Student Arrested For Writing About Killing a Dinosaur (1 Viewer)

The arrest was because the kid felt he was being harrassed and misbehaved
I'm pretty sure he was actually charged with something besides that.
No, I think the official charge was "2nd degree misbehavin", but his council is confident they argue it down to "horseplay".
You know what? I didn't read jon's post carefully enough before responding. I read it as "the kid felt he was being harassed and [whatever]ed" -- figuring that the second verb in "harassed and misbehaved," like the first, was in the passive voice, describing what was done to the kid rather than what he did. I read it as if it said "harassed and tormented" or "harassed and intimidated" or some such.

What jon actually wrote is not as silly as my initial misreading of it, and so my attempt to poke fun at it is not as justified. :kicksrock:

This is why you are such a well respected poster.

Apparently it was for disorderly conduct for disrupting school, which is kind of ironic since the police search probably was more disruptive than his behavior.

My misreading rate is much higher than yours. :pickle:

When it comes to this type of stuff (schools and guns), I'd rather the authorities error on the side of caution and look into things.

Investigators say the teacher contacted school officials after seeing the message containing the words "gun" and "take care of business," and police were then notified on Tuesday.

Summerville police officials say Stone's book bag and locker were searched on Tuesday, and a gun was not found. According to police, when Stone was asked by school officials about the comment written on the assignment, he became "very irate" and said it was a joke.

A Summerville Police Department report states that Stone continued to be disruptive and was placed in handcuffs, and was told that he was being detained for disturbing schools.

The lawyer has a different version of why he was arrested.

A lawyer representing Alex said the teen's arrest over a creative writing assignment on Tuesday was "completely absurd," his attorney said.

Attorney David Aylor, who is representing 16-year-old Alex Stone, said his client's arrest over a creative writing assignment on Tuesday was "completely absurd," and is seeking to appeal the suspension and "proceed with the legal issues of [stone's] arrest."

“This is a perfect example of ‘political correctness' that has exceeded the boundaries of common sense," Aylor said in a statement released on Thursday

Pretty easy to see which version is dominating the headlines. Is the "defense fund" set up yet? A lot of people will donate money to anything that sounds like infringing gun rights.

You don't know what his behavior was. How can you say that?
