The Curse of Oak Island (1 Viewer)

I saw a commercial tonight that reminded me of this show. Can someone give me the cliff notes if what they are trying to sell us on now? I saw they had a scuba diver. Are they looking somewhere else?

So is this a scuba diver who will plop into 6" of muck?  Didn't they do that already?  History has aired nothing but Oak Island reruns, best ofs and other variations of the same stuff for the last week to get us pumped to watch them not find anytyhing again.

IT'S BACK AND I'M IN!!!! :towelwave:   God knows they will never find anything, but I'm hooked.

Wow, come to think of it, it's almost like a really bad Friday fishing trip.

Watching episode 4 from earlier this week. Some of the stuff they’re finding is pretty interesting, but it’s certainly not treasure.

I think that's the attitude needed for this show for long haul viewership.  I think the historical findings interesting, but some of the very loose ways they tie things together is annoying (but I've learned to funnel that out mostly).  The structural findings of the past year-ish or so are also interesting.

Still going? Surprised!
Seriously.  This show has become a running joke in my household.  We were hooked for about 2 seasons.  You almost feel dirty when you look back at what's happened and all the "stuff" they've found.  (full disclosure, I haven't watched the last 2 or 3 seasons at all, so if they've found something more interesting, maybe I retract that)

If I hear one more thing about these %^$&# permits I'm going to scream.  So they're making historical, archaeological finds in Smith's Cove and some government entity just says "too bad, time's up!"?  They can't apply for an extension???

Because governments are usually rational and logical?

$5 says that the Money Pit was originally constructed by William Shakespeare to contain the coronavirus, and this gaggle of shaft-loving morons set it loose upon the world through their shenanigans.

Yup, first thing I said was they didn't even mention trying to extend it or what the language is that doesn't allow them to.

What the heck happened?  They followed the Heddon (sp) Shaft all the way down and then... nothing?  With that and Shaft 2 located (along with Shaft 6 from last year, right?) they HAD to be zeroed in on the right spot.

Man just watched this weeks episode last night, the first 30 minutes the way they were moving it looked like they might really be on to something, then.....pfffttt !!

Looks like one or two more episodes left to make a find then winter sets in and given the state of things right now will there even be a next season ?

They missed their chance to easily solve this before Dan Blankenship died.   The curse is that 7 need to die while searching for the treasure, the current death toll is 6.  Dan should have come out of retirement for one last dig into the money pit.  Something "happens" and now the island has its 7th dead.  The real money pit then opens itself up and we find all of Al Capone's treasure that Geraldo thought he was going to find back in the 80s.

I am really hoping that they eventually do find treasure only everything is full of holes and completely smashed from all their digging and coring.

Yeah that always cracks me up, one guy thinks it's the lost works of Shakespeare, and they just drill through it, another guy thinks it's the Templar Treasure with possibly the Ark of the Covenant down there, just drill through it!  Hey religions of the world look what we found!  Oh don't mind that hole straight through the center, no big deal!

Al Capone’s vault was amazing TV. Oh look, we found a glass and what looks to be a wrapper of some sort. Imagine what may have been in there long ago. So much fun watching him try to make something of it.

Honestly, Geraldo and the vault are basically why this show is still on the air. As much of an actual bust Capone’s vault was, it had 30 million viewers. That’s about what the Cosby show got each week as the highest rated show.

I’m reading a forum of my favorite football team and there is on OT topic on Oak Island. I have to read it and here is the opening comment. Take it for what it’s worth. The thread started early this morning.

“For anyone that watches the History Channel show Curse Of Oak Island… my nephew works for Choice Sonic Drilling that does lots of the drilling work on the island. Supposedly they finally hit big on something a few days ago.. They haven’t even announced a Season 9 is upcoming, but obviously it is and apparently they finally got the big find or finds they have been working towards.”

Without the revenue from the show they would have sunk way more into this thing than anything they could potentially find.

I’ve mentioned this before, I have a degree in archeology and, at this point, the show is fascinating from the perspective of an archeologist. They have absolutely already justified all of their hard work based on just what they found in terms of the colonial and precolonial construction.

I could give a #### if they find treasure so long as they keep uncovering some of the things they are already working on.
