances they built episodes around.

Seeing how they portrayed all these issues - including the artistic licenses they took - the perspective of the moments, and the production value of the series has been what I have enjoyed the most. Will be bummed after the last one.

Quite frankly, Dominic West is far too attractive to play Prince Charles. That was an insane casting choice for a show that nailed almost all of them.

I can't imagine not liking For All Mankind
So it gets better?

I made it halfway through season 3. I liked it at first but it lost me. I mean they're at the point of reaching Mars and I couldnt help thinking that this could be the coolest show ever, but the characters are all pretty bland, and I just didn't care. The best parts of the show are when they show how the timeline differs from our own and they only really do that at the beginning and end of seasons.
Season 2 is one of the great seasons of television, but reviews like this have stopped me from renewing my subscription to catch up with season 3. I’ll probably give it a shot when Ted Lasso comes back.
Apple is arguably putting out the best original content right now of any streaming platform (outside of maybe HBO). Leaving aside FAM and Lasso.

I do agree that season 3 of FAM jumped the shark a little bit. However, like Yellowstone (which has fully jumped the shark), it is worth watching just for the cinematography in Dolby Vision.

Glass onion wasn't as good as the first but was ok

This was my take. I really enjoyed Knives Out and we made it a family movie night with the kids. Was a partial dud - nobody hated it or loved it.

I like Daniel Craig's character but as someone said, the Foghorn Leghorn gets a little much at times. I think the difference in this one and the first one was I enjoyed the supporting cast much more in the first one. I'd watch a third one.

Currently watching the Swedish series Springfloden (Spring Floods), (Swedish with subtitles), 2 seasons, 10 episodes each, about 45 min./episode, and I'm at S01 E06. Interesting series, involving a college student preparing for police work studying an unsolved murder case from years ago and then getting very engrossed in it. Julia Ragnarsson is the college student and does a decent job in the role and is impossible to look away from when she's on camera. Other characters are fleshed out well enough to be believable. And as usual in Scandanavian series big business is involved in a bad way. At this point it's both interesting and enjoyable.
The ending for season 1 was believable and also quite surprising. A fair number of series don't accomplish both those things. Definitely enjoying it, and have started season 2 (free 7-day trial of MHx Choice through Amazon Prime).

Splinter (Hulu): Horror movie, pretty much zombies but a bit different. A couple hijacks another out in the woods, and both end up at a gas station with no communications. Zombies ensue. This wasn't bad, wasn't great either. I'm not mad I watched it.

Sissy (AMC/Shudder): I thought this was a really cool concept. In Australia, a mental health influencer runs into her childhood friend and they head to a remote house with some friends. Our main character's childhood bully is there as well, and it opens up some trauma for our character. This movie had a clear new (to me) concept and executed it well. I can't remember where I heard/read a recommendation for Sissy, Speak No Evil, and Deadstream (I'll watch that soon), but the first two were good.

ETA: Some SNL-level bad effects in about 3 spots in this movie - throwing a dummy off a cliff, terrible rubber heads... it's still good, but man, those three shots were bad.

Pretty sure it's related to Cavill walking from the series due to the show runners deviation from the source material.

Yeah heard that, but specifically aimed at this prequel where he’s not involved and was never intended to be involved seems silly. It isn’t some Emmy award winning series, but if you like the Witcher, not sure why you wouldn’t like this one.

I get folks being book/game/movie purists so maybe that’s it. I don’t know the source material so maybe it’s me or it’s to my benefit.

Review bombers are typically not the smartest folks...look at all the folks losing their minds about James Gunn building the DC universe in a cohesive manner and not including the Superman that Cavill played.

Netflix - Blood Red Sky.. All I read was. Hijack , seemed easy, doesn't go as planned.. decided to watch..

I had NO idea what I was in for.. And that was a good thing.. Completely caught me off guard..
One of the few movies where starting near the end, then using flashbacks fills in the story very well.

Don't read any reviews.. Just go watch and hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did.

Yeah, I liked that one. They took their time before it changed. I liked both halves of the movie.

Too Funny to Fail (Hulu): Interviews to tell the story of the Dana Carvey show, which had a ridiculous concentration of talent, but only got 7 episodes aired.

This was great. It was mostly Carvey, Smigel, Carell, and Colbert telling the story (best not to include Louis CK). The fact that they all went on to greatness let them tell the story without dwelling on the failure.

Glass Onion was about what I expected it to be. It was entertaining, nothing ground breaking but not a bad way to spend a couple of hours either.

Im on the last episode of White Lotus, think this season has been better than last but liked them both.

Just a couple of episodes into Three Pines, seems like it will be good.

Wife and I just finished bingeing The Last Kingdom (yeah we were very late to the party).

Fantastic ride. Enjoyed each and every season.

We then ran right through all 8 episodes of The Bear (Hulu) in two days. Loved it.

The Terminal List, Mayor of Kingston and Succession are next up.

The Last Days on Mars (Tubi): A space zombie movie! I didn't know this was a zombie movie when I started watching it, and honestly, once it turned zombie I was a bit disappointed - I was assuming this would be like the movie Life, which was pretty cool. This looked good - the sets were convincing, everything looked good in the environment. The fights with zombies were a bit clunky, but the zombie effects were fine. The ending was inevitable and made sense.

So, accidental zombie move was above average, worth a watch.

Jack Ryan S3 was fine. I thought it was probably a bit better than S2. I don't regret watching.

Gave up on episode 3... and I liked the first two seasons.

The nuclear weapon plot has been so overdone, I almost turned it off after episode 2 but powered through a few more episodes out of boredom.

Really disappointed. Watching Andor again now.

I couldn't get through the first episode of Three Pines. Horrible acting, people were all generic caricatures, silly dialogue and what little I saw seemed to point to a very woke show.

Also gave up in the first episode of a Netflix show called Treason. Just a bad network drama. The boss of MI6 gets poisoned but that doesn't stop his number 2 from getting home to tuck in his kid that night and have sex with his wife, as if there isn't anything else to do that night.

I kinda liked Three Pines. Didnt get much of a woke vibe, but to be fair the underlying theme is all about the treatment of the indigenous peoples in Canada.

Only bad actor that stood out to me is a kid but that generally comes with the turf. Really liked all the ”cop”actors. Townsfolk? Meh. But you can hope one of them does periodically.

Its set up similar to shows like Shetland, where you have two “long” episodes for each murder over the course of a 6 episode season.

I kinda liked it as well, and the only vibe I got was "Canadian perspective" instead of "USA perspective" which is to be expected. Letterkenny should have set off far more woke detectors than Three Pines, to be faiiiirrr.

There was certainly nothing remarkable about the plot but the season had a few strong characters which made it perfectly watchable for me.

Woke seems like a weird way to describe it.

Paul T Goldman (Peacock) is absolutely bonkers and irresistibly watchable. I think I like it, but I'll save judgement until after I've seen all 6 episodes.

This show got me into the book series, really fantastic character.

But it's in line with what's kind of playing out on the world stage right now. It wasn't the nuclear weapon plot.
High level it was a plot to destabilize Europe and to cause the countries that rely on NATO to turn from them. This opens the door for Russia to try and regain all of its lost territories. I have read a couple of different books recently that have this as a central theme, seems very relevant IMO.

I watched a LOT of TV these past 7 days:

TREASON (Netflix)
5 Episodes.
This was average at best, until the last episode and it got so bad it was laughable. It was good enough for the first 4 episodes to keep me watching, but then the last episode had the quality of a bad T.J. Hooker episode, minus Heather Locklear. It was REALLY bad.

The RECRUIT (Netflix)
8 Episodes
I watched the trailer for this and took a pass to watch the previous mentioned TREASON.
This turned out to be significantly better. Quirky with humor but then became unexpectedly darker as the series went on. Ends with a scene that looks like a sure Season 2 must be coming. I don't think I loved this program, but I did like it enough that I would say, if you have nothing else to watch, this is worth a cold winter weekend binge. It has some b-level prodcution, but surprises at times with how much I enjoyed it. It has fun and sometimes interesting secondary characters.

Kaleidoscope (Netflix)
8 Episodes
Super interesting idea; really poorly executed. Really great story line and ideas but it just misses.
If you read anything about this, you'll find that there are 8 episodes that are presented in random order. Each Netflix subscriber will have them delivered to them in a different order. I do think maybe the last episode is delivered as the last episode for everyone. Each episode is titled as a Kaleidoscope color. (Yellow, Green, Blue, Red, Orange etc)
It's really disappointing, it's a formula that's been done before, two criminal heist partners, something bad happens. One guy goes to jail, one guy stays free and builds a successful life, the story is based on the guy that goes to prison getting revenge. (Sorry of that's too much of a plot giveaway) One of the best to ever follow this formula was the movie "SNEAKERS".
I will recommend it, because it's not awful, but don't expect it to be something that sets your world on fire.

The Offer on Paramount is pretty ok if you’re a fan of the Godfather. Really good casting, the guy who plays Robert Evans is basically his clone or something. It’s almost creepy.

They obviously took some liberties with how the movie was made but it’s entertaining.

Finally wrapped up the HBO documentary on the Iran Hostage Crisis. Glad I watched it because I was so young when it happened, but it wasn't something I was eager to binge watch. Felt really terrible for Carter, but he shoulders some blame. The interviews they had with both hostages and hostage takers were terrific.
