We just binged all of The Bear over the weekend. My wife LOVED it. I liked it ok but nowhere near as much as she did. It did spark some discussion about our completely opposite upbringing. She thought the Christmas episode was crazy. I vividly remembered Christmas get togethers just like that. It hit me a little bit too close to home.
Back in the day, my aunt and uncle hosted Christmas. There was more arguing and yelling than in that episode. People drank way too much, on several occasions physical altercations broke out, and twice the police and an ambulance had to be called in. My cousin got hit in the face with a broken bottle and needed something like 200 stiches. We're talking chaos to the third degree. Lots of threats and accusations, talk about whose wives and girlfriends cheated the most, and who in the family was the biggest eff up. Good times. Not.
As far as the show goes, the only character I really felt any attachment to was Sidney. I found the family members too loud and annoying. The other characters had good performances, but I didn't find myself all that interested or concerned about them. I also felt the transition from the old restaurant to the new restaurant to be a little annoying. I get it, they broke up the characters to provide more character development. But I didn't care as much about the characters and cared more about the actual restaurant (which was sitting there closed).
Overall, it's a good show, but not one that I feel was worthy of spending an entire weekend watching. I am sure I will watch additional seasons, and maybe I will get more into it with additional episodes.

No . . . just a bunch of hot headed, alcoholic, mostly uneducated family members (at least on that side of the family). Arguing was their thing. I remember arguments about who was cheating playing cards. Arguments about what the bets were on sporting events and who picked which team. Arguments about who bedded which random girl in high school first. And one of my personal favorites, arguments over who could drink the most (and then having a contest to prove it). It really was like The Bear show with non-stop cursing, screaming, and perpetual insanity. IIRC, at one point restraining orders had to be issued because my cousins could not be in the same room together. Loud and obnoxious only begins to scratch the surface.

My stepdad grew up in that house as the 7th child (all boys). I remember seeing his face when he was at my wife's family's house right before our wedding a Christmas time, with everyone gathered around the piano singing hymns - he was just gobsmacked that a family could have that kind of holiday party.

Class of '07 - Anyone watch this? It's an Australian show. Basic premise - 10 year high school reunion from an all girls school. Huge apocalyptic flood happens. And basically it's like Lord of the Flies after that. But in a dark comedy way. Good show. And it's just like 4-4.5 hours total (8 30ish min episodes). Good show.

The first two seasons of this show, and especially the first season for sure, move too slow for my tastes. Also, the whole thing with Chuck and his mental issue with electricity is kind of hard to take seriously IMO. But they sort of had to move slowly. Jimmy McGill is almost entirely a comic-relief character in Breaking Bad, so they had to start over from scratch to re-write his character into a more dramatic lead role. By the time they hit season 3, all that character-building from the first couple of seasons is really starting to pay dividends, and it just gets better and better from there. Enjoy.

I felt that way watching it origininally. But, when I went back and watched it a second time , I didn't find it as slow for some reason. The best part about those seasons was all the stuff with Mike. I thought he was amazing.

Rewatched The Shield (Hulu)
My opinions on this show have not changed.
Would love to have seen someone else play Vic Mackey. I thought Chiklis was ok but not particularly believable.
I'll never understand why CCH Pounder isn't as lauded as someone like Meryl Streep.
The characters of Dutch and Claudette were far and away my favorite part of the series.
The single season with Glenn Close was my favorite.
To this day, whenever I hear the word "Armenian" the next two words out of my mouth are always "Money Train" which is always received with odd looks.
The series final few episodes were wrapped satisfyingly.
My opinions on this show have not changed.

Has anyone here made it through Foundation? There is a lot to like here, but it's also a mess of exposition. I've got 2 episodes left of season 1 and would be hard pressed to move on to season 2 unless there is some improvement.
I thought season 1 was watchable. I’ll resubscribe to Apple TV to watch S2 at some point.

You're almost right where I am. I just finished season 1. It was good and well made I thought, but man it can be challenging to follow.
I can tell you that season 2 pretty quickly jumps ahead about 150 years. A lot of the main characters are the same, but it seems to be setting up a new conflict.

I seem to be working my way through the Kaniehtiio Horn Extended Universe - finished off all 11 seasons of Letterkenny (loved it for 10 seasons, the 11th was a noticeable step down but still worth watching) and the first season of Shoresy, now headed back to Reservation Dogs to catch up on season 3.

We're about halfway through this show and are finding it moves sloooow. We haven't watched the whole thing, but feels like they are stretching the story out over 10 episodes.
We decided to take a break from it and started S1 of Slow Horses. We're enjoying this much more than The Crowded Room.

Did anyone finish Atlanta? Absolutely one of my favorite shows in the first two seasons and then season 3 was so disjointed. A few episodes into season 4 and I don’t even care anymore. So disappointing.

We just finished Breaking Bad and jumped right into Better Call Saul…..already love it and we are 4 episodes into Season 1.
Good to hear it just gets better and better.

Yeah, that was me.
I did finish it, but S4 is basically out on it's own orbit from the previous seasons. Never knew what you were going to get from one episode to the next. I definitely recall needing to get 20min into an episode before i remember I was watching Atlanta

The Crowded Room waits until Episode 7 for the big "reveal". Probably couldn't fit it into a 2-3 hour movie, but 10 episodes is way too long.
I thought Steven Soderbergh's Full Circle was too stretched out as well.
Before the writers went on strike, did the editors go out?
I enjoy dumb action movies more than most but this was pretty awful IMO. Barely finished it.Watched Gal Godatnew Netflix flick Heart of Stone.
Sort of ripped off God's Eye from the Fast and Furious for the tech, but overall, an enjoyable action flick...
Of course, they left it open for a 2nd movie, which is fine since more of Gal is a good thing.

Yea but it just seemed to lose the plot to me. The side episodes were all interesting but had nothing to do with the main cast. After many years being off I guess I wanted more time with them. There were 4 episodes that had nothing to do with the main cast.
Seems like Glover wanted a different type of show than which this started as, which of course is his prerogative.

This is the episode of Black Mirror that I most wish had been edited down to about 2/3 of its actual run time. It is a great idea with a great cast, but it's also about as long as a feature film and the premise of the episode can't sustain that much content.

I actually thought that it was better suited to be a movie instead of a TV episode. Maybe add a little more time to it by developing the characters a little more and calling it a film. I like most of the Black Mirror episodes, but they run the gambit in terms of time (as short as 40 minutes to as long as 90 minutes) and in quality (I love some and have no interest in others). Overall, I think there are more hits than misses, but the bee episode grabbed me a lot more than others did.

My wife and I have 100%-ed AHS -- it's one of those shows that we can enjoy together because it doesn't demand to be taken too seriously and can be enjoyed as a campy good time. Even the "bad" seasons generally provide good production value and good art design, and if the story gets a little gonzo that's okay. But the new anthology season (American Horror Stories) was awful, and NYC was also abysmal. What really stood out to me with both of those was that it felt like they were both made on shoe-string budgets. I don't know if that was actually the case or not, but I don't think this show is on a good trajectory.
