TE Travis Kelce, KC (3 Viewers)

Cue long sad songs about a guy who was not there all the time and wanting and wishing it could be different... And alas: the end of what was.

And I am all for it. More fans makes for a better overall experience. More women getting into football means I can possibly go on a date with a woman who shares an interest in the things I like.

Bring on the swifties.
And on the other end, they are risking losing a lot of viewership by keep ramming a celebrity that has nothing in common with the NFL down out throats.

Right now I almost don't mind it, but I am teetering on a thin edge with all the Swiftiness.

She is dating an NFL player (one of its best current players). That is a connection.

And it's one game a week. If having a musician you aren't a fan of crammed down your throat for one game is too much to bear, then maybe then sport isn't for you anymore.

Honestly, only watch it now for FF purpose.. If I stop that, I honestly probably wouldn't watch it..

Add the bad officiating with all the politics and ********, now this... It's def not the same as it was before from a fans perspective.

That said, NFL changing their header to Swift is ridiculous.Didn't TOM BRADY marry a famous model? Why didn't;'t they change their header to her when he did.

Taylor Swift is arguably the most famous woman in the world right now. exponentially more famous than Gisele.

Exactly. And let's not forget that the networks would often cut to shots of her when the Patriots would score when she was at the games, so this is what the NFL is. If a big name is there in the building, they will find ways to show them as much as possible. That has to be better than a million shots of Jerry Jones old crusty *** slowly high fiving after Cowboys scores, no?

If that’s all it takes to lose those “fans” then the NFL is better off without those butter soft losers.

IMO

Agreed but they’re not losing anyone. People are whining on forums just like this one and tuning right back in the next week lol

It’s not for me but it’s shockingly easy to just recognize that the maybe 10 aggregate minutes of cutaways one game a week are not for me and keep it pushin, just like the commercials

Plus, she is back on tour in South America in a month, so these little game stops she is doing won't last much longer. Maybe she will hit another one or two before November, but that is it. Going last night was easy since it was a home game for the Jets and not only is her primary residence in NY, but a lot of her friends who also went last night also live in the NY area, so it was easy to do a group thing and all go together. That won't be the case with away games anywhere else or even KC home games.

Nope, just a fan who follows her career (like I do for many other favorite artists; she's just the most highest profile one by a landslide).

Exactly.

There's a dude in one of my long-time leagues - he went far far right. Kept claiming he was boycotting the NFL, Ultra MAGA blah blah blah. Yet every single year he dutifully pays his league fees, and based on his participation in the group chats commenting on the games, he's obviously still tuning in to watch. Butter soft boycott. lol

The NFL has always been political. What, do people think Air Force fly-overs, national anthem with color guard, veterans on the field waiving a gigantic American flag are anything but political? They're paid for out of military recruitment funds. That stuff literally started in the 1941 season as part of the war recruiting effort.

It's not that the NFL is too political for some folks - it's that inclusivity politics like BLM, "end racism", etc is a flavor of politics that some folks don't want.

Newsflash: not only is that never going away, it's likely to become a larger aspect, because the NFL (like any successful business) knows they must have the broadest appeal possible.

I used to purchase jerseys now and then, and I'd wear one every Bengals gameday. I still watch, and I know they get their piece from me because I have cable with NFL and Redzone. Still play fantasy obviously. But I'll never wear a jersey or buy any more licensed stuff for myself. I wear my "stand for the flag, kneel for the fallen" shirt every Bengals gameday instead. Not trying to be preachy, everyone else can do as they like, it just sickens me personally.

ETA: That Travis Kelce! Boy can he play.

Im sure there’s sales like that lost on the margins here and there, sure.

How many jerseys do you think the average fan buys over a lifetime? I’d guess it’s less than two, probably less than one.

They were talking on the broadcast about how his Jersey had jumped to the top of the top sellers list by a mile. I’m sure they’ll take the bird in the hand every time

800,000 follows in a day.

What % of those folks were already football fans? Not many I’d wager. Kelce jersey sales skyrocketed.

Whomever the NFL loses by promoting Swift, they gain 100000-fold.

How is this in any way political? Unless you have a problem with women's suffrage or something...

It's fine, was fun for a bit, seems like it will get old pretty soon though.

I literally had a 20-something year old chica I know call me from Colombia (where they obviously have very little interest or knowledge in professional American football) to tell me about how Taylor Swift is dating an NFL football player whose team won the Super Bowl last year for the second time.

That speaks volumes.

To be clear -- and I know you weren't replying to me -- my post wasn't regarding Taylor Swift at all, total tangent replying to a specific post.

However, although the Taylor Swift thing is in no way political, I can understand people being irritated by the NFL making fanfare about it in an official NFL capacity, and can recognize somewhat of a similarity to the political slogans they plaster all over stadiums. It's a business and there's nothing immoral about trying to capitalize on monetary opportunities, but that doesn't mean it's not annoying.
