The Apple iPhone Thread (14 Viewers)

Does Apple still have visual voicemail?

I get about 30 vmails a day for my job and one of the main reasons I'm thinking of switching back is lack of visual voicemail on Android.

The apps they've created suck....and I've tried them all.

Reason 19,399 I'm happy to be ditching CSpire.

Updated iOS8. PHone was laggy as ####.. wouldn't send texts, etc. WTF.

Fired up teh Googles.... hrm. Finally call CSpire. Oh yeah... when you updated it screwed up some settings on our end. 3 mins.... reboot phone. Fine. Then I recall when I upped to iOS7 I had to call them to get stuff fixed too. Weak ### provider.

iP5 works fine with iOS8. No additional lag or anything. Downloading swiftkey to test it out.

They do
Good stuff. You apple honks take for granted how awesome this feature is. It's important to me enough to make the switch I think.

Just when I thought I was out...

FYI Verizon is granting early upgrades for the iPhone 6....
How? I have an upgrade coming on 10/9 and they told me I could not pre-order and had to wait until the 9th. As an aside, I was in the store on day one of pre-orders and ordered a 6 for my wife who already had an upgrade available. Her current ship date is 10/7. The Verizon rep said they get shipments, but won't know when or how many (due to security reasons, she said), but said I may be able to get one in stock on the 9th.
You are eligible.... It's anyone eligible on or before November 15th! Call back:

http://www.businessinsider.com/verizon-iphone-6-early-upgrade-promotion-2014-9

"As a special thank you to our existing customers, all Verizon customers who would be eligible to upgrade on or before November 15th have had their upgrade dates changed to become upgrade eligible immediately. These customers can now upgrade to any device currently in our lineup, with new two year contract. Customers should check My Verizon to confirm upgrade eligibility."
Thanks again for the heads up on this. Called Verizon today and placed my order. Its not set to arrive until 10/21, but I am guessing this is much earlier than if I'd waited until 10/9 to initiate the upgrade. I will lose my unlimited data plan, but they offered to replace it with a 6GB plan for a penny more than I am paying for unlimited per month. I doubt I will eer get close to the 6GBs. Now, to see if folks are getting theirs earlier than projected.

I bet they did. You could have sold your unlimited plan on Ebay. They are going for even more than when I sold mine. 1 line is going for $500.

Cspire now had another screwup showing my line was disconnected, resulting in no ability to make calls or use data. Called them, they had me down as requesting to disconnect. Nope. Same thing that happened with iOS7 update. So strange. not iPhone/iOS related... just a hillbilly carrier issue.

Anyways... finally got it up and running but now my data speeds are 0.15-0.25Mbps  Asked the lady if that was typical "ummm...no..... maybe move around?" Informed her I'm in my same seat I've been in for a year... no change. It was slow before (sub 1Mbps) but this is absurd. Thank god my VZW iPhone 6 will be here tomorrow morning....

This one will be :moneybag: on the too big 6+....

45. Desktop WebsitesSafari on iOS is so good, it’s a shame we have to occasionally put up with stripped-down mobile sites that were seemingly designed for another era (or at least another phone). In iOS 8, Apple has put an end to it once and for all; just tap on the address bar to bring up the favorites screen in Safari, then pull down on the window and you'll get an option to request the desktop version of whatever site you're visiting.

In 20 years, unlimited data plans will be :moneybag:

That's my normal speed with Sprint. Last night at my house - .65/.78.

That new predictive typing is a little strange. I can see it being beneficial once I get more used to it. But I've sent about 10 texts today using it and I feel like I sent out 10 form letters. Very impersonal. Maybe that's just because it's new to me.

Just when I thought I was out...
I've used Google Voice in the past and never set this up. Do I have to pay Sprint an additional monthly fee for this service? When I go to voicemail it dials into a voicemail number the old school way, and none of the options are relevant to visual voicemail.

When I tap the voicemail button on my Sprint phone it shows me a list of voicemails and then I select the one I want and hit play. I never dial in. I didn't even know that was an option.

:goodposting:

Couldn't imagine dialing into voicemail the old school way. I guess I've just taken this for granted as how voicemail operates now.

Yeah, I use Google Voice, so I've never used the native iPhone voicemail. I'd like to move away from GVoice and use visual voicemail but I'm shuked.

Google voice? Google voice is ok, good enough for me so I know if I need to listen right away. How accurate is Apple's visual voicemail compared to Google voice?

Is this a joke? Android fanboys were talking about widgets and they don't even have visual voicemail?
And their OS / hardware are still antiquated 32 bit tech... but that's neither here nor there.

This is an iPhone thread

Visual voice mail is good for someone who gets a lot of messages. You don't have to dial any number to listen to your vmail and don't have to listen to every one in consecutive order.... Can skip around.

Also, since I travel a lot for work its nice to be able to record an out of office message within a few seconds as opposed to dialing in and going through command prompts.

Been playing with swiftkey... pretty solid. Definitely a learning curve...
Me too. Any reason to actually link it to your gmail, or Facebook? Seems odd.
it might be to collect keyboard data from your use in those apps to improve overall predictive text accuracy.... not sure positive though.

Why the #### is it so difficult to put a "close all apps" button in the App Switcher. Plenty of real estate. Plenty of need. WTFWTFWTFWTF

QUESTION

wife has iphone 4s, can we back that up to itunes,m thenm restore it to the 6+ without upgrading the old phone to ios8, or do we have to upgrade it?

For those that upgraded to iOS 8 via USB connected to computer, how long did it take? I'll have a window of about an hour this afternoon, but if it's longer, I'll have to wait until later tonight.

I'm hoping to get the phone on Saturday after my cancelling of ATT and reworking stuff with Verizon. Normal 6 with 64GB.

What are the odds I will be able to get it on Saturday/Sunday? I am in a metropolitan area.

mHow do you guys have $60 bills from Verizon?

Mine was always 120. One line, one phone.
Check out the website:Single line plan:

2GB data w/ unlimited talk/text : $60 ($15/GB overage)

Basically it's the $60 1GB plan with 1 free Gb of data. It's a beast of a plan I found while prepping to move over to the iPhone 6.

Talking to some reps, it's specifically timed for

the iPhone 6 launch to steal customers.... It's

working. It's a pretty exceptional plan for one of the big two.Think I can switch to this after I get the phone?

Yes

Wouldn't a phone purchased from Verizon only be able to be used on the Verizon network, since it is a CDMA not a GSM phone?

Phones don't need protective covers like they used to...they're much more durable. Going without a cover, especially with phones this size, is the call imo.

OMG, I got a scratch on my phone I'm getting rid of in two years. :lmao: It's not a Porsche.
