TE Darren Waller, MIA (2 Viewers)

My last post on this because it has taken up too much of my time already as a fins fan.
Targets should go to Hill (now that he's had surgery and recovered) then Waddle and Achane out of the backfield. Achane, with Tua healthy, should see 100 targets this year. He hit 87 last year and that was with Tua out for a while.

Waller should be no better than the 4th option in this passing offense. All three of the other guys are better than Waller.

As a fins fan please don't feature Waller, he doesn't need more than a couple targets each game.

Until one or more of them get injured like last year...when Jonnu exploded.
1) It took both Tua and others to get injured so that Jonnu could get more targets.
2) Huntley only targeted the TE which was a detriment to the team. The offense cannot and should not run through the TE for MIA (Jonnu or Waller).
3) Jonnu is much better than Waller at this point in their careers.

Just say no to Waller as someone you can feel comfortable starting each week.

I don’t think anyone has any intention stating Waller. I’m sure he’s no more than a end of bench guy for now.

Based on every single thing I'm looking at I don't see how any of this information you are saying here checks out as accurate.

Jonnu got more targets in Tua's games then the games without him(and that's with throwing out the week 2 game that Tua went out near half). 10 full games with Tua, 6 without. Got more targets per game in the 10 full games with Tua then the 6 without.

The health of the other Big 3 had noting to do with any of it, they actually missed a higher percentage of games in the non-Tua full games when his targets were lower, and the odds of those 3 only missing a total of 2 games all year is unlikely.

Waller feels like one of those "so overrated he's actually underrated" types to me. I'd be ok to have him as a TE2.
TE2? I don’t think so. Maybe TE4. He probably won’t be worth a plug nickel.

'Plugged' nickel, ya whippersnapper! ;)
I've heard that term about 20 times and all 20 times are from watching Remember the Titans lol
I'm pretty sure it's a southern term. I grew up in Ky and heard it a few times, referring to someone negatively. Usually a substitute for laziness, or someone that cannot do the job.

Makes sense, it was definitely Julius was tearing into Gerry about the how the offensive line "haven't blocked for (Rev) him worth a plugged nickel!" haha.

Some early United States coins (minted in the 18th and 19th centuries) were made with a small silver disc added to the center of the coin in the planchet (blank metal) before striking. This was done to increase the value of the metal in the coin up to the coin's face value. A plug nickel or plugged nickel is a nickel (now a five-cent coin, but originally a one-cent coin and later a three-cent coin) where the "plug" (center disc) has been removed, thus decreasing the metal value of the coin. People would often examine their change after a cash transaction to ensure they did not receive such a coin.

My only thoughts since he came back has been injury jokes.

But actually, it would be really fun to see Waller come back and help a healthy high-flying MIA offense.
I would love to see Waller bounce back with a stellar season. While I would not spend much to acquire Waller, I wouldn't mind having some shares. Miami, in general, worries me, however. Poor O-line play, a QB with a history of concussions, injuries piling up, and a head coach whose time seems short. I am not a big believer in Mike McDaniel.

I still don't expect anything from him and I won't be drafting him. Washington and NWI should be the third targeted pass catcher (not including RBs) after Hill and Waddle.

I just don't get excited for Waller who still isn't in shape.

I still stand by original assessment that 30 year olds don't retire and then come back a year later and play well. At this age, once you check out, it's over.

He's my 3 rd TE behind Njoku and Kraft. Just wanted some upside, maybe he fills the Jonnu role from last year? but hes also an easy cut for me on a very strapped dynasty roster

The great mystery has been solved: Darren Waller is dealing with a hip injury. Of course, the next question is: When did this happen
The secrecy involving player injuries, sometimes for months (see OBJ 2024) is annoying as a fan. I don't think its HIPAA rules, maybe part of the CBA.

Finally, the 🐬 owned up, it's a hip, not HIPAA, hopefully your fantasy team didn't have any hiccups.

I found the video of the injury!

In all seriousness, however, this is no surprise. Waller spent a year out of football, he turns 33 this month, and the last time he played in the NFL, he didn't look all that good.

Sadly, the Dolphins don't appear to have any contingency plan at Tight End. This team is a hot mess right now.

The contingency plan is Tanner Conner, UDFA wr converted to TE. Mostly practice squad for 3 preseasons, health issues, some preseason moments, but only 3 catches during the regular season. Athletic comp is Jonnu Smith, similar size, 4.5 forty.

On polymarket Miami is at 7.5 wins, mediocre not a hot mess ... yet. If Tua stays healthy, 8-9 or 9-8 is likely. Lots of IFs on the oline.

Hot mess might have been a bit too harsh, but I had hopes that Miami could progress, and they have not.

Tanner Conner is definitely intriguing, but I don't think he represents a very well-planned contingency. I was also excited about Jalin Conyers who ended up on IR. I would have liked to have seen Miami bring in a veteran who could bridge the gap.
