The Apple iPhone Thread (6 Viewers)

I printed out a template from a few sources, but when I measure the screens diagonally, they all are barely 5" on the 6+ (and 4.25" on the 6.) Is this like TV's, where a 40.5" screen is a "42-inch" class TV? Or am I getting bad templates?

I love my wallet-backed case for my 5. I just carry my phone, 3 credit cards, DL and a $20 bill. My fear is going to a 6+ means going back to carrying a wallet, because a similar case for the 6+ would add even more size to an already big phone.
uncheck fit to paper or something like that when you print

Think about the thickness. I just purchased a couple of iPod Touch 5s for my kids a couple weeks ago, and they were incredibly thin (If I read correctly somewhere that they are about the thickness of the new 6s.) They felt like you could snap them in half easily. After putting them in a fairly sturdy case, they were better.

So with the larger phone, you may be able to get that stuff in a smaller space and not make the new phone as big. :2cents:

ok so att will give me $200 for my 5and I don't have to worry about anything else, definitely doing the 6+ 64gb.
WHAT'S THIS NOW??? :excited:
yep, just talked to them. dial **attbb from your phone, then listen through the prompts. They then text you a link to your phone that takes you to a site that detects what is up with your phone. The guy at the store told me to just select their store during the preorder and then bring in the phone next friday to swap out.
Is that only if you sign up with that ATnT next plan? The kid I was talking to was rambling and barely understandable while rushing me off the phone, saying something like the contracts are basically worthless and I thought he mentioned the trade in with the Next plan.

ACTUAL REAL INFORMATION ALERT:

HEADS UP ON POTENTIAL 6+ SCREEN "ISSUE"

Looks like the 6+ is using a 87% downsample to size the 3x render to the screen's dimensions. This could result in VERY slight anti-aliasing instead of pixel perfect rendering we've traditionally seen. That said while it's less than ideal, given the pixel density of these screens, I'd be amazed if it's even remotely noticeable.

MORE RAM IN THE 6+?

GSM Arena is reporting the 6+ features 2GB RAM vs 1GB RAM in the 6

Just digging up on more info across the web before making the final call and pre-ordering tomorrow... figured I'd share with those who are also making the decision.

Drawbacks:

1) Sprint's network

2) I thought they throttled you back to 2G data after either 2 or 3GB of useage? Or was that TMobile?
That's Tmobile

Agree on #1 - which is why I'm switching from Sprint...but thought I'd point it out
What is a non-discounted iphone? Does that mean full price, and nothing subsidized?

The Phablet

You will have noticed throughout this post I have not mentioned the even larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Apple is expected to announce, and that is with good reason: no-one will try to use it like an existing iPhone.

Like it or not, there is a threshold to phone size. Some will say it is the 4-inches of the iPhone 5/5S, others that it is 4.7-inches or even 5.2-inches if the bezels are as compact as the LG G2. Regardless of where the threshold lies, 5.5-inches is beyond it. Samsung Galaxy Note owners, for example, love their phablets and often say they do the job of both phone and tablet but they dont pretend it is a standard phone.

That part of the guy's article is about as bad as any of the "my opinion on phones is the only one that's right" posts in this thread IMO.

It really comes off as kind of insulting to us Note users. "They love their phones, would never want to go back to a smaller one, but they're just idiots. They're wrong. It's too big."

But maybe I'm just misreading what he's saying.

I think there's a good chance that if he'd spent the last 5 months on a note instead of the nexus, he'd be writing how there might be other adjustments to make, but they are also worth it in the end.

What does that even mean that no one will try to use the 6+ like an existing iPhone?

View phones in actual size on screen here

1) Calibrate your screen

2) Bring up 2-3 phones to compare.

3) Wala

Ugh... now considering the 6 again

Settled... Buying in-store because I can exchange in-store ($35 restocking fee within 14 days). Going to try the 6+ for 10 days (travelling to fL and New Orleans on back to back weekends) and if It's truly too big? I'll just swap down to the 6 when I get back from NOLA. I Do have to buy in store though, or risk slow postal service exhange (days/weeks with no phone).

FINAL ANSWER.

No, I'm doing this with a 2 year contract

Does your note fit in your front pocket?

Any Android owners contemplating a switch to the iPhone 6 or 6+, specifically Galaxy S4 or 5 owners. I'm up for an upgrade and have been a loyal Android owner for the past 4 years but find the iPhone 6 some what intriguing. Any pros and cons vs Androids phones such as Samsung's Galaxy's or HTC's
Went from Apple to Android several years ago and can't imagine going back to an iPhone. The wife recently was given an iPhone for work after dumping their blackberries and she is dumbfounded as to why anyone prefers the iPhone's over the better Droids.

And yes its the little things like widgets, swype, ok google or always listen, universal usb cables, battery life, google now, app integration, ability to choose default apps, customization, multiple accounts (just learned the importance of this one), and on and on and on
BS. You've been ripping the iPhone since the day it came out.
Been ripping on it since it was no longer the superior phone and Apple users were acting as if it was. I am different than some Android users, I actually want Apple to put out a far superior product so that it spurns competition, this way the consumer wins. Sadly Apple has not put out a phone that comes close to its Android counterparts in years and nothing has changed over the past few days.
I just have to laugh at this. There's literally no way my parents could deal with an Android phone. I'm sure the tech specs, apps, widgets, are better, but getting it to work and more importantly getting any non-tech person comfortable on the device is an entirely different matter. My dad was an IBM programming engineer/manager for years, but god forbid he try to get a Dell machine to sync with an Android phone these days. He got a MacBook Air ("best" and " easiest" computer he's ever had and when he has a question he goes to the Apple Store to get training) and now can use the iPhone/iPad. That's the value. You can pu pu the specs or their "following" nature, but Apple's managed to figure out how to manage their ecosystem better than anyone to everyday consumer.
Oh c'mon. :bs:

Everything syncs with google. You sign into your google account on your new phone, tablet etc all of your apps are DL'd, all of your music is right there etc etc its simple. You do not have to customize a thing if you do not want to and adding a widget is as simple as adding an app. If your parents cant do that I dont know what to tell you.
PS/2 and OS/2. Think about it.

I still have no idea what size to get.
On the fence as well. With the better battery life and better camera features, the 6plus seems to be the better choice. A bit nervous about the size though and ability to carry it around comfortably. Wish Apple would have at least had them in their store to touch prior to the pre sale.

Some of you guys carry your phones in your back pocket?
ya, that seems very odd to me. never thought about putting my phone in my back pocket.
I've always kept my iphone in my back pocket.
don't you ever sit on it by mistake?
It doesn't really go so low under my ### that I sit on the entire thing. But yeah, it's in my back pocket just like a wallet. Never had a problem sitting down.

Gone back and forth between 6 and 6+, and decided that I use my phone with one hand so much that I think the 6+ isn't practical for me. It's pretty much impossible to get to both the home button and the top of the screen with my thumb on one hand. I know Apple addressed that issue with the double tap screen pull down, but it seems that having to go through those extra steps just so I can reach the top of the screen would be annoying.

i think apple will make the double tap work seamlessly. the best thing they do is make things simple and user friendly. even the 6+ isn't super wide so it can be gripped and the bottom half can be used one handed. it's too big for a back pocketer though.

I've read countless reviews and done tons of research on screen size difference (I'm overly anal). Everything I've seen states that very few people have ever regretted going to a bigger screen. Even though it may take a few days to get used to the difference, supposedly the increase in size is worth it.

I printed out a replica 6+ and made it into a cardboard cutout. It will fit in the back pocket...and will fit in a front pocket too (normal jeans).

Mind you it's not the most comfortable thing when in the front pocket...especially when sitting...but it works.

i would just be too worried about having phone in back pocket. sit on it by mistake, have it fall out and not notice, etc.

People that keep saying you'll want the bigger one may be going too far here. That's been the case for the last 5 years or so, sure, but at some point, it's gotta just be too big for a phone. Certainly, convenience-wise. I have a feeling we've reached that point. I mean you gotta be kidding me, needing two hands to use your phone (tablet)? I understand it for gamers and movie watchers, sure, but if you don't do that stuff, then I'd rather not carry a typewriter around.
