I'm angry not happy for any of these victims. Their childhood innocence stripped and a life of nightmares and trauma that never fully heals. This is a sad day for men in this country as well. Why is it when a great % of men are given control or power and the ability to lead, instead they choose to exploit and create a horrific situation. I wish we could get a better profile and be more open about the types of people that most of these criminals tend to be or appear in prisons once we arrest them. Every day they should have to go thru endless tests to see where exactly they have such a hole in their brain. 

They will check the pitcher twice a game in MLB right now , they seem to care more about that then looking out for our children. The amount of lifelong suffering these folks must have to experience, I'm sure the suicide rate in these people must be higher than normal. 

Why do men behave this way and I might add they have been doing this #### for thousands of years going all the way back to early civilization. How come some men have a primal urge to sexually assault young boys and men trying to find their way in this world? I think suicide for the mentally disturbed sexual assaulters should always be an option and they should know they can hit that button anytime they want. 

I'm just venting so please if you do have boys that managed to not be exposed to these things, more power to you. I was an alter boy in Catholic Church/School growing up and I am fortunate that our priest looked like this guy who played the lead priest in the Exorcist, not a bad looking fellow and he was too busy being invited to dinners every night by different women in the church, we weren't really his type thankfully. 

If you happened to be a victim growing up as a child, teenager, my heart goes out to you. There seems to also be a pattern of when it happens to a victim, sometimes they grow up to be the assaulters and that's something we need to take better steps to preventing.

And that's why I put this up to discuss and do it in a forum where we can feel free to say pretty much what we like. 

-I'm not going to sugarcoat it, and it's not restricted to boys, the girls are hunted by the Epsteins crawling up out of the suers as well. I think we need to start having a lot more checks and balances and we give adults the freedom to scream rape these days if someone even lays a finger on them...doesn't seem like the most vulnerable have that same kind of concern from the powers that be. Now why is that?

Are powerful men in this country, do they have their hands deep into this stuff? Are the lawmakers and leaders of this country actually part of the problem? And a big one if it's true of course. We must take new steps and active measures like the kind this country was able to whip up to fight the pandemic. This is a crisis as well with long lasting ramifications that hurt this country and ends up impacting other events later on.

We're not talking about a tiny fraction of the population, there are some serious wires that get criss crossed in the journey of life apparently. This wasn't an isolated incident, it ran rampant, own it. 

Maybe it's not a good idea for men to take boys into the woods any more. We're going to have get more Women Scout leaders to take care and look after our young adults and children. 

Women would never to this to an innocent child, right? And the point is neither gender gets a free pass on this. It has to be done collectively by adults and we just might need to declare War on Sexual Assault of a Minor...it's not good enough to just run some lip service and pay out $850 Million. You'll be paying it again if you don't think about serious changes.

Youth pastors, scout leaders, priests, etc are all opportunities for sickos to take advantage of getting private time with kids.  I am glad some travel sports will make parents take courses to see the signs.  It’s on us to keep our eyes open and law enforcement to have zero tolerance.

Only time I knowingly crossed paths with a pedophile as a kid was at the National Scout Jamboree. If things had gone a little differently that day while I was walking a forested path between camps, my entire life could have been very different. I mourn for the victims of child sexual abuse and the part of their souls forever destroyed by these despicable abusers.

Institutions like the Boy Scouts or the Catholic Church want to protect their own interests, I doubt it has anything to do with politics.

The answer to this for me is money and power (not politics) - if you have it and/or you work for an organization that has a lot to lose then you can get protected.  Unfortunately, that seems to be the case across all kinds of criminal activity.

We found something we both feel strongly about and on the same side of the fence, that never happens. 

This type of behavior has to stop. The criminal justice system is not working. We seem to have grass movements for everything in this country. At what point are we going to start trying to defend and protect the ones that cannot defend and protect themselves. Children stand little to no chance of being able to defend off an adult, that's why they typically pick on and go after children. 

Do you have any ideas on some things that should be done or can be done to make a real impact?

Children do get a lot of attention when it comes to other things in the "Safety" world but there again its mostly companies capitalizing on it and using it more for marketing than protection. But when it comes to sexual abuse everyone wants to look the other way.

We have to seek these people out even if it hurts and we find some of the people we liked are not good people when it comes to this topic or subject.

OK here we go and I'll tell you why...because he folks who make the laws and figure out the number of years...some of them are pedophiles too or have a relative they know they will be putting away for life soon if they make the penalties too hard. That's my take on this, the corruption goes so high and if Epstein and that mess doesn't show you that rich people can be just as evil if not worse, don't assume wealthy people don't partake in this because they do. It's a major problem in getting the tide turned on this issue.

The people who could make the biggest impact turn a blind eye mostly, why? 

Is there a government task force that works solely on this issue right now? Child protective services needs an overhaul as well.

I like the rules where adult supervisors have to be monitored constantly by other adult supervisors and they are never allowed to be alone with kids.   Basically the supervisors should have to work on a buddy system.

besides domination ("because i can"), my best figuring has two reasons behind pedo. neither are in the public discussion because society doesnt want to discuss either. first is a confusion of oxytocin, the hormone which originally kept higher mammals from killing their young and causes us to fuss over babies and children. since it is a hormone triggered by visual stimuli, as is testosterone, it is fatally likely for the two to be conflated among our impulses. we neither explore nor discuss this because giving it ANY credence would give pedophilia a "justification", mostly because gay people have been using a hormonal fallacy to defend their actual natural proclivity for a generation now. how's that for a conversation starter?

the other might be even more hotly contested. people molest children for the same reason they anthropomophize their pets - the search for unqualified, unaffected, uncomplicated love. it is no coincidence that, the more complex and multivaried love & sex options have become (especially with the public space becoming an everless respectable place to pursue romantic impulse), the more invested in pet adoration we've been. though fond of animals, i am startled and often sickened how much romantic investment i find in a growing number of pet relationships. my unmarried sister is in such mourning for her recently-departed last pet that she would be wearing naught but black in a different time. i put it to you that children were the original proxies in this regard, with somehow less stigma against it crossing over into sexual expression. 

wikkid's thought way too much about this, hasn't he? though personally unmolested - though i well remember the "ice cream priests" of my Catholic youth - i come by the interest honestly. my wife was not only regularly raped by her natural father from age 8, but traded like a baseball card to other Wisconsin countryclub pervdads. she became a psych nurse and was always helping one or another of Reno's hollowed adults make better peace with themselves, something i took over a little bit when she got sick. i've read journals of my Mary's counselees that haunt my dreams 30 yrs later.

the problem goes unsolved for the same reason all sex crimes do - our legal system is designed to make it hard for single-witness charges to convict white men of good standing - multiplied by the nature of children "secret world"s

I grew up loving the scouts and won our pack pinewood derby and got to go to the fairgrounds to compete in a state competition.  That was a big deal to a young kid.  I was also an altar boy who was one of the lucky ones to not be molested even though we had AT LEAST 2 pedo priests during my time serving as an altar boy...lastly as a tween I idolized Bill Cosby because he was a great story teller who didnt have to curse every other word like so many comedians do.  Basically the things I loved as a child turned out to be horrible and looking back on my past that makes me really sad.

I am currently a Boy Scout leader.  I have to take training in Youth Protection. I require a background check.  

Requirement on outings are 2 adults and 1 kid or 2 kids and 1 adult in any small area.  The only child I can be with one on one is my own.  This goes for emails and texts also.

We just got back from US Virgin Islands sailing trip.  2 adults and 6 boys.  

I was a scout growing up and never knowingly came across any wrong doing.
