Started watching Ballard on Prime. Interesting enough. Similar to Bosch (and has Bosch cameos throughout) but not quite as good. Haven't finished the first season yet (I think I have three episodes left) but it's entertaining with a good enough story so far to keep going.

oh boy... I've been side-eyeing this one. but I thought Bosch was really weak, so if this isn't up to that low bar it sounds like I'll skip this one.

Its a crime procedural. I really liked Bosch so to each their own. What was weak about Bosch to you? (and I am not talking about that weak Bosch Legacy crap).

I'm binging Legacy right now. S3 is starting to get a little repetitive and I do skip a lot of the daughter scenes, but by and large I think it's at the same level quality wise as the main series entries.

The daughter was just so unbelievable as a cop that it really took away from the story for me. I thought it would have been decent if not for her. She was just too unbelievable in that role.

Was there a mountain lion or other big game involved?

Not that I remember....must be a joke in here somewhere that I am missing.

Just the first season. Thought it was good but kind of a one trick pony. Started the 2nd season and it was just the same thing over again. Got pretty repetitive.

Loved 24. Best watched non-streaming. waiting a week for the next episode was intense.

2 episodes in.
Suspicious death in a national park. Eric Bana, deals with personal demons while leading the investigation. Familiar formula but it's done well enough with some decent scenery.
I'm sticking with it.

I made it 10 minutes into episode 2 and pulled the plug.

SPOILER ALERT: Bana telling the rookie ranger that the park is 100,000 acres (or however large it was) and “good luck searching for clues from people entering the park at the five major highway entrances” seemed warranted. He then proceeds to ride a horse around and in a matter of hours he finds, all in differing locations, the victim’s shoes, the victim’s pill bottle, markings made by the victim in a cabin, and a bullet ricochet mark on a rock? Nope. Silly. Peace out for me.

I figured it was better during the 1st run based on the uniqueness at the time. Binging it was fine for a season but the second season became boring to some degree as it was the same thing over and over.

The Waterfront was good. It’s kind of like Ozark meets that Outer Banks show (though not quite Ozark level good). Definitely solid enough to binge the whole season and Topher Grace was great in it.

She walked, ran, and moved like a mannequin. Her acting, however, did not live up to that standard.

I really enjoyed Bosch and I really wanted to enjoy Legacy, but after 4 or 5 false starts, I realized life is too short to force yourself to watch shows that you hope you like but you just don't. I am sure that his daughter is a really sweet person in real life, but making her a cop was a really bad choice.

The Billy Joel Doc "And So It Goes" on HBO Max is great! It's the kind of documentary that if I didn't have HBO, I would be willing to pay for a month's subscription just to see it.
Episode 1 released on July 18.
Episode 2 releases on July 25.

Just got through Episode 1. I thought it was pretty good. Wish there was more behind the scenes stuff and less storytelling. Should be noted, he was before my time and far from one of my favorites - I actually thought he was really corny (mid 80s MTV kid, The Longest Time was the only song/video I knew lol). Going back through his catalog over the years, he's a rock star for sure with some music I've grown to appreciate and a come up I respect

It gets better. Episode 7 is the best of the season.

7 is the wedding episode? I thought the “everyone under the table” was dumb and the Natalie / Francie feud & makeup was way over the top, as is most of the Bear’s argument scenes.

I do think season 4 got better with episodes 8 thru 10 though, finally moving the plot along.

Overall the show is just way too pretentious and moves at a snail’s pace.

Thanks for all of the recommendations for "The Pitt" I really enjoyed it.

Got a little preachy every now and then, but those spots were VERY infrequent and took up very little time.

Kept a great pace with minimal melodrama - and that's a very hard thing to do with this type of show. Fully recommend.

Thanks for posting this. On the basis of your post, I decided to start this one on my treadmill walk this morning. Holy ****, was that first episode packed. I felt like I'd watched a long movie (in a good way) and realized it had only been 42 minutes. Phenomenal acting, too.

I'm a little worried that it might end unsatisfyingly since I read up and saw it wasn't renewed for a third season, but I'm in for now anyway.

Heads up that the new season of The Challenge has started - "Vets and New Threats." I did wonder if I should post in the Challenge thread instead of here, but there's a cross-pollination with the Survivor thread as well. Both Dee (Survivor 45 winner) and Sydney (Survivor 41 also-ran) are on there as "new threats" (rookies) and are being set up as villains on the show. The first episode was a challenge to determine pairings - there was a hike up a mountain and down, and the finish determined order of people choosing their partners, as this season will involve two-person teams of one rookie and one veteran, opposite genders.

Dee looks to be part of a power couple as 7-time champion Johnny Bananas chose her. He's also very much a target so it could be a disadvantage for her. Sydney chose Leroy as her partner - well-liked and strong but has never won in a squillion tries.

Survivor-wise, Season 33's Michaela is also on here, but she's a Challenge veteran now is it's her third appearance. She's great in challenges but doesn't seem ever to have formed any good alliances, so I don't see her doing well. Would love to be wrong.

I don't think Survivor fans like @Pip's Invitation or @Corporation watch this, but I tag them anyway. I think @Runkle could be in, though!

I have never watched the MTV Challenge. I did watch both seasons of The Challenge USA on CBS because they had a ton of Survivor alums.

If you thought that Survivor needs to up the physicality like the AU version, the Challenge is the most physical of them all. Be advised the returning players have too much of an advantage in the social aspect with pre-existing alliances.

I'd recommend The Challenge World Championship S1 and the Challenge Battle of the Eras S40 if you would like to get hooked.

Anybody watching "The Hunting Wives"? My wife wanted us to start it last night. We are about 3/4s through the first episode. She really likes it but I'm on the fence so she's asked me whether she wants me to wait for her or whether she can just plow ahead on her own. So, is this show worth the watch?

If it helps, in the Woz household generally my wife and I find a show to watch together when the kids go to bed and neither of us are supposed to watch without the other. However, we both usually have some show that we are watching on our respective own going on simultaneously. For example, I'm currently watching season three of Foundation when I have individual downtime (can't fall asleep, am at the gym on some cardio machine, etc). and I think she's watching Downton Abbey or something - shows we know the other won't want to watch). So, if I declare no interest, she will watch The Hunting Wives without me but if I declare interest she will wait and will then be annoyed if I'm not interested during the watch.

Started this last week and am just getting into Ep. 2. I grew up in the 80's so was well aware of him just never was my thing, more into hair metal. One thing I've taken away though is just the shear volume of 1. music and 2. hits he's put out. Like Pink said, doesn't matter where you are, if Piano Man comes on you're singing it for the next 5 minutes. Have developed a new found appreciation for his catalogue.

Overall I'd say the doc is well put together, not sure what else you would want. I thought the fathers back story was pretty fascinating.

Newest episode of Strange New Worlds was awesome. Hilarious winks and nods at the behind the scenes of the original Star Trek series.

I never watched Community when it originally aired so been slowly binging it (because new sitcoms are few and far between these days and sometimes I just want to laugh and most new streaming content is drama.) Some episodes are hilarious and others are total clunkers. Maybe the clunky ones I would have enjoyed more when it originally aired. There are definitely some similarities to Bill Lawrence type shows (Scrubs, Spin City, Cougar Town) but Community leans way, way more into the silly side and doesn't counter-balance with the drama as well as Lawrence shows can.

Yeah, Malin Akerman gets naked in her first scene for no necessary reason at all (like my wife laughed at loud at her removing her dress when it wasn't necessary). I think that was Akerman's way of showing everybody she's still "got it."

There's then a ton of sexual innuendo throughout the episode.

ETA: This reminds me of that Nicole Kidman series from earlier this year. Lots of sex stuff from notable aging actors and semblance of a cool plot, but it verges on the ridiculous and isn't the greatest of watches.

Caught up on Nautilus season 1 with two more episodes to drop. Good show done very well and the acting is top notch. It's a retelling of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues and more like a prequel as it gives you Nemo's backstory. It's creative with lots of action and some darker more intense moments and a few creepy sea critters, even a giant octopus sighting. Set in the 1850's around the British East India Company and their quest to get their stolen property back and rid themselves of the dreaded Nemo once and for all. Really liking the cast of characters on all sides. Even though many are tropes they're still given enough space to fill out and breathe. On some sub-subscription to Prime that I got on a free trial, worth the watch.

Watched the first 2.5 episodes of Twisted Metal season 2. I liked the first season but season 2 just hasn't been doing it for me. Also watched the first episode of Chief of War and didn't really like that either. It feels very Hollywoodized. I've tried to look up the real history and I don't really think that's what happened either but it was a bit confusing to me. I also like The Rock better than Jason Momoa so I wish he had done it instead. If I had apple+ I'd probably finish watching the whole thing to see where it goes. Really hig rankings on IMDB and RT but a much more reasonable 72 on meta critic.

I had watched about half the seasons during its original run. Forgot how much of a monster of the week the first season was.

Darkness: Those Who Kill
all 4 seasons are on Prime Video now

I watched the first 2 seasons a couple years ago and liked it a good bit. Now that I've had time to forget it I've started it from the beginning. And wow, is the 1st season good -- very dark and creepy police drama lasting the whole season, enough plot to keep things moving along in unexpected directions, some absolutely evil characters and some moments that make you cringe, some great looking actresses.
Highly recommend.

We toughed it out. Crazy silly plot twists. Some very bad acting at times. And the boobs, etc do not make up for it. I would pass.
