TE Colston Loveland, CHI (1 Viewer)

I can also see the side where what seemed like the Bears biggest offensive need was RB and they got sniped twice, the first time on Jeanty which was probably less of a surprise.
I am highly confident the Bears both know the Raiders were eyeing Jeanty and that the Browns had serious conversations with them about moving up to 5. They had a shot, the opted against it.
But I think the Pats taking Henderson was much more of a surprise, and legit one pick before them.
Strongly disagree, Henderson was someone talked about extensively at 33 and had some late rd 1 whispers as well. They were sitting on 39, 41, 72, and 148. The Dolphins traded out of 37 for 48 and 98. Judkins went 36, leaving just one RB and 2 spots between them. Like day 1, they had a shot, and opted against it.

Quiet in here. Seems like the top TEs in this class have lost a little steam and everyone is enamored with the RBs.

Loveland starting to slip in drafts a bit? Most of my drafts start next week…
He's one of the better draft values. I keep having to pick between him and Burden. I've been taking Burden where I have a strong TE(s).

Still Pats may well have taken Savaiinaea if Miami hadn't traded up for him. Pats did need a back like Henderson.

Just took him at #9 FFPC single QB
Got him at 11 in same format which works for me since he's my 9th ranked player and this looks like only place I'll get him. My top two TE's are older guys (Kelce/Goedert) and I have Likely so pretty TE heavy but it's fine, hopefully the vets allow me to incubate them a year if need be until they shake Andrews and Kmet respectively.

To those of you who own him let me pass on this feel good quote I read earlier in a Mike Sando piece on The Athletic were he interviews league execs for feedback on the draft:

“Loveland is going to catch a million balls,” an exec said. “He will be better than (Sam) LaPorta. He is such a good receiver, and he’s bigger — two inches taller and another 10 pounds.

In my mind you dont need to spend capital like this on a TE3 on your team. Its technically 4, but obviously Kelce is probably in his last year, Anyway its not that important a position to burn a first when you already have good players.

Thank for your input but:

BPA over need

It’s TEP and you can start 3

1-2 are aging out

Really a no brainer for what was left

I just spend 3 hours debating the 2 TE's so add me to the list as I just added Loveland at the 1.08. Also didn't realize the 2 year age difference until I read this thread closer.
I spent 3 hours trying to trade down to 9 or 10 but couldn't even get minimal addition out of it.
Offered up 1.08 and 2.09 for 1.09 and 2.06 no go
Offered up 1.08 and 2.09 for 1.10 and 2.05 no go also would risked losing both TE's had that been accepted.

I drafted Mayer over LaPorta twice in similar close calls at 1.12 and 2.02 a couple years ago so I sure hope there isn't that much of a difference between these 2 guys. That has been hard to live with.

Ben Johnson throws the gauntlet down, challenges Bears roster to earn their keep

“What I’m going to be curious to see is what guys look like when the ball’s not in their hands on offense,” Johnson said to reporters on Saturday. “We have a lot of weapons. So, how are you going to run your route when you might not be No. 1 in the progression? How are you going to block for your teammate when he has the ball? Because when you do those things right, then as a coaching staff, we’re going to want to get you the ball a little bit more. So it all ties together.”

“Get comfortable being uncomfortable,” Johnson told reporters in January, on the message he had to his players. “The bar has been set higher than it’s ever been set before, and the only way for this team and for you as individual players to reach your potential is to be pushed and to be challenged.”

I think we should be prepared to have 0 clue how anything on this offense will shake out; and be comfortable with the fact it might take well into the regular season until we really find out.

My wild and baseless guess is if DJ Moore isn't traded (to me all his quotes really point to DJ Moore's poor attitude and work ethic last year, which was pretty widely called out in the community and shouldn't come as a shock to anyone), either Kmet or Loveland (or both) will wind up taking the hit. Moore and Odunze will be the primary WRs, Burden will work from the slot like he did 80% of the time in college. I guess there's a world where Burden is just super un-impressive and can't make it work and then run 12 personnel and Kmet and Loveland both get the work; but that seems like the longer percentage shot IMO.

I appreciate the words from the head coach and your insights into what that may mean.

I hear coaches talk about marrying the run with the pass and that's what I've seen the Lions offense do. Everyone blocks. The pass plays open up the same as the running plays. Much 9f the passing is short and the position of team mates key to making that space. I won't say they block before pass but it's pretty close together.

So you add this guy to the mix who will be great at both.

I heard some talk about him and McCarthy when they played together and McCarthys stats throwing to this guy were ridiculously good.

This was brought up as reason why Hockenson should do well with McCarthy but bring it up here to say Loveland is very good.

Some were arguing for the Vikings taking him even with Hockenson not that he would ever fall that far.

He got a steal. Loveland is easily worth more than pick 11 in the FFPC single QB format

11 is good value. My point was with at least 3 other TE on his team, he could have used 11 on something else and added value to his team at another position

It's a dynasty league. The next 8 years are more valuable than the 2025 season.
If he really wants he can try to trade one of the other TEs.
Either way, was an obvious pick

Not sure if you play FFPC but good TEs are pretty valuable in that format. I regularly roster 3-4 of them in some leagues, the good ones are startable as a flex, and the really good ones are worth a lot. I wouldn't let having 3 TEs stop you from taking a shot on an elite TE prospect in FFPC. Especially in Meno's case where Kelce/Goedert are on their way out anyway and Likely is far from a guarantee. It's worth it to take shots on multiple young TEs.

You know I had it in my head to sunset him and try and deal Goedert, have been hoping he would got traded and pick up his appeal.

What's a reasonable ask for Kelce? Mid to late second in range?
