The “Woke” thread (3 Viewers)

Even our youth are pushing back against this WOKISM. Son was at a Pan Hellenic (meeting) before rush was starting and they were discussing how to make the chapters more diverse. I think my son has had enough of this nonsense. He spoke up and said we will bid out to those who we enjoy socializing with and have our common interests and I don't see you telling Omega Psi Phi to bid out to white students for there chapter. He shut the council up quickly.

I read the San Francisco subreddit and it certainly seems like the tide is turning. The city is overrun with lawlessness, and it is dragging down everyone's quality of life. Cars, particularly those with out of state plates, are regularly broken into and the victims are blamed for having left something in sight. People piss and **** on the sidewalks. Drugs are sold openly. Every day I walk by many people smoking meth within a few blocks of a police station. (I just heard shattered glass outside my window while typing this.) Meth induced psychosis leads some lunatics, homeless or not, to terrorize their neighbors and everyone has to accept it. Stores are robbed so frequently that they close early and keep a significant amount of merchandise locked up. Elderly people are often targeted for vicious attacks. The Woke are claiming the subreddit has turned conservative, but it appears to me that more and more people are fed up with the obvious problems and no longer fearful of being labeled a bigot, racist, etc. Even among a small sample size of in-person conversations, I've heard people criticize progressive policies, to which others have said, "Well, I'm progressive but those are the bad progressives."

Myrna Melgar is on the Board of Supervisors and she answered a question about how she supports other candidates here:
I will support the most progressive candidate always, except if that candidate is a cis hetero white man, in which case I will instead support in this order, the most progressive:
Black man
Black woman
Person of color
Gay person
Woman
Woke progressives are proving themselves to be the most hateful, toxic people. I don't ever expect San Francisco to turn red. The Republican party is terrible in their own right, but at least it seems like people are starting to reject the racist woke progressives.

Obviously I’m not as critical of the other side because the history is so awful. On the other hand I don’t really care much.

But the bigger issue is that the right in this country is obsessed with cultural and woke issues: diversity, trans, what’s taught in schools. They don’t seem to approve of the positive changes we are slowly achieving as a society.

Translation: If I approve then it's not an issue. If I don't approve, it's nonsense.

And then there's the complainers complaining about the complainers. Ugh. The WORST.

See I think it’s exactly the opposite - that it’s the Left that is obsessed with diversity, trans, and other cultural issues, and Conservatives are just responding to itq. Left is instigating changes that many people on all sides of the political spectrum believe go over the line. Tim, do you actually hang out in any social circles that don’t just include liberals? It’s an honest question. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I talk with a lot of Conservatives and I can only think of one or two times in the last 20 years where I’ve heard something that was out right racist or homophobic. I live in a very rural part of a very liberal state, but my son goes to Clemson and I do spend a fair amount of time down south.

What I do hear a lot are people politely reacting to situations where liberals have just gone too far. An example of that is the trans track runner that was so famous in Connecticut. I told the story a few times in here but that athlete was in the same conference as my son’s school And we competed against him/her quite a bit. It was a very controversial topic, and yes there were petitions set around objecting to this person being able to compete as a girl. In all of this there wasn’t any ugliness at all. Without exception people would say that they liked Adriane, but that they didn’t think it was fair from a competitive standpoint.

Same thing goes for the child trans issues. I think most people are rightfully concerned about bringing complex personal issues like sexuality into elementary schools. That goes for straight and trans issues. It’s too young. Let kids be kids and deal with those issues at a more appropriate age in their development.

Once again, when these discussions have come up in my conservative circles, I always hear people go out of their way to say that they don’t care what adults do behind closed doors. “Live and let live“ is what I always hear. But children are different, and society has a moral obligation to protect those who can’t protect themselves.

If an alien came to this planet and I and only looked at this forum, they would swear that Conservatives are the most hateful, racist, homophobic, bigoted people in the universe. Look, I don’t doubt that there’s a certain amount of this bigotry in the country, but it’s not at all close to the level that is expressed in this forum. Maybe the situation is much more serious and I’m just not seeing it, but based on how Liberals treat Conservatives in here I think it’s much more likely that liberals are way over stating how bad things are.

One thing that gets completely ignored is the racism on the liberal side of the aisle. It never left the party. Racism is alive and well in the Democrat Party and their policies.

How does the hate for Dave Chappell rate? There are people upset that he will ruin the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert?

Yup. Wokeness and Liberals’ twisted views on racism have basically destroyed reality television. And a young man’s life. Last year on Big Brother an all-black alliance formed and won the show. The alliance was specifically designed around race, and all the votes cast by the 7 minorities were entirely based on race first and foremost. Their win was celebrated as a historic breakthrough for minorities in reality television.

This year, a white guy named Kyle, who appears to be a good kid, brings up the racial issue and suggests that the POC on the show may be doing the same thing this year. One black female contested had already told everyone in the house that she wouldn’t vote against a black woman under any circumstances. So Kyle approached two other white contests and raised his concern that the same thing might be happening this year. That’s all he did. The people he had the conversation with think this is horrible and racist, but of course not horrible enough to reveal until 3 weeks later when it suits their game. When the houseguests are told about what Kyle said they all jump on the woke bandwagon, shame the hell out of him, and vote him out. Even his girlfriend drops him like a bad habit.

The fans of BB, mostly young and woke, start referring to Kyle as KKKyle on social media and it becomes viral. Keep in mind all this kid did was suggest that what happened last year might also be happening this year. Now he’s going to live the rest of his life with this hanging over his head. I guess that’s progress?

I don't watch the show. Did Kyle talk to the two other contests on a episode that was broadcast?

I don’t think the actual conversation itself was broadcast live, but it’s linked in my post. The context of the conversation, which was exactly representative of what he said, was talked about several times live on the show, we’ll before it was revealed. Glad to hear that was your main concern. I’m sure there was some white supremacy going on in the editors room.

Ok, so I read your link. My concern was that reality TV is very scripted and the only thing they care about is ratings and money. So airing racial extremes could be very profitable these days. Sounds like they let some of it out w/o getting themselves in hot water. I literally read your post seconds after reading the tweet below, where a guy from 18 years at CNN explains why they are starting to air more right wing topics. Found the tweet very interesting and confirmed why I quit watching the news on a regular basis about 15 years ago.

CNN returning to straight up journalism is a great development and we should all be happy about it. The fact you find it problematic tells me a lot about you and the Left. Getting back to the topic, what do you think of what happened on big brother?

getting back to straight up journalism? wow, that's a stretch reading that text thread he wrote. All he talked about was how they needed to increase revenue, how only 50+ older people watch cable news, and how CNN was going to go after the 50+ older white male, as it's the #1 revenue source. That's not trying to return to journalism at all.

So you've told me "glad to hear that was your main concern". That was wrong.

"The fact. you find it problematic tells me a lot about you and the left"

The only thing I find problematic is that every decision is money based with the new head at CNN, instead of just reporting the news. But they all do that now. Nothing new. I have zero problem with what they want to do as a business.

Oh nice, another one calling me on the left. Do us all a favor and stop telling all us how we think. I've clearly stated numerous times I'm an I. I've never watched Fox News. I've never watched MSNBC. Not once.

I clearly stated just a few days ago they I want both parties blown up ASAP. You really have no clue how I'm thinking.

I asked a friendly, very simple question and you've replied by telling me what I'm thinking and accusing me of being on one of the teams. I showed genuine interest in your post with a simple question, and all you can do is vomit your agenda on me.

I'm not on a team. Being on one of those teams is exactly what both those teams want so you can keep arguing with each other and not stand up to them BOTH and accomplish some real change. Why do so many of you here keep calling us I's, libs? I've liked several jamny and Zado posts. They actually talk like humans and don't have to shout 24/7.

So carry on screaming and cheerleading for your team. You're doing an excellent job. Sorry to have bothered you.

Hey Zebras - my sincere apologies if I misread your intentions. I shouldn't have assumed like that. You seem like an honest guy and I may have just screwed the pooch. Having said all that, what are your thoughts on this controversy?

Totally agree.
You agree this will happen. I have the sneaking suspicion that you two would disagree on what they will be laughing at us about.
Let's see: The choice is laughing at people who suddenly forgot what a woman is (but then claim to "believe the science" on other topics) or those of us who already knew?

I think wokeness is an overcorrection, but if it "destroyed reality television" I might have to start supporting it. Reality television can burn in hell IMO

A hundred years from now people will reflect on this time in our history and shake their heads and laugh at us.
Yup. Wokeness and Liberals’ twisted views on racism have basically destroyed reality television. And a young man’s life. Last year on Big Brother an all-black alliance formed and won the show. If reality television goes away, how will the Republican Party find their next candidates for President and Congress?

We'll just pull them from Dementia wards or old folks homes where the Democrats get their candidates from.

Oberlin College initiates payment of awarded damages in Gibson’s Bakery case

Oberlin College and Conservatory has initiated payment in full of the $36.59 million judgment in the Gibson’s Bakery case and is awaiting payment information from the plaintiffs. This amount represents awarded damages and accumulated interest, and therefore no further payments are required.

On August 30, the Ohio Supreme Court issued its decision not to hear Oberlin’s appeal. Oberlin’s Board of Trustees has decided not to pursue the matter further.

We are disappointed by the Court’s decision. However, this does not diminish our respect for the law and the integrity of our legal system.

This matter has been painful for everyone. We hope that the end of the litigation will begin the healing of our entire community.
We value our relationship with the City of Oberlin, and we look forward to continuing our support of and partnership with local businesses as we work together to help our city thrive.

Oberlin’s core mission is to provide our students with a distinctive and outstanding undergraduate education. The size of this verdict is significant. However, our careful financial planning, which includes insurance coverage, means that we can satisfy our legal obligation without impacting our academic and student experience. It is our belief that the way forward is to continue to support and strengthen the quality of education for our students now and into the future.

Finally.

Wow, good for them (the bakery). Seems a little excessive but ok

They were awarded about 40 million. The court reduced it based upon some law. But the school could have settled for much less. They chose to litigate it as far as they could. That's the risk of not settling. Of course, they were actually guilty so I have no sympathy for them.

Never heard of it but if how it went down is true I'm glad they won
