The Apple iPhone Thread (4 Viewers)

LIkely finally making the leap to iPhone4 here in a couple weeks. Curious about the 2GB data plan... realistically, how much data is that on an iPhone. I'm not likely going to be watching more than 10 mins of online video a day max. Most browsing is forums, social networking, etc. May occasionally stream pandora. Checking sports scores with ESPN apps... the usual. Is the 2GB mark going to be an issue?
Well to use myself as an example, I'm about 1.2gb a month. And I think I abuse my data time on my iPhone, I'm in safari alot during the day. (no desk job) So I'll be saving $5 a month if they decided to charge me $25 for 2gb. 2gb seems like plenty for the average Joe. (don't forget hooking to wifi at home saves me atnt time, but I hardly surf at home on my phone.)

Good info here guys, thanks. Office, Home, Folks Place all have wifi so not terribly worried about it now. Maybe streaming Pandora while driving sometimes (head unit has iPod interface) but even that I somehow don't see myself having probs.

Awesome.

But what about all the reports from last quarter?!?! They specifically said Android was roxor and iPhone was teh suxors. :)
This is the exact same report. Shows that RIM and WinMo are losing ground to these two. FYI, in case you were confused, market share doesn't mean something is awesome or sucks. HTH.Android is keeping it's steamrolling pace though, that's good to see.

AT&T updates iPhone upgrade dates for more customers

By Sam Oliver

Published: 08:50 AM EST

Ahead of Apple's anticipated next-generation iPhone announcement, AT&T again began moving some customers' upgrade eligibility dates forward to allow them to buy Apple's latest handset.

A number of users have reported that their eligibility for an iPhone upgrade has been updated, allowing them to buy Apple's next-generation iPhone as soon as it goes on sale, fully subsidized with a 2-year contract agreement. Apple is widely expected to announce its latest handset today, during a keynote from company co-founder Steve Jobs.

Customers can see their upgrade eligibility by logging into their account on the AT&T website and selecting "Check Upgrade Options." Upgrade status can also be checked by dialing *639# from the iPhone.

"As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee," AT&T's message to eligible iPhone owners reads.

Though U.S. iPhone customers must sign a two-year contract with AT&T in order to receive the iPhone at a subsidized price, the wireless carrier frequently offers faster upgrades for its highest paying customers. Those with more services and a higher monthly bill typically are not required to wait the full two years before they become eligible.

AT&T previously revealed that generally speaking, customers who spend more than $99-a-month per line are eligible for an upgrade between 12 and 18 months into their contract.

The latest round of upgrades follow previous updates by AT&T in May, when some users saw their upgrade eligibility date moved up by months, to June 21, 2010.

Moving up customers' upgrade dates is the same approach AT&T has taken in the past. Last year, the wireless carrier offered early iPhone 3G adopters the opportunity to purchase an iPhone 3GS as the same $199 and $299 price points as new customers.

Another strange thing I noticed. With Netflix App, it was mentioned how the app can stream 3G but if you're on 3G with the new ATT plans (no unlimited), how are you going to use this app on 3G? Maybe another network is in store that has an unlimited/different plans.

He just showed that mobile browser usage has iPhone at 50+% and android at 22.7%. In other words, a lot of people are about to get roughed up by the ATT data caps.

Doubt many users are over the 2 gig cap. More a result of sheer numbers, user demographic and ease-of-use.
