Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (47 Viewers)

Also, I can't read about Lost and not think of how far things have come... I mailed a VHS tape with the Lost premiere to Capella (I think - starting to forget things) because there was no such thing as streaming and if you missed the premiere of a show with a throughline, you were out until the first season DVD would come out the following summer. Dark ages stuff.
That's how I watched Band of Brothers when it first came out. My buddy had HBO, I didn't. He watched it and said he thought I'd like it so he would record it Sunday night and give me the tape on Monday.

Crazy coincedence, but wifey & I started a LOST re-watch last weekend as well. It's one of her favorite shows of all-time, while I may have watched 1/2 the episodes when it originally aired. I'm enjoying so far, especially since there are no commercials and thus the ~ 40 minute episodes are my sweet spot.

While the story is great, the dialogue and cheese levels are suspect IMO. Almost 80s soap opera-ish level at times.

Last year, Floppinha navigated an almost every weekend run of Bar/Bar Mitzvahs here in NYC (a whole other story). All of them have the same series of things, including a video of the kid/memories and best wishes from people that can't be there.

The last one she went to, shes sitting there totally over all of it by the time the videos come on. Little Kimmy playing the violin, grandpa Morris saying how proud he is of her... Blah blah blah. Then some "old" dude comes on telling jokes, saying nice memories about the kid and her mom... And floppinha is stopped in her tracks- who is this? He's so familiar looking. It was Matt Fox- college classmate and friend of the mom (a year ahead of me too, coincidentally). Floppinha lost her **** best bat mitzvah EVAH

Started The Penguin. I'm not a superhero movie/show fan but this was really good so far. Even my wife liked it. Cool to recognize some of my old neighborhood in Queens too in a few scenes.
To me, it was one of the best shows I’ve seen in the last couple years. I was sad that it was a one off.
Oh, didn't know it was. Is that a reveal of some kind....don't answer.
No. It was always a one season series. It doesn’t end per se, it leads into the next Batman movies.

The group will be crossing the snow line in the next episode - traversing ice, snow, and glacier.
The Summit
The group is -still- picking off people that can lead/keep pace with the team because it's 'good for their game.'

It's not good if they don't get to the top. I guess I don't get what some of their games are. Mountain Keeper made them eliminate 1 before they start. The leader/strongest Dusty (and his $124k) is now gone by the person (Theron) that touched the drop bag first (single vote). 6 remain. 2 are competent (Nick / BeckyLee). 1 semi-competent (Punkin). 2 scared (Theron / Jeannie). 1 scared/slow/injured (Amy).

Yet they keep the slowest and scared ones. Amy has injured toes and immediately stumbles and starts to slow them down yet again. Multiple falls as they Ice pick their way up a sheer glacier.

Traverse via army crawl through an ice cave. Hike the ridge. Fun times.

New checkpoint... time to vote someone off and gain their share of the money. Finally got Amy. All she could do at their campfire was say that she kept making checkpoints because she looked up to everyone else (not did it herself). Easy vote. 5 remain. $746k

The more they game play instead of concentrate on finishing, the more I want them to fail to get there. They only get the money if they -all- make it (of those that remain). But I'm sure they get there as it's made to be able to, but still...

Safety Officer evacuates them via helicopter as a storm rolls in.

... 2 days remain to get there. 1 checkpoint and 1 summit to go.

Wife and I just finished 1883. We really dug it.
Was Very disappointed they jumped from 1883 to 1923.
Would have loved a few more seasons to watch the beginning. :kicksrock:
I hated the lead actress in 1923 her stupid breathy whispers and how she’d grunt and shriek when in trouble
I haven't seen 1923 yet. But just saw that in December regular Paramount will be showing it so will finally get to watch it.
It is also better than Yellowstone. But Yellowstone is basically a soap opera.

Other then I don't remember characters in General Hospital going to the train station. Ha ha

The result of that 1st elimination in the episode was the end for me. I stopped watching at that point and don't plan to watch the remainder. I don't understand the logic of the game play or why the slow and weak are kept around.

Looks like I'm going to have to sign up for Peacock today. It appears to be a garbage subscription for bored housewives but since I'll have a month of it, is there anything worth checking out?

I tried it too, but quit as soon as he went to a restaurant with the chick with short hair and she was eating/drinking like a maniac. It's just not for me. None of this stuff is re: Batman and its ilk.

I noticed her eating like that but didn't give it much thought. Is that a hint to something? idk I've seen some animated Batman and I assume she's Poison Ivy?

Batman, thanks to Christopher Nolan, is one of the few characters I like. And Spiderman but just the origin story. I mostly just like origin stories and not all the crazy action/fights. I think the last superhero movie I watched the whole thing of was the first Iron Man.

I'm in an audio drama where I play Arnold Flass...fun role!...I come in at the 11 minute mark.

Finished Mad Men. Amazing show that I thought ended great. The last season is my favorite. It's hard for me to rank this series with others. It's not very bingeable as you're rarely left on the edge of your seat at the end of an episode, but it might be unmatched in terms of writing, character development, and atmosphere.

Moving on to a rewatch of the X Files. Have not watched any of this since it first aired so I'm excited. I will probably only watch up until Mulder leaves or the end of the alien arc. We'll see.
I just finished my first watch of Mad Men yesterday. Thought the ending for Don, Roger and Joan was fine, but disappointed with the ending Peggy and Pete got. Just felt like they wanted to wrap everything up neatly.

I've been baffled by the strategy and it was pathetic how 10 minutes after the decision was made, Therron started questioning it. So dumb.
They play the game like it's Survivor.
But did they say only 3 people will split the money? That might at least explain it but it's not something I heard until this episode.

Not mentioned in the rules, so I assume they did the 'checkpoints x1 + whatever the mountain keeper takes out' estimate. 2-4. They likely started larger until they saw the first guy chopped off the bridge without notice. Or losing the guy that may have had a heart issue on day 1.

Gotta assume that it's close to other reality shows of a final 3, maybe 2. Could even be a surprise at the end of voting 1 off even though they made it all the way. That would be quite the cruel way of losing a third of the pot.

$250k+ per person minimum (after losing a portion of the prize)? Contestants wouldn't put themselves through the rigors for less. They are 'average Americans' traveling 100 miles on foot. Uphill both ways in 10 feet of snow... yadda yadda yadda.

I finished Season 1 of The Anonymous (USA/Peacock), a social strategy game from the same production company that does the US and UK versions of The Traitors.

The premise is interesting. People live together (like they do on Big Brother) and build relationships. Then they go into a lair with individual rooms, adopt handles, and engage in an anonymous chat, where they talk sh!t about each other and lobby for people to be booted. Then each player (only their handle is revealed) votes to put someone up for elimination. Then they leave the lair to chat IRL and strategize. Each player then returns to the lair to take a test to try to match each handle with the person behind it. Whoever was most successful at hiding their real identity becomes The Anonymous and decides which of the nominated players goes home. Every so often the handles are refreshed so that you’ve never “figured it out” for good.

There are challenges to build the prize pot, and some of them also enable one or more players to win safety from being put up for elimination.

I liked the deception that comes with having to act differently online vs IRL, the visuals (it was shot in a gorgeous region of Spain on a property with wild architecture) and the cast, which included a Big Brother winner, the daughter of a two-time Survivor winner and Andy King from the infamous Fyre Festival fiasco.

I did not like how much screen time they gave to a Yankee Swap-style game that was used in many episodes to determine safety and played a huge role in the finale. While it served a purpose to showcase how good the players were at deception, it made for boring TV.

Would watch again, but I might fast forward through the Yankee Swap stuff.

Landman, gnarly first 2 episodes
In a good way or bad way?
I watched them and would also like to know what you mean by this.

Show seems ok. Not sure where it's headed.

And why is it so hard for the daughter to put pants on?
end of episode 1 and start of 2 were pretty graphic, Billy Bob was throwing some good zingers nonstop and the daughter and ex-wife need to learn to wear clothes... It just seemed very over the top anti woke, which I'm fine with but Sheridan seems to want to be over the top with this series.
