Survivor Season 42: Starts Wednesday March 9, 2022 (1 Viewer)

The thing is some of those Anti Vaxxers would get vaccinated because if they can get picked it strokes their ego and gives them a bigger platform if they are popular enough character.
Totally.

Sydney was accused of being an anti-vaxxer on Twitter (she's not), because Twitter is awful.

I think it often comes down to when your team loses, you look around and see where you are in the placement.  If you are the weakest player on a team (e.g. Tiffany), you are definitely going to say "we need to kill the stronger players for later in the game" for self survival.  It's easy for these teams to identify players who are weak, form an alliance with them, then find the borderline person to bring them to their side.  It's definitely a very poor team strategy and also not a great individual strategy, but it may be the only strategy that gets you to the next day if you are a weaker player.  Survive and advance.
I agree.  I think we have seen a shift.  Yes its best to keep the tribe strong.  BUT, if you are weak, and women historically are the ones targeted as weak, then if you dont change the narrative then you may find yourself on the block.  So i think we have seen alot of times people try to change it up and move the goalposts off of the whole weak player strategy.  Then they hope for a good land when they reshuffle the tribes.  Not saying its the best strategy as i agree not going to trible and getting rewards while building a strong voting block is ideal.  But if you are a weak player i get why you wouldnt play that way.

It will be very interesting to see how Heather on the blue tribe plays the game (we've seen virtually nothing from her in the episodes so far). She's the oldest woman on that tribe, and thus perceived as the weakest in challenges, but the tribe is strong and keeps winning. If they ever lose before a swap/merge, it's going to be hard for her to make the arguments Evvie and Tiffany have been making, because her tribe has been winning with strength.

Someone once said  "Australian Survivor isn't American Survivor" they should probably listen to that person.
agree.  i dont see any american top players going over there and doing well.  imagine her doing some of those challenges 😂

eta:   it happened already and it wasnt pretty.

So, I wonder what happens with the clue/paper that Brad found for the idol?  Will be interesting seeing Xander's reaction the next time they get together for an immunity challenge.

I like the twists in the new game play but are they going too far with all the lose-a-vote/steal-a-vote stuff?  You can steal a vote but only if you can vote yourself... you have an idol but can't use it until two other people find the same clue, and also, until that time, you can't vote at TC.   :loco:

Seems to be handcuffing players and making TC less dramatic.  Brad was essentially screwed since he couldn't vote, even though he supposedly had 2 advantages.

He couldn't vote because of one situation, but why couldn't he still use his steal-a-vote?

I would think a new clue will be placed for someone else to find.

Seems like they are trying to outdo Survivor Australia but making it even more ridiculous then Survivor Australia with all the twist.

But there is also a warning on the clues, taking this advantage might have  consequences, which I do like.

i kinda liked brad.  this was another move that i don't get.  keep the conniving Superfan, over the totally open goofball, that was way better at everything camp/game related.  that was allegedly tight with the 2 weakest links in the tribe.

i didn't like the clues, being placed directly in camp.  a result of the shorter game?  and since they have no rice, are they eating?  i know they got fishing gear, but i have yet to see anyone catch any fish.  i know they won some fruit last night.  yellow for example, has only been given that small amount of fruit last night.     seems like they would all be pretty darn hungry by now.

a PA will place it on the pillow of whoever they want to have it next.  probably the "no more NBA" girl.  Nasseer will most likely be gifted the next one in the blue tribe.

I feel like they're over-doing it with all the various advantages, it's just too much. The producers were over-thinking it. Maybe they panicked due to the shortened time frame, thought they needed to amp up the twists and rush more out there, more quickly.

Not a big fan of this season. They're trying to do too much, and it's just kind of a mess.

Will continue to watch, but not holding hope that it's gonna be a great season.

Alliances doesn't mean anything anymore when it comes to sharing information.  You just can't because everyone wants to play multiple angles with multiple alliances.

Then they get mad/emotional when you don't tell them everything that's going on.  They make you feel bad because you haven't disclosed your entire game to them. Then when you do disclose, she goes and tells everyone else.  "I lost your trust, shame on you... so cave and tell me so I can go to other people and let them know too."

Darned if you do, darned if you don't.

Agree with all you guys. The having yo say something stupid at tribal makes it so obvious that they have advantages and everyone losing votes and working together to decide. They might as well have said all advantages must be read in front of everyone once you find them. I don’t know why Xander and Brad didn’t hide the goofy one but it’s obvious after the 3rd or maybe more times.

Doesn’t feel like you get to know anyone yet with all these advantages. We’ve got an every episode one member of each tribe thing and the cross tribe advantage thing so it’s almost as if the teams are already combined to a certain degree. Just not as fun to watch.

Yeah. Short season, 3 tribes, to many twist, just too much.

It might be fun if the players could give away their beware advantage, even if they had to show the message on the outside.  (I assume that's not allowed)

The message said to put it back if they didn't want to take the risk.  I assume they could tell someone else about it and that person could go get it.

Production wanted those to be found promptly so they would have someone from all three tribes at the night summit. The other advantages, that can lead to an idol, are being hidden in harder places, like the idols themselves were in previous seasons.

Exactly. They wanted it to happen that night not spread it out over 3 nights.

I appreciate them trying new things, especially new things that can shake up existing alliances or de-stabilize someone's control. Forcing people into Prisoner's Dilemma/Golden Balls situations is definitely how to do that. And I appreciate they're not just full on idols being given out willy-nilly, but parts of idols... it feels like three guys have idols but right now none of them do, and who they're partnered with is completely random. That's a further chaotic element I'm all for.

However, they're doing too much, too fast, too early. We haven't had the first tribe swap yet. There are no cross-tribe or cross-alliance connections to exploit yet. Brad didn't even know the other two girls' names yet. Trying to force some kind of moral conundrum on them there is just weird.

Hopefully this is the bulk of it, done now just all to get things moving early, and there isn't a new one coming every week. This would all be more interesting closer to merge or immediately after.

I don't know if it's just viewer knowledge talking, but why would you ever be one of the first two to say the goofy idol lines at the challenge? Wait to be the 3rd person and don't out yourself until you have to.

Especially Xander. He already said that ####### line once. The other people would know. Just wait until you hear both other lines at this point.

You have to say it. The thing says "You must say this phrase at the next challenge" (or I misheard it)

Understood. What I'm saying is that it's dumb to be the *first* one to say it. You are taking a chance that no one responds and put a target on your back by saying a random weird phrase and then having to *repeat* that phrase again later. Smart play is to wait until the 2 other tribes say their lines and then you say yours.

Yeah, maybe. Remember there's editing. For all we know that's what Brad did, and had to shoehorn it in there last second before the challenge starts.

I'm not sure we do understand each other though: you have to say it at each immunity challenge. So if you're the only one who has found it, you HAVE to repeat it at the next one every time until the other two are said. I don't think it's optional.

Now - with one of the holders voted out - is Xander just screwed?

I see what your saying. I think I understood the "must" in the advantage text to say that you must say the phrase if you want to unlock the immunity, not necessarily that you must say the phrase no matter what. But you could be right and that makes sense.

It's kind of unclear. It says you must say the line at the next immunity challenge.

these einsteins have already revealed every bit of info related to the idol, to their team mates.  it's only surprising to the team/s that had not found one yet.  and the phrases are so dumb and out of context, that it's obvious that something is up.  i would have preferred something more along the lines of. "i really miss my family" "i can't get any sleep"

It really should have been done with just a word instead of a phrase.

'Broccoli' instead of the stupid broccoli line.

'Grandma' instead of the stupid butterfly line.

Etc.

Would have made it interesting without being over the top.

Brad definitely should have said his line. But Xander should have waited to see if a #3 spoke up about the goat on astroturf, and then only re-said his butterfly line in order to unlock the idol. Failing a third person speaking, obviously Brad and Xander should then just keep their mouths shut at every challenge until they hear the third phrase. If they each have to say it for like five challenges in a row waiting, it'll be dumb.

Typically if a Survivor is voted out with a immunity idol in their possession the idol is put back into the game.

I don't think it is unclear.  After you find the clue, you MUST say the phrase at the next challenge.  So, Xander had to say it last week and Brad had to say it this week.  It does NOT say that you must repeat it at every challenger.  But, it is not activated unless all 3 are said at the same challenge.

So, worm is correct in that Xander should not have said it until both of the other tribes say it.  No reason to.

But worm, you make it sound like hypothetically everyone should be quiet until the other say it.  Well, someone has to go first.

Frustrating season so far. I probably dislike Ricard and Shan the most and the other fools are playing right into their hands.

I thought yesterday's episode was the best of the season. No advantage talk, camp life scenes, a failed challenge throw and an unbelievably dumb decision by the player who got booted. All quite entertaining to me.

I also think the blue tribe is a mostly untapped well of crazy that should burst out soon.

This is interesting to me, my wife also dislikes Shan, but I like her and am low-key rooting for her (as much as anyone at this stage of the game, still feels really early). I think, at least to the viewers, she's very transparent as to when she's being evil (especially with the focus on the "up to mischief tune"), but to individuals in the game, I bet it's much less apparent how many shenanigans she is up to. I find it really surprising though that JD was soo trusting to give her his advantage not once, but twice, and shows how much trust she's gained. The interesting thing is, will Ricard start to distrust her seeing her cut down JD so easily.

Also, their tribe may continue to lose if there isn't some sort of merger soon, so it may be a moot point. My guess right now is a swap at 12 to two tribes of 6 with the merger coming fairly quickly after that. But might just go 3 right into the 12 person merger, we'll see.

I think they become two tribes next week with 6 and 6 and an odd man out joining the loser of the immunity challenge after they vote someone out.

JD is an idiot but I don't like how Shan manipulated him, for the second time. She uses the guilt trip and he just hands over his advantage, for the second time.  He's a kid and wants her to like him but he claims to be the ultimate survivor fan and knows the game better than everyone and so on.  Classic manipulation and she just used him as well as anyone has been used on that show before.  Would like to think that Jedi mind BS wouldn't work on some of the older players. Good on her, I guess.

These people are dumb. Throw a challenge?  Give away your advantage? TWICE!

Put me in the don’t like Shan camp. Her “pastor” moniker and that stupid song, all to say that she’s a “good” person. And then just twisting that poor kid in knots.  She’s straight poison.

Not a big fan at all and they aren’t looking great for the merge down to 3 with Genie. It would have been smarter to keep JD who obviously would have been loyal. Sometimes you wonder if an extra vote is worth having your 3rd ally not be anywhere near as loyal as the person you picked off.

JD is a moron, he couldn’t even come close to reading that she wanted him off so she keeps his extra vote. I mean is was so obvious. That said, he wasn’t going to play it and even if he did, he still gets voted off. He first needed to find a better hiding spot than tucked in his belt and second needed to realize the game she was playing. I’m assuming JD has never had a girlfriend so he had 0 ability to read her. His only chance was to realize it and work with Genie with his extra vote.

What was the deal with trying to throw the challenge? I didn’t even realize he was thinking that. I must have missed it walking around while watching with my wife. It’s way too early to do that. You have 6 on your tribe. If you win, the other two are down to 7. It takes one disgruntled person and bam you have a merge advantage. Throw the challenge and you are down 8-5 and you need at least two. No idea which tribes go where yet but why do that so early?

To me when I watch, it seems Shan is getting the "winners edit".

But maybe that's because they always show more footage of the tribe going to tribal, and she's been going there almost every week... maybe just the winner's edit of this part of the game.

Hard to tell at this point because they have been at tribal the most and have the smallest tribe. Blue team has twice as many people. I seem to remember this happening before for the same reasons and that tribe did nothing, again because the had no one left.
