The 50 Greatest Hair Albums EVER. (1 Viewer)

Cool video from one of the Buckeye Lake shows we worked,

And that's why we always had issues with the crowd. They wouldn't listen. We weren't even on par with rent-a-cops, we were all college dudes on steroids that played ball, loved to party, loved to fight and needed an easy paycheck. There were also a handful of Wade Garret type dudes that were just flat out badass. Life was all good when you stayed were you were supposed to be, meaning there was a line you didn't cross down by the stage. If you did, it was very clear what the outcome was going to be and for some reason the Dead heads didn't seem to give a ####. Think Japanese on a bonzai charge into a machine gun. Made no sense but hey, if you wanna push it we were more than happy to oblige ;-).

Keep in mind this was just down by the stage, if you were on the lawn or just enjoying the show in your seat, no worries. We never went into the crowd unless there was some catastrophic event going on (like seeing someone on the verge of getting killed or raped).

31. W.A.S.P. - The Last Command (1985) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7f/Lastcommand.jpg/220px-Lastcommand.jpg

As noted earlier, “Blind in Texas” and “Wild Child” place this album on any list. New Years Eve 2011 I consumed a little lysergic acid diethylamide and between that and this album, I was taken to places I never knew existed. My 3rd ex-wife and 3 other couples rented a limo and in the ghetto of Dayton, Ohio there is a place we call “The Dixie Strip” basically 10 strip joints within a mile radius. Good times. :banned:

1. Wild Child

2. Ballcrusher

3. Fistful of Diamonds

4. Jack Action

5. Widowmaker

6. Blind in Texas

7. Cries in the Night

8. The Last Command

9. Running Wild in the Streets

10. Sex Drive

Motley Crue and Priest were already doing their things, but the way I remember it Quiet Riot were the first ones through the door to the mainstream. Ive always looked at them getting the ball rolling on the pop metal thing.
I agree with that 100%. They hooked me early.

For full disclosure, other then Motley Crue pre Dr. feel-good, I thought most of this music was awful when I was in 8th grade in 89. I still hate 95% of it. It's intriguing to me that it's so popular to a bunch of you that I have big respect for music wise. I think the girls around that scene has clouded alot of dudes judgement of the quality of the actual music.
Sorry but Theater and Girls were not much better than most of what we're talking about here
They were harder which is the main reason. And Wild Side...
In '89 you got lambasted with Poison and Warrant and let yourself miss the good stuff like (slightly earlier) Ratt and Dokken. You want harder..

Since we're throwing out power ballads, I've always had a soft spot for Winger's Heading For A Heartbreak. Particularly the outro solo by Reb Beach.

Winger the band was pretty lame - classic case of the sum of the parts greatly exceeding the whole. But the musicianship ability across the band was top notch.

Some may not be big fans of these guys, but I am. DD takes the perfect amount of cheese and the perfect amount of hard to create a killer sammich. You can literally do anything to this album- drink, make love, drive fast with windows down, and all sorts of boarderline line illegal activities.

1. Naughty Naughty

2. Under the Gun

3. Saturday Nite

4. Don’t Walk Away

5. Bang Bang

6. Rock America

7. Boys Will Be Boys

8. One Step From Paradise

9. Feels Like Love

10. Turn It On

11. Live It Up

Beach and Winger drummer Rod Morgenstein are much respected players.

Just looking up Winger now ... Kip Winger, Beach, and Morgenstein -- with backing players -- still tour as Winger. Had no idea.

+1 for Headed for a Heartbreak.. I've met a number of non hair metal / indie snob types types who love that tune too

Morganstein was Dixie Dregs, mucho cred. Reb Beach has been everywhere, Dokken too for a while

Keyboardist Paul Taylor is also well respected. Didn't know that he played with Aldo Nova and was in the classic video for "Fantasy".

They must have been big fans of Jimmy Two Times from Goodfellas.

I have that Danger Danger album and there is no chance I'd listen to it before Long Cold Winter or New Jersey.

Bang Bang will make it into a playlist here and there more as a joke than anything. A couple others are ok but c'mon....Danger Danger? What's next, Trixter? Not feeling it, warsteiner

Maybe Warsteinder is ripping off Rolling Stone schtick.

This album helped round out the ear before we succumbed to the likes of Nirvana and the start of the Seattle grunge/alternative era. Great ballads and guitar riffs Bill and Ted would call most excellent.

1. Cruelty

2. Hostile Youth

3. Feel the Same Way

4. Freedom

5. God of 42nd Street

6. My Dog

7. Peppermint Tribe

8. Love Is on the Way

9. The Lizard

10. All Alright

11. Sleep

12. All I Want

13. Body Bags

14. Miss Jones

15. World Goes Round

16. Chanel
Guess we're getting the "best band named after a city a Vietnam" settled early.
Hanoi Rocks?

Yea, there were almost two era's of hair metal - harder stuff gave way to a more pop sound. It started changing around 86. Call it pre and post-poison.

But 83-86 were really good. Quiet Riot, Def Leppard, Crue, Ratt, Ozzy, Dokken, Y&T, etc.

29. Poison – Flesh & Blood (1990) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b7/FleshAndBloodOriginal.jpg/220px-FleshAndBloodOriginal.jpg

Not my favorite Poison album, but to paraphrase/steal a quote from Mr. David Wooderson “That’s what I like about these strippers, I get older, they stay the same age.” A decade ago a man didn’t have to worry about it, but nowadays good luck finding a chick in her early 20’s that digs this countdown. I always ease them in with this one and its smooth sailing from then on out.

1. Strange Days of Uncle Jack

2. Valley of Lost Souls

3. (Flesh & Blood) Sacrifice

4. Swampjuice

5. Unskinny Bop

6. Let It Play

7. Life Goes On

8. Come Hell or High Water

9. Ride the Wind

10. Don’t Give up an Inch

11. Something to Believe In

12. Ball and Chain

13. Life Loves a Tragedy

14. Poor Boy Blues

Poison's worst album of the era IMHO, unskinny bop makes me want to punch somebody.

I am with you. god I hate that song. It feels like it was written by a 13-year old.

I get Poison. They wrote catchy tunes. I have seen them a half-dozen times. While they were sloppy in the early years, they were fun. And, the broads are always out in full force at Poison shows.

Love Ride the Wind and Something to Believe In.

Really looking forward to dissecting the alltime great/top 20 albums. My opinion has evolved on some over the years as some have held up better than others for me.

Man I can't get behind 1984 being ranked lower than the likes of Danger Danger and Mr. Big...but that's just me.

Nope not just you. It's debatable that it should be even top 50 but I can see it. To be ahead of 1984, Skid Row, Twisted Sister...
