The 2009 K Thread (2 Viewers)

Is there anything new on the Saints' kicker situation? Is Hartley expected to get the job once his suspension is completed?
I dunno but our commish you usually knows better took him as the 2nd kicker off the board  -QG
Our commish has him rostered (bench is only 6 long). Two kickers. WTF is that?I screwed up my draft a kicker with a late bye week strategy in that league because Gould was there in the last round. Yeah, yeah, the guy hasn't ever hit a 50 yarder as a pro, but he won me few games a couple years ago when he had his prolific year. Now I've been thinking for the last 2 weeks what I'm gonna do when he and Olsen have their bye...and it will keep bugging me for another month. Now see that's just messed up...if you have spent more than 30 seconds thinking about your kicker and his bye week... :football:

Is there no kickermania piece in the subscriber content for week 1.It showed up on Friday Pm's section Friday and now it's gone???

Plus I heard the coach say it was a mistake letting Carney go the previous season. I would guess if Carney does well he keeps the job BUT we ARE talking about a kicker they gave up on once already and the guy who replaced him so who knows.

hartley tested positive for adderral which was on the prohibited list. weird...he could have ADD and its against the rules to not take medicine to combat that?

so carney for weeks 1-4 for sure

If you have a valid reason to take the drug, with doctors orders and a prescription, the NFL will grant an exception.

this preseason's most underplayed fantasy event to me was the change in placekicker for the Saints. Hardly no mention anywhere and of course some fantasy services were clueless. I was able to dump Hartley Wednesday in my dynasty league's first waiver period of the year .

Game day reminder that Folk, Vinatieri, Hanson, and Graham apparently should all play today and handle placekicking, but not all will necessarily handle kickoffs. LINK

I read there's a possibility Carney keeps his job, even when Hartley returns from suspension.

I don't believe it...Hartley was a perfect 13-13 in FG's and 28 PAT's without a miss after he joined the Saints.

Does anyone have any new information on this?

Carney's Job To Lose?

JC has to show the ability to make a long FG attempt. clutch attempts would help him, for sure, because Saints fans stil remember

I recall reading somewhere that he absolutely will. They quoted someone as saying, something to the effect of "Hartley inspires confidence. When he steps out to take a kick, I don't worry"...something like that. I don't remember if it was Brees or the HC or who, and I'm sorry I can't post a link, but I definately recall reading that.

Carney had a FG blocked. Anyone know if that was his fault or the blocking?

Seems like a try out for Carney. Hartley doesn't seem so special that NO would change something that is working. So depends if Carney does the job well enough.

Also factoring into the equation is how rookie punter Thomas Morstead does on kickoffs. Morstead had 3 touchbacks on 8 kickoffs against the Lions. When the Saints previously released Carney, kickoffs was a big part of the reason. They didn't want to carry a second kicker to handle kickoffs, and they didn't have a punter who could do so. After seeing Carney succeed in NY last year, someone asked HC Payton if he regretted having let Carney go. He confirmed that he did.

the blocking broke down on the attempt. the good and bad news is that payton was completely pragmatic in his approach to the PKers (and Punters too) last year. mare sucked. melhaff showed promise but was cut. hartley came on and did okay in his short time on the team. coming into this season, payton seemed confident in hartley. i think most people expect hartley to come back and return as a starter. however, payton is one of the most unpredictable coaches in the game. there was some chatter about how he'd keep both with carney handling duties on attempts less than 35 yards. who the hell knows really?

3 touchbacks in 8 attempts is pretty damn good. If that trend continues, I think it will bode well for Carney.

Thanks for your updates. I'm a slightly nervous Crosby owner. Even if he plays I wonder if they will limit his FG's to ~40 yards and less. It makes a big difference in leagues that award bonus points for longer FG's.

Any worries that Elam will be limited this Sunday? He was on the injury report a bunch last year and I started him with no problems. Clearly though, last week he struggled.. Any homers have any word on what to expect this week or is he 100%?
