Wow. How did I miss being a thing? With Travis Fimmel? Ragnar? Hell ya. I get HBO every other year or so to let things build up. This prolly will push me to sign up again. I have House of Dragon season 2. The penguin. This. Been kinda wanting to watch Westworld again. Great show

The Summit US episode 1 has arrived.
New reality TV show. 16 ordinary Americans attempt to summit a mountain in Aotearoa within 14 days for their share of $1mil. Yes, some 'elimination' twists along the 100 mile way - not everyone is going to make it. The group must win the $, not individuals.

Hosted by Spartacus, err Manu Bennett.

High hopes, but tempered on how good it could be. Scenery will be awesome.

And yes, I'll likely admire the camera team for keeping up every step / cliff hold of the way.
Finally ousted the villain of the season. The self-proclaimed Korean cockroach is done. They even called him out in confessionals multiple times on how bad / fake compassionate he speaks - and I don't think they know he's a surg nurse - where nursing compassion (fake or not) should come easy.

The group will be crossing the snow line in the next episode - traversing ice, snow, and glacier. Still surprised at a few elder/slow that remain. A bit tired of the crying dude, but well done overcoming the fear of heights crossing chasms, climbing rocksides, rickety bridge, rope bridge, etc.

Nowhere near as climatic as some other survival type shows. Beautiful scenery, but nearly everything is from the drone cameras.

Sadly, Westworld is no longer on max.

“Cross” (streaming on Prime)
8 episode series based on the James Patterson books on detective Alex Cross.

I half expected it to be a little hokie and cheesy.
It’s not. It’s good. E2 was really good. Hoping it continues to trend upward.

Stars Aldis Hodge who was equally great in the Showtime series “City on a Hill”.

Cobra Kai season 6 part 2 starts today.
Entertaining enough. All the cheese we come to expect from the show.

You'd figure the actors would learn how to kick/punch by the 6th season in. Some are still terrible even with stunts built for them.
On the flip side - you can immediately see who the 13 time world champion is (4 WCs at age 8 against teens twice their age! Triple Crown winner for forms, weapons, and sparring).

The Terror (Netflix): About an expedition in the 1840s to find the Northwest Passage, but with a twist. I don't intend to watch other seasons in the anthology, just the first season. I'm 9/10 through with it and it's very good in my opinion.

Enjoyed Dune Prophecy.

Only thing I didn’t like was that it’s apparently more than 10,000 years before Paul Atriedes and the movies but they still have the same technology, clothing style, and building styles? I get that AI is banned so that will stunt some tech growth but c’mon, humans historically improve in these areas over hundreds of years let alone thousands.

The Paul era styles are just retreads. The past coming back again. Nothing more human than unimaginative recycling.

And she can't act either. I have no idea why they put her in that spot. She is really quite bad.

Johnny going to ask the pilot to just follow a straight line so they can get home faster. :lmao:

Through the recent 5 episodes of Lioness on Paramount. Such a wonderful show. Cast. Story. Just a great watch. Seriously, so good.

Landman. One of my most anticipated upcoming shows. Billy Bob and Demi? Uh heck ya.
So I missed the premiere - cool watched it set it to record on Showtime as its playing.

I have episodes 3&4 recorded. 5 tonight

I go ondemand (yes still have cable) - I can watch episode 1, 3, 4 with my showtime subscription but can only watch episode 2 on paramount + which I don't have

I watched all of Season 1 on showtime when the whole merger happened.

IT MAKES NO SENSE.......... YELLS AT CLOUD

Wife and I just finished 1883. We really dug it.
One of my absolute favorites.
I thought it was by far the best of the Yellowstone series of stories. So well done.
Agreed, from the beginning to the end was just a great arc. Probably could have been one or two more episodes but that is a minor nit. Was just thinking about the ending this weekend for some reason, specifically Sam Elliot's.
The only disappointing part was that nobody died of dysentery.
Kinda tough to have that portrayed effectively on screen I would think. Cut to Jeb streaming liquid...cut to Jeb streaming liquid...cut to Jeb streaming liquid...cut to Jeb streaming liquid...cut to Jeb streaming liquid...cut to Jeb streaming liquid...cut to Jeb being buried.

You did have snake bite episode that I wasn't expecting but then thought, I bet that happened a lot more often than advertised in the old West.

Ancient Apocalypse: The Americas (season 2) - 7/10

Season two extends to the Americas (mostly central and south) after season one spent most of its time in the eastern hemisphere. Season two is much of the same as season one where we get to see a lot of really interesting historical sites that are then used as plot devices to permit the series' presenter, Graham Hancock, to make some outlandish claims which are compromised mostly of phrases such as "what if...?" "suppose that..." "I believe..." "this suggests..." etc. designed to support his hypothesis that, if I understand it correctly (he continues to really just dance around it again this season), there was some super advanced civilization that may or may not have been aliens that were able to cross the globe with ease around the time of the Ice Age and provided many of the then human tribes if you will with advanced technology and a mathematical appreciated for astronomy that Norton opines humans could not have been capable of around that time. He then, albeit clumsily and usually through conversations with actual local scientists who are very careful with their words but don't actually discredit Hancock so he takes the illogical leap that their lack of discrediting him means they support him, compares certain structures and world wonders across the globe to demonstrate that these creations (e.g. megaliths, structures designed to align with solstices and equinoxes) are too similar for civilizations that never encountered one another and therefore there must be some

Again, season two continues to ride the wave of Joe Rogan type leaps and nonsense with complete disregard for the scientific method but, as Hancock accomplished with season one, the show is oddly entertaining and the visuals are pretty awesome with the added bonus of Keanu Reeves doing Keanu Reeves things. I'd suggest treating the show like a National Enquirer level of indulgence and, before binge-watching, ingesting whatever the rights mgs of edibles are for you to carelessly enjoy a show like this one.

Maybe I misremember but I don't think Hancock leans too heavily on aliens, rather he pushes the advanced civilization that was wiped by some catastrophe (primarily meteors hitting the Earth) and remnants of said civilization bouncing about the globe assisting the remnants of humanity trying to rebuild civilization.

Gotta admit, there is some stuff that rubs up against the typical narrative. I'll preface this with, all I know about archeology I learned from Rogan so I'm biased but I would like to know more about the pyramids & sphinx because I think there are secrets being withheld. I would like to know more about Gobekli Tepe and I would like to know more about the Amazon and the lost cities they are uncovering via lidar mapping. All these things contradict commonly held archeological mantra. Why not ask why?

You could be right as to the bold as he never really lays it all out but dances around it. I interpret his theory to include aliens (or at least some sort of superhumans) because of the continuing focus on the heavens, stars, and god-like figure which are the basis for a lot of the lore and myths he focuses on. But, yeah it could also just be some super awesome group of humans that impacted other less-advanced groups of humans yet somehow the history of these more advanced humans didn't get properly recorded.

Also, I clearly have no problem with him asking why as I've recommended the show. I don't think asking why is a bad thing at all and his presentation is entertaining. He just "asks why" without following the scientific method so I think it's fair to recommend somebody watch the show from a more entertainment and wonder perspective than an actual academic one.

ETA: In other words, I'm trying my best to be a fair critic here.

Kudos for him lasting a minute with the emotional support animal.

Asking why is fine but most of the issues with archeology in recent decades has been the calculation of timeframes and timelines. Advances in technology and recent discoveries have allowed the archeological community to adjust many of the timelines regarding early human migration and civilization. We don’t need unsupported theories to change, just better processes and techniques, which have shaken the old institutional standards. Happens in every science, archaeology just happens to be a relatively new science (it was considered part of the arts until the last decade).

Lets do some math.
Let's say you have a nostop flight from Barcelona to LAX

That flight is ~ 13 hours. Let's add the in the 2 hours before arrival so we are talking 15 hours best case not including the tail end

They leave - right away after the match so for arguments sake they leave 8 pm Barcelona time which is 11 am.

So they arrive 3-4pm LA time. Go to hospital. Pickup Kenny

GO BACK to the airport and jump on a flight.

HOW DO THEY END UP MAKING IT BACK FOR THE TOURNAMENT?#$?@!#?!

Lets say they find a flight that leaves 9 pm LAX time its 6am in Barcelona

They dont land until 6 pm

Hancock's easy out is the majority of it was destroyed in the cataclysm. And in his defense, for anything to last 11,000-12,000, it has to be pretty stout. The burying of Gobekli Tepe kind of points to some fore knowledge so they attempted to preserve the site.

I get this and it bugs me too. Anyone can sit there and throw why why why at something, kinda like a 2 year just learning about the world but...there does seem to be an "old school" group that is firmly set on, "this is the way it always was and by god, it is the way it will always be." That frustrates me when there is clearly stuff out there that is just coming to light now but the establishment won't even consider it because it throws off the accepted narrative.

Finished this over the weekend. It was good. Not great. The final wrapped up with a weird secondary storyline.
There is a S2 planned. S1 wasn't awful. I would watch S2.

I loved Ancient Apocalypse Season 2, but that type of stuff is right up my alley anyway. Keanu Reeves in it was a bit weird and awkward though.

They cut at least 4 hours off the route each way by going straight instead of all curvy.
