Summerpalooza IV - Combined Music/Fantasy Draft - Braxton Un-Breaks My Heart (2 Viewers)

Man are they getting touchy if one of the last 3 posts got you dinged in there.  Weird site and mods sometimes.
Sometimes the offending posts get deleted. Dunno if that was the case here, as I was fortunate to be too busy with work to check the Eagles thread when RA was going all Rambo in there.

:bag:

Keep forgetting about that.   Just had that happen to a bit of back and forth I had with somebody recently too.

Added: Deshaun Watson

Dropped: Blake Jarwin

Song: The Hates - City On Ice

The Hates were Houston's biggest punk band at the turn of the decade. This is from a 1979 compilation, and I'm guessing it came out in '78. They're actually pretty good, and have lasted until today. Nice addition to the list, IMO.

Added

Easop Winston Jr. - WR -

Saints

Paul Desmond - Samba De Orpheu

Easop Winston Jr. isn't a deep sleeper that you missed on your list.  I'm making a sentimental pre-season transaction to pick up the son of a family friend.

The Winston family were parishioners of the Baptist church where Mrs. Eephus' step-father preached.  Teenage Easop Sr. was a fixture at holiday get togethers at my in-laws.  He was a good kid who was always kind to @ditkaburgers and her little brother. There's a picture in Grammy and Papa's living room from when he played QB for Lincoln High in SF.  I heard he had a kid when he was playing JuCo ball and moved to the East Bay.  I haven't seen him since but if I ever run into him at a wedding or funeral I can tell him I had Easop Jr. on my fantasy team.

Easop Jr. is trying to make the Saints as a WR/return specialist. The roster projections I've seen show him on the bubble. I'll drop him from my team as soon as somebody else catches my eye but it can't be a jinx if you call it in advance.

Alto sax legend Paul Desmond (1924-1977) was born in SF and graduated from old Poly High, the alma mater of George Siefert.  Desmond has the most wonderful breathy tone on the sax.

Waived by the Saints today although he's a candidate for the practice squad.

Dedicated to @Pitchfork

Since you've been gone
I shut my eyes and I fantasize
That you're here with me
Will you ever return

I won't be you satisfied
'Til you're by my side
Don't wait any longer
Why don't you come back

Please hurry, why don't you come back
Come back and stay for good this time
Come back and stay for good this time

This one's for Damien Harris

You make me dizzy running circles in my head
One of these days I'll chase you down
Well, look who's going crazy now
We're face to face my friend
Better get out
Better get out

Well let me tell you of the story
Of a man named Charlie
On a tragic and fateful day
He put ten cents in his pocket
Kissed his wife and family
Went to ride on the MTA

Well did he ever return?
No he never returned
And his fate is still unlearned (what a pity)
He may ride forever
'Neath the streets of Boston
He's the man, who never returned

Charlie handed in his dime
At the Kendall Square station
And he changed for Jamaica Plain
When he got there the conductor told him one more nickel
Charlie couldn't get off of that train!

Given this weeks events, An ode to the New York Mets

Gone now are the old times
Forgotten, time to hold on the railing
The Rubik's Cube isn't solving for us
Old friends, long forgotten
They all wait at the bottom of
The ocean now has swallowed

The only thing that's left is us
So pardon the silence that you're hearing
Is turnin' into a deafening
Painful, shameful roar

Rate my drunk draft 10 team Yahoo Public Prize League Team.

Dak, Trey Lance

Saquon, Mike Davis, Javonte Williams, Michael Carter, Jamaal Williams

Tyreek, AJ Brown, Chase, Cooks, Corey Davis

Waller

-----

Vets get me through until the rookies kick in and carry me to championship, right :oldunsure:

I didn't love the #9 draft slot tbh. The top 9 picks were the top 9 on my board, almost in order (my first pick was Hill, Saquon 12 overall, AJB 29, Waller 32. I obviously  Waller, the best RB left at that 3/4 turn were Edwards, Jacobs, Swift...)

Putting on Ace Ventura. Once upon a time the funniest thing ever. I'm sure it's aged well, right?
Sorry, dude. I went to bet at like 8:30 PST. Up at 5:30, with bells on. I would have had to have said "no," dissuaded you from this, and asked for more italicized lyrics, but here we are, you having watched Ace Ventura, me having woken up at ungodly hours.

It wasn't great.

Rodgers, Gesicki and McKissic are the members of my team in this league that I also ended up getting in my PPR auction last night. Plus I had A. Robinson as a keeper.

No taste in film.  ;)

I am immature though - I still love the scene in 2 with the rhino.    Haven't seen either in a long time though.

It's a weird mix between parts that remain absolutely hilarious and parts that haven't aged well.
I'm sure.   As I thought about it more, I am pretty sure I watched most of "those" types of movies with the oldest 5-6 years ago - Adam Sandler movies, Ace Venturas, etc.    I don't remember a ton besides having that feeling - a couple great laughs, but overall nothing either of us wanted in our rotation of movies.

Yahoo must have heard about the great practices my squad have put together this week. It's now 131-130 in my favour.  :football:
I wasn't going to respond to this, but when I clicked "IDP" from the drop-down menu at the top of the page, it led me here. Huh.

The greatest drop-down reference ever, and you'll probably agree. Neighbour.

Dexter Gordon - The Panther

Going with the matchup vs the Jets offense.

I'd wanted to draft Dexter Gordon (1923-1990)  to go with a Los Angeles pick but the opportunity didn't present itself. This track from 1970 features Gordon on tenor sax leading a quartet on an original Blues. Gordon spent most of the 60s and 70s living in Europe but he returned to New York to record this session for the Prestige label.

Gordon had a nice late-career revival after returning to the US including an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in Round Midnight.  It's one of the greatest movies about Jazz ever made but the only available current streaming option is this low resolution version on Vimeo.

I may change my team name a couple of more times before kickoff

Great Teams Cover.  Best magic football team, least desirable cover play-list.  :kicksrock:

OTB's Glue Crew here ... but i'm pretty sure you figgered that one out by now 😁

I’m Sirens of Titans

ahhh, ok - i was wondering who my week one opponent was - looks like you'll be favored by roughly seven or so ... gotta see if my local is taking action on this 🤔

I'm the Froghoppers.  I can't even remember what the whole team name was supposed to be.  It didn't fit on the form, so that's what it ended up being.  It's kind of random, so I like it.

I'm still jealous of your Hurts/Fields QB combo. That was my goal to get in every fantasy league this year and while I got Fields a lot, Hurts always escaped me. Including in my main league where I was one pick away and the moron who took Dak 2 rounds earlier also took Hurts. That MFer.

I’m a .03 point underdog - bet the house and take the fractional point.

the Chark/Viska showdown will decide that battle ... my money's on the latter, so i may have to lay it 🤔

i've done one money draft thus far, and it fell perfectly - snagged Hurts in the 7th, Fields in the 13th (12 team ppr, 16 roster slots).

Tennyhillz went the pick prior, and Stafford was the only one left on the board i considered over Hertz - i had to reach to snag him, even tho i believe in McVay/Staff having a great year out there.

Added Le'veon Bell - RB - FA

Miles Davis Quintet - If I Were a Bell

The Justice Hill era was a tragedy in one act. Le'veon doesn't have a job but he has a very musical name.

If I Were a Bell is a swinging number from Guys and Dolls that became a Jazz standard after Miles recorded this version in 1956  with his first Quintet.  I've listened to about a half dozen other versions today but none surpass the genuine article.
