TE Travis Kelce, KC (2 Viewers)

Those hoping Wiley is Kelce’s successor may be waiting awhile. Says he will play until the wheels fall off.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Travis Kelce turns 35 in October and acknowledged he's a lot closer to the end of his football career than the beginning. But he said he's not planning on 2024 being his final season.

"I love coming to work every single day and doing this, so I am going to do it until the wheels fall off and hopefully that doesn't happen anytime soon,'' Kelce said after the Kansas City Chiefs' minicamp practice Tuesday.

"I can't put a time frame on it, man ... Obviously I know that there's opportunities outside of football for me and I think you've got to keep in perspective that I'm still a little kid when I come into this building. I know I'm 34 years old, about to be 35, but I have a love to do this right here in the middle of the heat in June.''

So what are we thinking .. TE1 still?
I see no reason why he shouldn't be. Pretty good chance the additions of Brown/Worthy open up more space in the middle, and if Rice is suspended that's likely even more on Kelce's plate. He showed in the playoffs he can still take over games at any time as well as any TE.

Also, Mahomes had some fluky low pass TD numbers. I could easily see Mahomes bouncing back from 27 TDs to like 40.

So what are we thinking .. TE1 still?
TE 1 until proven otherwise.

He's still Mahomes #1 target. Last few years you had to spend around a late first for him. Now he's going start of the third round in redraft. I assume that climbs as we get closer to the season. Crazy value for him this year. He was banged up last year (2 different injuries he tried to play through) so that is the only risk as he gets older. But I'm all in on Kelce in redraft this year if I can snag him.

So what are we thinking .. TE1 still?
Yes, but I don't think I will pay the price to draft in redraft leagues. I would rather wait and get in on the TE2-8 type guys at a lesser cost.
Currently LaPorta is TE1 going before Kelce so technically he is TE2 in ADP. Early third or late 2nd currently which I don't mind the price.

TBH I haven't done much redraft mocks yet so really unsure how builds go and if it makes sense to go TE at that spot or hammer a different position. But early thoughts seems the price is pretty decent for Kelce right now if you want to go that route. If Rice gets suspended Kelce is going to get all the targets he can ask for at the start of the season.

I paid for him in a package expecting 1 year of production at TE1 value and maybe nothing else.
If he continues playing that’s all gravy.

Those hoping Wiley is Kelce’s successor may be waiting awhile. Says he will play until the wheels fall off.
With Wiley’s chances of being a productive NFL/FF TE pretty slim as currently constituted wouldn’t most of his owners want him to have 2-3 years of working alongside Kelce?

this

I targeted wiley and got him in all three of my dynasty leagues. the idea of him working with kelce for a few years is very appealing.

I'm nervous about him because of the age. 35 is old.

He was down a lot of the season. I worry that the age is starting to show. He was probably just hampered by the injuries.

In his 4 playoff games, he had 32 receptions, 355 yards, 3 TD's.

Over a 17 game season, that extrapolates to: 136 receptions, 1509 yards, 13 TD's. Now, someone's going to be quick to say "You're cherry picking." But I'm not. This was his pace at the very end of the season. I'm not trying to tell you he's going to give you that next season. I'm telling you he was playing at that level at the very end of the year. And so, I think he'll hold up for 1 more season at or near TE1.

Tony Gonzalez played at a high level until age 38.

Its certainly possible Kelce has a lot left yet.
Antonio Gates had a 90+ target, 7 TD season at 36.

Kelce takes good care of himself and had a fantastic playoffs (once he was healthy). Health is a concern as one ages but its baked into his current ADP.

Getting old. Offseason partying with the Swifties. Kinda looked a little plump arriving to training camp. With all that being said, in a million dollar entry fee league, I'd only take Laporta ahead of him for upcoming season.

Searching for this thread to see if anyone had any predictions for tomorrow night and ended up reading the first few pages on rookie drafters of Kelce.

Good stuff.

Apparently Kelce is suing after a document was released that was supposedly drawn up by his PR team about breaking up with Taylor Swift..

If Travis does dump her, expect a huge season from him. I honestly believe she is a distraction to him.

Yes because he looked terrible last year
Any perceived drop off isn't because of Taylor Swift
he's getting older

His numbers were down last season.., He had his worst season in yards since 2015, and last time he only had 5 TD or less was 2019.

whether you liked it or not, last season was not a typical Kelce season.

See above....he's getting older...it happens to all of them, even the really good ones.
Add the fact the entire Chiefs offense had an "off" year, including Mahomes, who Travis kinda depends on for his numbers.

Technically he didn't really get older.. He was the same age as he was as he ended the prior season.. Alot of people have said, him running to her concerts, missing several practices to do stuff with her had more of an effect on him then his age. His numbers outside receptions dropped dramatically last year.

Recall he had a bone bruise in his knee in preseason last year. I think that affected him for most of the season. During the playoffs dude looked like vintage Kelce.

C'mon..he was 12 months older with another year of wear and tear on his body.

Could be because Patrick and the whole offense kicked it up a notch.

I grabbed him in a TE premium league last night. 12 team SF with 7IDP starters. 250$ budget.

I had zero intentions of picking Kelce up, however my league mates were asleep at the wheel in the early going and let Mahomes come to me for 44$(68 last year), so I threw a few $$$’s Kelce’s way, 28$ was the winning bid.

I already had Kincaid(one of 2 keepers), so it looks like I’ll be rolling out 2TE’s on a weekly basis. Pretty pumped over all about this! I am already a Mahomes fanboy, this won’t help with that situation, haha!

Where was she when he went he caught 20 of 21 targets for 209 yards and a TD against Baltimore and San Francisco?

Wrong again, Sherlock. Swift wasn't on tour over the winter and attended every Chiefs playoff game.

It's about time you retreat from your terrible takes here.

Swifties will rip your throat out with their bare hands if you insult their God

If Kelce stays healthy, I expect him to have a very solid year. I do think he was playing injured for much of last season which hurt his production. Also—if I remember right—the Chiefs passing offense (and offense in general) wasn’t as “elite” as many expected. I think they were like 10th in passing and 10th in scoring. Sure—thats top 1/3 of the league—but I think that most people would expect a Mahomes led offense to be better than that. I think that the KC offense will be improved this season (especially when Hollywood Brown returns). I think they move the ball more—and I think they will have more opportunity to score TD”S—and even if Kelce slows down a bit—I think he’ll score moderately to significantly more td’s this season than he did last season.

Now that my actual “football” analysis about him is complete—I will give my thoughts about random conspiratorial stuff. I do believe that the Kelce/Taylor Swift relationship is something that the NFL is clearly benefitting from—and I think that Kelce having a good year is a good storyline for the NFL. I certainly don’t know and won’t guess if and how the NFL could make that happen—but I do think that the NFL tends to get what they want. Take that for what it’s worth (which isn’t much).

Really? Why do people jump the gun so quickly on this board? Did he look cooked in the playoffs last year? Did something happen in a few short months to label him as such? Now look, no one wants to see him go away more than me, but we haven't seen enough of Kelce between the playoffs in 2023 and now to make that determination.

Remember when people were blaming Jessica Simpson for Romo’s decline in play when they were dating? I’m looking at you Taylor Swift…

Eh, hes older, looks slower. Lowest YPC of his career last year (almost 2 yards less than his career average).

The signs are there my brother.

In 4 playoff games this past season (the last 4 games of the season):

32 receptions, 355 yards, 3 TD's

Extrapolated over 17 games: 136 catches, 1509 yards, 13 Touchdowns.

There were signs he was STILL very good at VERY end of the season. Week 1 leads to a lot of overreaction. We tend to fall into a trap of thinking week 1 tells us how everything is going to go. Kelce could have had 3 catches for 34 yards in week 12 and we'd chalk it up to a bad game.

He'll be 35 in a month. He could fall off the cliff this month. But I don't think 1 game last night tells us that. And I don't think last season tells us he's falling off in light of his playoff performance.

he'll still be te1. just is gonna be more volatile. in the past the way you slowed the chiefs was double or triple team kelce. when scrubs like mvs were on the outside that was effective. the ravens were doing that last night but now you got rice in the middle with kelce, worthy on the outside and when brown returns even more outside/inside threats. gonna be up to the defense who they let try to beat them. kelce will have big games when defenses key in on rice and others.

He will definitely be "a" TE1. But no chance, IMO he finishes at the top again this year.

Anyone have what his PFF grade was last night?

i think he still has that chance. as the season chugs along he might be more free as the other weapons open up things for him a little more. and he'll still be a top redzone target for mahomes
