TE Evan Engram, DEN (2 Viewers)

I just love fantasy football. There shouldn't have been a safer redraft pick. 114 receptions last year, 200 vacated targets, same QB, same HC and OC. Hadn't missed a game as a Jag until now.

I shoulda went zero TE like I usually do instead of burning a pick on Engram.
Season is two weeks old.
Take a pill
Have a drink
Smoke your favorite smoking stuff
Chillax
October will bring more than witches, goblins and ghosts
Evan will be fine

Just don’t mix pills and alcohol. Especially opioids and alcohol. Just as deadly. mixing large amounts of alcohol and Tylenol. Yes Tylenol.

I didn’t go to comprehension school so thank you, master!

I dislike quips like this. What purpose does it serve? Be above it man.
What do you mean? The guy is responding in a sarcastic and not even helpful tone. I said numerous times that engram is injured and I recommended to bench him and his responses are not helpful at all.

So, I fight sarcasm with sarcasm. But, I’ve stopped responding to it for now. I’ll ignore it going forward. Appreciate you calling me out on it so that I can just be better.

On topic- again, engram is injured. The jags are broken. The backup looked good. Start the backup when engram is hurt. Feels simple right?

Any updates on our feelings about the jags this year?
Jags fan here, with Engram on my fantasy team. He’ll miss another 4+ weeks? Strange should produce some decent numbers but will get nowhere near Engram’s target share. Buy low on Christian Kirk and add Parker Washington to the end of your best ball bench. I assume Jags will go run heavy in the near term, so reach out to the Bigsby owner and see if he wants to sell after last week’s 0.

On the big picture It’s become very simple. Jags go on the road the next two weeks against conference championship contenders, while the skittish QB is missing his TE security blanket.

Common sense tells us that they will emerge 0-4 and the season is lost. (I don’t think this, but I’m an idiot)

Once again they neglected improving the offensive line and it shows

Through 2 games, Jags things continue to happen—Etienne fumbles at the goal line as they were set to go up 24-7; next game Engram gets hurt in warmups and Bigsby is knocked out on a kickoff return

The $275 million QB is unable to rise above these challenges in otherwise winnable games

Thanks for letting me vent. Serenity now!

That said, Trevor is 2-0 vs the Bills, so of course I’m taking the Jags +200 on MNF.

Is the “miss another 4+ weeks” based on any significant news/chatter or just an answer to the gut feelings question specifically

Great question and sorry for not making this clear...100% just a gut feeling. Adam Hutchison's note is below, which is almost assuredly more accurate than my guess.

But they're being very tight-lipped about this which gives me a bad feeling. Plus, FWIW, Jags are in London Week 6 & 7 vs. Bears and Pats, two teams they should be able to beat (like the Browns, ha!) without Engram

TE Evan Engram, Jacksonville | Hamstring | Projecting Week 5 Return

In one of the stranger injuries this week, Evan Engram sustained a hamstring strain in pregame warmups and did not play. Engram likely had a full-blown strain/muscle pull and not just "tightness" since he ended up sitting out the game entirely. Plan for the Jacksonville TE to miss some time.

Thanks! Obviously an inexact science but that’s helpful context

Wouldn’t they place him on IR if he was going to be out 4 weeks?
If they knew he was for sure out that long, most likely. If it’s a 3-6 week type timeline maybe not?

Confusing news source saying he's playing? Anyone out there with more info?

Jaguars | Evan Engram likely to play
Published Sun Oct 6 5:24:00 a.m. CT 2024
(thehuddle) Jacksonville Jaguars TE Evan Engram (hamstring) is considered to be a long-shot to play in Week 5's game versus the Chicago Bears, according to multiple sources.
Analysis: Engram, who is in danger of missing his fourth consecutive game, had been listed as questionable on the injury report after logging three limited practice sessions during the week. He can be a starting option in fantasy leagues if he is cleared to play but owners should have alternate options available in case he's ruled out.

I believe that was a typo.

Jaguars HC Doug Pederson believes TE Evan Engram, who has not played since Week 1 due to a hamstring injury, is likely to return for Sunday’s game in London vs. the Bears. “I think the chances of him getting back in here this week are pretty good,” Pederson said.

Unreal. So sitting on a plane flying across the pond to London, that’s what his hamstring needs….

if your hamstring is good enough to run full speed down a football field, sitting on a plane is not going to bother it lol

Owners have been waiting a long time for his return. Not expecting blow-up stats his first game back but hoping he will provide ppr production from last year.

Jags will be in London for next 2 weeks. So even if Engram isn't ready for week 6 against Chicago, have to believe he will be good to go in week 7 in London against Patriots.

Anyone else hearing/seeing anything about EE playing Week 6? Anything from Thursday's practice in London?

Only thing I'm seeing is he was limited on Wed (again) and that Pederson is optimistic he will play.

Guessing majority of owners drafted/auctioned for him as being a top 5 TE, so I'm holding on as long as possible. I'm running into bye week issues and his bench spot is making things very difficult. I need to wait until his status is announced Sunday morning (London game) to then determine if I drop him or someone else.

Snippets from today's news

Jacksonville Jaguars have Evan Engram back. How will that open more options in passing game?

Engram missed four games with a hamstring injury and is eager to contribute any way he can

Evan Engram is back, at a crucial time for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The eighth-year tight end, who injured his hamstring during pregame warmups before the Cleveland game in Week 2, has missed four games but appears to be ready for Sunday when the Jaguars open their two-game London trip against the Chicago Bears at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (9:30 a.m., ABC, NFL Network).

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, believes Engram will step right in and contribute.

"Obviously he's a huge part of our offense and hasn't been out there the last month or so, so we've definitely missed him and the type of player he is," Lawrence said. "I think just all the things that he does well, obviously with the ball in his hands, down the field, his speed is a threat. Getting him the ball would be great."

Engram is hesitant to talk about how he got injured.

"I'm not going to get into details," he said. "Something I'm not in control happened to me and that's that."

The idea of Engram and Strange in the game together in double tight end formations is intriguing. And as dangerous as they can be over the middle and short routes, it can open even more deep shots to Thomas and Kirk.

"We'll limit his volume, ramp him up, give him what he needs and see how he is at the end of the week," coach Doug Pederson said. "But him being back is definitely a boost for the offense.”

Set those lineups early for the London game fantasy managers: Engram (hamstring) is listed as questionable, and hasn’t played since suffering the injury in warmups before Jacksonville’s Week 2 game.

Evan Engram caught all 10 of his targets for 102 yards in the Jaguars’ Week 6 loss to the Bears.

Engram returned to action after missing four games with the hamstring injury he suffered during pre-game warmups before Week 2. He didn’t miss a beat and was Trevor Lawrence’s top pass-catcher out of the gate, leading the team with a 29 percent target share. Engram was an easy button for Lawrence to press on a day when he couldn’t get much else going. He will continue to serve as an outlet option in Week 7 against the Patriots and is back in the TE1 rankings

This guy is going to finish as a top 3 TE at this rate... 10 targets + goal line guy is amazing usage.

Does it matter when you get 15 targets even when double covered?
Engram's numbers over last years 1-5 slide to end the season (tgts-recs-yds-tds):

v. CIN: 9-9-82-1
@ CLE: 12-11-95-2
v. BAL: 6-4-28-0
@ TB: 15-10-95-0
V CAR: 6-6-60-0 (the only win)
@ TEN: 13-10-79-1

Roughly 45% of targets, receptions and yds came over these last 6 games, plus 100% of his touchdowns

As an Engram owner, you kind of want the Jags to blow

For dynasty managers, Engram could very well be a cap casualty in the offseason. He's due a huge raise (from $2 mil to over 14) in the last year of his contract. The Jags will be in rebuild mode and I can't see them keeping him for that kind of money at 31 years old, especially when it would delay Strange's development.

BTW, just spitballing here, but there's no way Engram is 240 (his listed weight). A notoriously poor blocker, I'm surprised they don't move him to WR. He hurts their run game as a TE. For one, WR would be his best position, IMO, and two, it would make Strange a starter (he's a very good prospect). I know they run some 12 personnel, which essentially makes Engram a WR, but I believe it's their best package. BTJ and Engram out wide with Kirk in the slot would make a nice WR corps.

for sure. Nothing better than being down 20+ at the half....tons of garbage time targets / points.
