Anyone seen Midnight Mass ? heard good things
I liked this a lot, and I'm considering re-watching it around Halloween. Like others have said, it's a slow burn. It spends as much time on character building and meaning-of-life dialogue as it does on the actual scary stuff. But it's basically "What if they adapted a Stephen King novel for the screen and it was actually really good?" It's definitely worth a shot, and if you don't like the pacing, oh well.
I don't understand where the love is coming from on this one. I thought it was laughably terrible.
yeah, i wish laughter was my response.

because the show did a lot of things well, i started out liking it, and then i was really liking it a lot, when i thought the story line progressively fell apart (don't mean "the twist", though that wasn't thrilling).
kept watching and by the end was very dissatisfied and actually angry at the internal inconsistencies and disrespect to the viewer.

but, most in here liked it, so cup of tea and all. full disclosure, never read a Stephen King novel, only watched The Shining and thought it was pretty boring.
Respectfully, this seems telling as to movies/shows in this genre if you found one of the best ever from the genre to be "boring."

FWIW, I do understand to an extent some of your comments about the ending and I agree that I liked the first half of the series better than the second, but I certainly didn't hate the second half nor feel disrespected. But, yeah, it basically turns into a typical horror show/movie the last couple of episodes.

I'm glad you guys are tempering my expectations. The person who recommended did it after I was gushing about True Detective Season 1. I almost binged it the night of. "If you love the first season of True Detective, you gotta see Midnight Mass. It's amazing"

Wife and I started Deadloch last night on Prime and we are hooked after the first episode. It's an Australian Crime/Comedy. Great mix of humor and drama and great characters. It's rare one episode can hook me so fast. Hopefully it holds up.
Just finished this. Liked it a lot. Reminded me a bit of Broadchurch (which is one of my sleeper favorites) - but with humor

ETA: I did have to watch with CC, a little difficult to follow without it IMO

we also enjoyed Broadchurch. David Tennant and Olivia Colman are great.

it's not "top shows of all time" or anything, but just a solid show.

The obligatory Millah!

Agreed. Excellent show.

True Detective season 1 is waaay better. I mean, that's one of the best seasons of TV all-time.

Midnight Mass is an enjoyable binge-watch that you will be satisfied with then forget about. Nothing more, nothing less.

I really enjoyed the first season of The White Lotus but what's up with all the hoopla over the Jennifer Coolidge character? She won an Emmy for that? Easily the worst character on the show and she's back for Season 2 of an anthology?
You might enjoy her more in Season 2.
And if you don't, well, you'll still probably like season 2 and may even like it better.

ETA: I liked her better in season two, FWIW.

Looking forward to it. Still a shame about the gay Aussie guy. Would love to have seen him get transferred to another location. Dude was hilarious

we were randomly yelling Millah! for a long time there while watching this series

I am working my way thru The Witcher Season 2.....on Episode 4. Enjoying it. Not OMG...but solid.
I like it and have watched every episode but still don't quite understand how the kingdoms operate or who's plotting against who. Maybe I should be paying more attention or attempt to be relatively sober or something.

I'm through 2.2 and still love the show despite her. She's a little less over the top this season which is appreciated but still the Jar Jar Binks of White Lotus.

Haha, after eavesdropping on her husband's phone call I know the sh** is about to hit the fan with a potential character arc

I don't get the love for her character either. I mean, she's fine. But she's like the fourth or fifth most interesting character in each season.

She won an Emmy for her performance, not because viewers love the character she plays. Its similar to the Succession characters and all the accolades and awards those actors get. She embodies the main preachy theme of the entire show - the despicable obliviousness and complete lack of self-awareness these wealthy people all seem to share. It’s just like Kieran Culkin being nominated for playing Roman Roy imo. The character we hate the most is often down to fantastic award-worthy acting.

Yup, classic example of this will always be Carmela Soprano.

Please don't compare the Carmella character to this. Edie went deep in that role and deserves the accolades. All I see and hear with Coolidge is a drunk and washed up version of Stiffler's Mom

Should be noted I'm only a few episodes into Season 2.

Carmela was deeper for sure but it’s the same kind of character you love to hate.

My God. Just finished the Seven Fishes episode of The Bear. That was one of the greatest episodes of any show I've seen in a long time......but I don't know if I want to rewatch it.
Yeah I’m going to rewatch 4 and 7 for sure but I’m not certain about 6 even though it was the best-acted episode of the series and up there all time.

It's not your fault. The game and books are like that too. They are making it over complicated on purpose. Which is kinda dumb.
Only thing you need to know is Geralt is badass

It’s over complicated but we enjoyed the first half of season 3. Looking forward to the last half dropping soon.

Yeah not saying it's not good. It's well done

Just finished “”Jury Duty”. I thought that was very good, liked it much more as it went on and would def recommend for a fun watch.

The actors were all pretty amazing when you consider everything. I laughed out loud many times watching this. Spoiler…….

The gambling scene with the Korean guy killed me and the nerdy inventor kid constantly had me cracking up. James Marsden also nailed it.

They got very lucky picking the main guy, Ronald. What a good dude.

Still can't get myself to watch this show. But all the talk about "intensity", etc. has me wondering what all the hype is about.

Well deserved.

Watching the last episode on how they did it this should win some type of production award if there is something applicable. Much harder to pull off than a regular scripted show.

I was disappointed in the show. Seemed like it should have been so much better. I thought it was forced a bit and didn't think it hit the mark. It was fine but I expected it to be much better.

They both were awesome in that series.

I know it was mentioned earlier in the thread, but for those of you that enjoyed "Jury Duty", do yourselves a favor and try find "The Joe Schmo Show" - looks like it's only available for purchase on Prime and I can't find anywhere else it may be streaming, but some of you sleuths may find it somewhere.

I also saw a report that TBS is doing a new Joe Schmo season, though not sure how the Writers/SAG strike will affect this

Same. I started with high hopes and gave up after 3-4 episodes. I like the premise but the actual show just wasn't doing it for me.

Finished Season 2 last night. What a finale. So many twists and turns. One part Hitchcock, one part Larry David. Well done Mike White and co.

Now, I'm looking up trips to Sicily. That hotel is not cheap.

It was definitely like Hitchcock if the main character was "derpy" (Mike White's own word for Tanya).

I wrote about it at more length in the other film thread but I'm mostly enjoying Full Circle, Steven Soderbergh's new six-parter on HBO Max.

Like a lot of long-form TV, it's a bunch of characters connected by a crime. I'm not sold on the story yet but at least it looks marvelous.

I liked SS-GB, a 2015 BBC series that's streaming on FreeVee.

It's a murder mystery set in an alternate 1941 England shortly after a successful occupation by Germany. Sam Riley plays a Scotland Yard detective who's torn between the resistance and Wehrmacht and SS factions of Germans. The atmosphere is dark and foreboding which keeps the tension high through the five episodes.

Justified 2.0 kicks off tonight on FX/Hulu. Two episode premiere.

Anybody else have issues with the audio quality? I had to crank up the sound bar, but the voices still seemed overshadowed by the rest of the amibient noise in many scenes.

Then I flipped over to the baseball game and just about got blown out of the house.
