Whelp, just finished S2 E6 of The Bear and, uh, I think I need some therapy. That was intense.
Episode 7 is your therapy (and Ritchie's). Seriously.

Episode 4 might have been one of my favorite episodes in all of TV. What a pleasant, lovely joy ride with Marcus.

I felt on edge, waiting for the other shoe to drop, and was so happy that it never did. Joyous. Mr. krista also thought the scenes with him and his "boss" in Copenhagen were very true to a real kitchen.

I really need to watch this show but I spend much of my spare time listening to playlists created by middle-aged dummies.

My family is working our way slowly through The Bear S2 because it's hard to coordinate three schedules. I thought the first few episodes of the season were veering into Ted Lasso territory but then episode 6 came along and slapped me upside the head with seven fishes. Amazing episode that topped the intensity of season 1.
My wife and I watched episode 6 last night. Every actor/actress in the episode should win an award. Holy **** that was tense and insane.

ETA: I knew he was going to throw the damn fork the whole time and it still surprised me when he did (plus what happened next).

Top 5 TV episode ever.
It really was spectacular. The following episode focusing on Ritchie was pretty much perfect as well.
Yep just watched that one last night and thought it rivaled six. Honestly it was probably a more pleasurable watch because there was just si much cringe in six. The actor playing Richie is so good.
Two important messages that Richie learned and we all can think about from the "Forks" episode: It is never to late to start over, no matter how messed up your life is, and "every second counts" does not just apply to the kitchen, but to life in general. Absolutely great episode, and I loved Richie's change in direction for the rest of the season.
If it only took 30 minutes.

Drops of God on Apple TV - 9/10

Best new show I've seen in a while. Really surprised more people aren't talking about this show. Has a Queen's Gambit feel to the whole production. The plot is centers around the wine world if that is your thing. Would highly recommend even if you don't think the wine world is your thing. Many probably said the same thing about chess!
I liked this a lot too. Made me want to drink a bunch of wine.

Have only the last episode of Better call Saul to go and I'm not sure I'm liking how the last few episodes "changed". The black and white look into the future.

Hope to watch it tonight. Tried The Bear but it didn't seem to capture me after first episode. May have to fire it up again and stick with it.

I think I needed 2-3 episodes of The Bear before I was roped in. Not done with Season 2 yet, but I'm ready to put The Bear on my Mount Rushmore of TV shows. Not sure I agree with the Emmy's who have The Bear's award nominees listed under Comedy Series. This ain't Seinfeld, Emmys....I needed counseling after E6 S2.

I really didn't like this part either. The last season of BCS was phenomenal with one banger after another, until the story ended and there were still three episodes left to go, and then it got weird and way too fan-servicey. IMO they should have just ended it with the Lalo storyline and then maybe do one -- one! -- wrap-up episode where Saul's long-term fate is finally revealed. They could have done that very easily without all the call-backs and unnecessary set up.

And to be clear, they really didn't need to do anything with post-BB Saul. This show could finished up with the Lalo's death and the immediate aftermath, and it didn't need to do anything else at all. By that point, we know how Jimmy McGill became Saul Goodman. We know or at least have a good sense of what happened with Kim. We don't need to know the rest of her life story. Just a solid explanation for why she's not in Breaking Bad is good enough. And we didn't need a final chapter on Saul anyway. "Saul lives out the rest of his days managing a Cinnabon in a dying mall in Omaha just as he feared he would" is a pitch perfect ending that needed no cherry on top. It's a great show and probably the greatest spin-off of all time (Star Trek Next Gen?), but they did fumble the ending a bit.

This is me as well, and I was thinking the same thing.

Funny thing is (kinda like @IvanKaramazov ) I did the same thing with Mad Men. I watched the first three of four episodes and it didn't really grab me. About two years later, I decided to give it a try again, and it ended up being a top three show of mine, all-time.

John Noble is sensational

Oh yeah, he's great. It took my until just a few weeks ago to realize that he was also Denathor, Steward of Gondor in Lord of the Rings. I was re-watching, did a double take, and said, "hey, that's Walter Bishop!" Not sure how I missed that until now.

Following some of the comments on here regarding Bear.
I found S1 to be outrageously over the top intense. I worked at a high-end restaurant after college and the chef screaming at everyone is not an exaggeration, followed by hugs and kisses to everyone when the shift is over. It's a really weird culture.

S2 E6 is as intense as everyone here said it would be. But again, a bit over the top on the intensity scale. I'm sure there are a lot of people that can relate to that family dynamic. It wasn't far off from the household I grew up in.

Completely agree on E7 being an all timer. And I also kept waiting for "the other shoe to drop". So glad it didn't.

Anything else like White Lotus out there? Just something with great characters and writing? It’s the best thing I’ve seen in a long time.

White Lotus 2 was the best miniseries of 2022 for me...terrific on several levels.

I was definitely sleeping on this one. Just got done with Season 1. Amazing show and heard it only gets better in Season 2.

Eh, It's a show I thought should be much better. I wanted it to be better. I kept watching and expected it to be better. It's just never seemed to get anywhere. It was fine but I wouldn't say it was great.

I just watched the Marcus in Copenhagen episode and had tears in my eyes the whole time. Directed by Ramy. Great episode.

The Quarterback docuseries on Netflix is such a puff piece. I still enjoyed it. It's ok or good, not great. I'd prefer an HBO style series on what's said on the field and behind the scenes of the entire team but got what I expected from a Peyton Manning EP narrative.

That security guard episode was great

Started Fringe last night. Never seen it before. Seems interesting thus far (after 3 episodes)

Fringe is good. I have a little beef with a few plot points later on, but I still enjoyed the show.

One of my faves, love Fringe, cool X-Files vibe and John Noble is sensational.

Found this a few months ago, big fan. Started a re-watch before i watch the final season to make sure I have everything(mostly) lined up.

@Gally Stick with it. Like many shows it really finds it's footing in Season 2. I've said it in this thread before, but it is among my favorite shows of all time, and probably top 3 network shows. Sticks the landing WAY better than Lost or X-Files, with similar vibes. Bishop is great, but so are the other actors. I cried real tears a few times in the last several episodes. Totally worth the ride. I'm jealous you get to watch it fresh.

Anyone seen Midnight Mass ? heard good things
I liked this a lot, and I'm considering re-watching it around Halloween. Like others have said, it's a slow burn. It spends as much time on character building and meaning-of-life dialogue as it does on the actual scary stuff. But it's basically "What if they adapted a Stephen King novel for the screen and it was actually really good?" It's definitely worth a shot, and if you don't like the pacing, oh well.

I don't understand where the love is coming from on this one. I thought it was laughably terrible.

Ha, I had this exact same thought yesterday when I was typing my post on the show. Almost included it. But, yeah, it's very much like a Stephen King novel.

I didn't think the build up was too slow but I frankly don't mind and/or notice slow build-ups providing the writing and acting is good, which it is here. I will say, IIRC (I think I watched this more than one year ago now), that once the "action" starts it really starts and doesn't stop.

After Drive to Survive, I'm not interested. DTS went after the real nitty gritty and the conflict, and everyone who didn't like the way they were portrayed told them to eff off. They screwed up by making their hero that Aussie donkey who lost his ride.

Tennis and golf ones, and now this. They need access, and you get access by making them look good. So....puff piece.

Oh snap! THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!!! I'll have to dig into this a bit, if I find it I'll let you know.
Season 4 finishes without needing to go to a season 5 so I don't think you will be disappointed. They seem to be somewhat separate stories kind of like season 3 to season 4.
Was intrigued with the missing season 5 mystery so read a bit last night and found a post on Reddit that said the show runs it course on Hulu this month and then season 5 will be freed up for Max/Prime

That’s interesting, season 4&5 were filmed back to back because they knew they weren’t getting renewed again but have totally independent stories. IIRC, TBS/TNT (don’t remember which it was on) sat on season 5 for a while and just burned the episodes off during one summer with like no advertising so that may be why it hasn’t left hulu yet compared to the others. I enjoyed every season and thought 5 was still going strong with a solid storyline and they could have continued the show. It wasn’t Shakespeare but it was solid entertainment and they always did ship battles and action tension really well. The series finale was well done too, although a bit rushed IMO.

A minor spoiler…

be prepared for a body count in the final season.

The Last Ship doesn't seem to be on Hulu. I searched for it and it wasn't found. I can find it on Prime (not available) and on Max it has the first 4 seasons only. No fifth shown. Maybe I am missing something.

yeah, i wish laughter was my response.

because the show did a lot of things well, i started out liking it, and then i was really liking it a lot, when i thought the story line progressively fell apart (don't mean "the twist", though that wasn't thrilling).
kept watching and by the end was very dissatisfied and actually angry at the internal inconsistencies and disrespect to the viewer.

but, most in here liked it, so cup of tea and all. full disclosure, never read a Stephen King novel, only watched The Shining and thought it was pretty boring.

According to a Reddit post i just found it left hulu only just like two weeks ago. Hopefully means it will be on HBO shortly with the other seasons.

This, I started watching it on Hulu w/adds then realized it was on Max w/o adds so switched over after about 5 episodes. This was a few months ago
