The 2010 K Thread (1 Viewer)

The news on this has been pretty thin. Mostly because, well, they're kickers.

Anyone know more than "their chances are even"?

Neil Rackers - K - Texans

Neil Rackers has beaten out Kris Brown for the Texans' placekicking job.

It's the right move. Rackers has been far more accurate throughout his career and Brown is now dealing with plantar fasciitis in his kicking foot. Rackers immediately becomes a viable fantasy starter thanks to the Texans' high-powered offense that allowed Brown 32 field-goal attempts last season. Brown, the last original Texan, will get a look elsewhere if he can prove his foot is healthy enough to kick.

I have Brown on my roster and am hoping he signs elsewhere soon, though his injury may delay that. Where would Brown's value be highest? Who needs a K? Cinci, Washington?

Nugent probably did enough the last two weeks to win the Cincy job.Redskins are good to go with Gano. The two players that will probably be on the shortest proverbial leash are:Matt Bryant: based on his missed PAT the other week and the Elam factorConnor Barth: simply because last year TB showed they are quick to pull the triggerBrown will be on the veteran call list along with Graham/Cundiff loser, Carney, and Stover.

Any feelings out there on who wins the HOU kicker job? Both are having great camps, with the edge going to Brown-mostly because of kick-off distance.

Kaeding in SD-- the addition of a young workhorse back helps the offense.. but he's moved down my list because of the (looks like) loss of Vincent J and LT McNeil holding out--the O might not hit on all cylinders.
Maybe this will mean more stalled TD drives that end in FG's?
Matt Bryant is a nice dome choice imo.
RE: SD... after watching them in preseason I changed my mind about the O and extent the holdouts will impact SD.. I was thinking the losses on OL and WR would stall the offense (possibly to the point of making SD just average)... but I think Rivers is the driving force Malcom Floyd fills in at least adequately (if not totally) for Vincent J... I didn't see any huge gaping hole on the OL w/McNeil not being in there... so SD O will (IMO) be able to move btwn the 20's well and provide lots of FG opportunities... infact they might actually be better in the redzone with a solid RB vs LT/Sproles last year.RE: ATL--I'm watching Bryant too.. last year he finished the final 4 games with 7 FG and 10 XPs... and I think ATL O will be improved from last year providing more opportunities.p.s. I agree with whoever said Hanson will be kicking in DET until his leg falls off. If DET ever cut him there would be rioting in the streets--he's arguably the team MVP over the past 10 years. Last year was his roughest year.. but in 2008 he was unbelievable.. 8-8 from 50+ and made 95.5% overall... and he's never once talked about leaving DET....He finishes in the bottom of the league in pts only because DET O has been SO terrible... however this year things should turn around as they're building talent and a solid foundation.. hopefully translating into more attempts for Hanson.
Jason Hanson is pretty much the Archie Manning of kickers, eh?-QG

Great, I have Bryant as my other kicker.Elam factor? And what is your outlook on Gano? Is he worth dropping Brown for is should I hold on to Brown and see where (if?) he ends up?

Elam factor?
Teams typically react to kicking issues based on their recent experiences. Such as, if a team goes with a rookie and it doesn't work out, then they're more likely to look for a veteran next time. Atlanta was patient (relative to the NFL) with Elam last year. As a result, they'll probably be less patient with Bryant (especially since he has less of a track record (relative to Elam)).

BALTIMORE

Since the battle is so close, Harbaugh is hoping a team in search of a kicker makes a trade offer, which would make the decision easier. But don’t count on it. “I’m quite certain whichever way we don’t go, he’ll be kicking for a team the next day,” Harbaugh said. “We would love to get a call from somebody. But they’ll probably wait, knowing that we’ve got to let one go and there will be a bidding war.”

Just take Graham Gano in the last round and thank me later. Guy is money on a team that should have a good defense (=good field position), and a struggling offense(more FGs than TDs).

great offense, good stadium, good leg - I'm in - have him in mostof my leagues and got him for $1 in each...not sure why more arent high on him

I completely forgot about this guy when we had our draft and I am thinking of dropping Prater for him. Dome kicker on a very good offense.

ok so its not just me. i was looking at rankings and hes quite low. on auction hes going for 1$. glad you guys agree

Grabbed him in the last round in 1 league. I like his chances to be a top tier kicker.

Went with Hartley in my other league.

I really liked Buehler earlier in the summer but he looked a lil shaky to me in pre-season. He was solid the last time out and he certainly has potential for a big season. He was snatched up by one of the several cowboy homers in my league. :X

But he's a kicker. Not reall gonna lose any sleep over missing out.

Picked him up as an early FA in a dynasty league to replace Scobee as my backup. I like what I've seen so far and he might even end up supplanting my starter, Gostkowski, at least on some weeks.

Fundamentals make him worth a flier, for sure, but NOBODY knows if the guy can actually make the kicks until he's thrown into the fire. You should give him about half as much slack on your roster as the Cowboys do.

I drafted him and am just going to see how it goes. He should get a lot of opportunities and if he stinks, no loss I'll just pick up someone else. I am surprised at how low he is ranked considering how potent the Dallas offense could be.

When drafting kickers, I generally just rank the NFL offenses from best to worst and use that as my kicker cheatsheet. I've got Dallas as a top 5 offense, so I've found myself winding up with Buehler in a lot of leagues this year.

I don't get the lack of respect for him in the ratings either. I guess the only downside is that he is a rookie. The offense in Dallas is definetly good enough to make him a top 5 kicker and if they don't live up to expectations I think their defense is good enough to make him maybe more valuable if the offense sputters in the red zone and they settle for field goals. I seem to remember Dallas teams of the past settling for a lot of field goals.

He's actually not a rookie. He's a second year player, he just spent most of last season kicking off instead of handling placekicking duties.
