Summerpalooza V -- Playoffs Over -- Eephus Is Now Two-Time Summerpalooza Champion (2 Viewers)

Thoughts up for Mrs. NV today, her dad, who a lot of you know has been fighting cancer for a while had a heart attack early yesterday morning.

They're waiting on an operating theatre for an angiogram/angioplasty (I guess these kind of get combined these days?) but has also asked if anything goes wrong during that procedure, not to be resuscitated.
Well wishes to your FIL, and comforting vibes to Mrs. NV. 🙏

Yes, all of this.

So am I correct in understanding we don’t have an open waiver wire period in this league? I put a bid in last night and it’s saying it won’t process/run until Saturday….. thx.

That’s likely a player that was just dropped. I’d bet that player has a yellow + sign next to him, as opposed to Green. You can pick up player with a green +, but have to wait until dropped players clear waivers, which in this case is Saturday.

Got it. That makes sense. I thought they had a green plus but might not have. Thanks.

You're in my thoughts, NV and NV's Mrs. and father. I hope all has gone well.

It might not be green or yellow. Just go by the parenthetical "W" and "date." Many players that are dropped go back into waivers. Pay attention to dates.

Just saw the dates when I went back in. Not sure how I missed them before.
I’ve never

How is your FIL doing?

He's in for the procedure right now 🤞

In a few hours I will be getting on a plane for the first time since 2019. Flying to Boston for a conference.
Masking up?
Yes. Though barely anyone else is.
Including (at least at the gate) a doctor I know that’s on this flight.
I still mask for the boarding process but lately once I’m in my seat I ditch it. Face stuffing and whiskey swillin time

Damn hadn’t realized he had passed. I missed that.

Yeah, so did I. He went with a bit of news, but you had to be looking for it. It's pretty sad. I missed news of his death until they re-released O.S.T. on vinyl after he passed and I found out that way. So I just RIP'd as a tribute here.

He's out and doing pretty well. Asked for a cream cheese bagel right away...

There was a 90% blockage on the left side, so they put a stent in there. There are more blocked arteries and issues on the right but they think they've got the major problem.

He's staying in the hospital over the weekend for observation/ensure the issues on the right are manageable and they don't need to go back in.

Bottom line, he's still here, his three daughters arrive Tuesday from England (previously planned visit) and it's a huge weight off for the time being.

It was a short flight (PHL -> BOS) so I masked the whole time except for when eating/drinking. The guy next to me was also masked.

Did you drop him a few days ago and re-sign him just so you could choose that Glen Campbell song? ;)

Absolutely. You have me figured out. Glen Campbell was partly for Truebluey, but mainly, to jog my memory about those songs I heard of as a kid. I guess Johnny Webb wrote most of his huge hits, come to find out.

I did drop Parris a few days ago. That was before Michael Pittman was missing a game. Given my flights of fantasy fancy, I may not use either he or Ashton Dulin, who I presumably picked off of waivers to start. The whole thing is a mess, really.

Pet Shop Boys - Please

This is going to sound stupid, but my indelible memory of the Pet Shop Boys is Jimmy Fallon doing that Saturday Night Live sketch where he keeps saying "East End boys and West End girls. West. End. Girls." in the singer's voice.

Just funny for once on SNL that time.

@rockaction Is it this league’s draft that you are lamenting in the Toney thread in the SP?

Yes, indeed. I looked at my roster at the end and wondered what I could have possibly been thinking, though it's probably not as bad as it seems. I just sort of have a mood at the time and go with it. Tomorrow if you ask me, I'll be a champion...

(Narrator: No he won't. His draft seems to have genuinely stunk.)

As for Toney, I roster him in a dynasty league, too, though it's more of my experimental dynasty league where I try stuff out. I took over a team and got the worst straw in a dispersal draft, and my team really stinks to high heaven. Acquired Toney on the cheap hoping he'd perform at least at value. So far, no luck of course. We'll see, though. These things have a way of working out.

But yeah, I openly talk about drafts that people on this board were members of. I never had a close friends home league because I was a late adopter of fantasy football and by the time I got into it, most of my friends no longer played nor cared. My main redraft league folded with COVID, so these are the only drafts whereby I can relate to many people in the Shark Pool. I like talking football, too, regardless of what league or form it took. So I'm always open to chat and give examples of things I've done right or wrong. Passes the time, really.

In honor of everyone who gave their body to the game, a bit of sadness. And I'm being serious about all of this just so nobody is confused (I can be weird). Probably one of the coolest albums of 2021 came out of Phoenix, AZ, not necessarily known as a cultural hotspot. But the aptly football and sport-nodding Injury Reserve's By The Time I Get To Phoenix was something out of this world. Mixing glitch pop with hip hop, the band managed to create an album full of melodic disorientation that really, in my mind, pushed the boundaries of what could be done within the hip hop/rap genre. It's so far removed from overground rap that it doesn't seem like rap at all, but rather, a weird arrhythmic and blues hybrid in the true sense of the words "arrhythmic" and "blues." This wildly experimental album was delivered with sadness, though, as one of the main members of the trio had died right before the record's release. When they did release it, it was to plaudits everywhere. So, in honor of all of our fallen sports heroes on injured reserve and the band itself, I give you my favorite track.

Injury Reserve - Superman That

I think in a 16-team league, everyone can legitimately look at their roster and think it blows.

Except my opponent this week. @Truebluey 's rosters looks stacked.
Good luck to us both. The projections have us just 2 points apart. Looking at your roster tears at my heart, because
A) Russ is my QB in my Home League (out 25th season!), AND I'm a Broncos fan.
B) Kupp carried my team to the Championship game last year (I lost) and I'll always love him.

So - hoping SOME of your team plays well.
