The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (1 Viewer)

What's with the full name? Anti Semitic or do you think that's meaningful in some way? I doubt you refer to John Wayne as Marion Morrison so signs point to the former
Pretty common doucher move to belittle the subject. Much the same way these guys talk about Barack Hussein Obama.

I think Joel McHale would be a really good host for the show. He would pull in the right demographic. He has the sarcastic personality that would work well and he is very likeable.

I'd give him a chance.

Virtually no chance but I'd love to see what Aziz Ansari or Jim Gaffigan would do with the show.

Don't know if I'd watch but Jason Jones has probably the best chance of taking over IMO.

Yep, that's it. I really hate the 25% part of myself that's Semitic. You figured it out.

I have always thought it was humorous that actors and musicians feel compelled to represent themselves as something they are not, going so far as to alter their identities. So I guess the rule here now is that we're only allowed to use stage names, not given names?

Did you plagiarize this from the Belmont Club?
LOL!

It is what it is. I'm not one of those horrible, billionaire Koch Brothers. Which blogs/organizations have you participated in/donated to?

Sucks indeed but knew it was going to happen eventually. Been a long run. Wonder if the "new" guy (Klepper) might be who they consider to replace him...if indeed they do. Maybe the show ends and a new one begins, just like Colbert to Nightly Show.

Stewart has consistently been the "go-to" news anchor for many of the 18-35 demographic. Polls have shown that for years. The timing is perfect but it would be one helluva risk for NBC to pull the trigger on that. Then again, if Stewart doesn't do well as a serious network news anchor, NBC could always pull the plug after 6 months and claim that Stewart was a temporary fill-in for Williams.

I like the McHale idea, or Amy Poehler.Ansari or Gaffigan seem weird, they don't seem like fits to me for some reason, although I can't explain why I think that.

Another good idea I saw on the Twitters last night- Hannibal Burress. He might be too goofy looking for a late night job, even a fake news one, but his style is a perfect fit.

Bring it Amy Poehler and Tina Fey!

Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz is stepping down?!?!? OH NOES!!!! :(

Where are millions of snarky, millennial progressives going to get their news?
There is no end to the number of smart, funny people willing to make fun of anti-progressives. It's a target-rich environment. Shows like Stewart's do a lot of damage to the traditionalists, whose political views put them automatically at odds with huge percentages of young voters anyway.

Have to disagree here.

Using his full name can be appropriate and interesting for those that don't know his full name. I had no idea about either John in this case and find both name changes to be of interest.

For the record: I enjoy the work of both John Stewart and Wayne and was unaware they were using aliai.

The thought of the 2016 election without Colbert and Stewart is very depressing.

You're up John Oliver. Tons of pressure on you now.

Wish he was on CC instead of HBO. Never seen a reason to pay for HBO...free weekends, hardly ever tune in/record anything on. I already pay enough (too much) to Directv. Not about to pay more.

Colbert AND Stewart. This sucks.
I haven't caught the new Nightly Show yet. How is that?
It stinks
I really like Larry, but I'm having trouble staying interested.
Yeah it's disappointing. Very little funny. Maybe it will get better, but the round table just doesn't do it for me. No longer DVRing as of this week.
Jessica Williams might be able to hold her own hosting a show. Still trying to figure out which team she plays for.

She can play for my team anytime

Adored by the generation raised with grade inflation, that was awarded prizes for just showing up, was constantly assured they have no weaknesses only "lesser strengths", and have record numbers still living at home with mom and dad.

That's quite an accomplishment. :tebow:

I don't watch Game of Thrones or Boardwalk Empire so there isn't much on HBO anymore that keeps me coming back. I've pretty much gravitated to Showtime's shows the past few years.

Do you know about Archie Leach?

We could argue the merits about the Millennials some other time but the immediate point is that they comprise the largest block of future voters. They think differently about the country's affairs than you do and sneering at them isn't going to convert them to your way of thinking.

My argument may be redundant because I seem to remember you already waving the white flag in the past. If that's accurate, then sneering really is all you have left. Carry on then.

Hey, cut them some slack. The segregationist, misogynistic homophobic war-mongerers of the previous generation were a hard act to follow.

I don't know if any of the names mentioned (such as Jason Jones or McHale) have the gravitas that Stewart had, and was needed at times. It would be a different show without that, but I guess it will be a different show no matter what.

Someone like Mo Rocca could probably pull it off, but his time hosting cooking shows on the Food Network and at CBS Sunday Morning may have taken his subversiveness down too much.

The Baby Boomers were once the hippies. Young people always think differently about the world, at least until they get older. Then their views diversify a bit.Older people making fun of kids and young adults is a time-honored tradition. I wouldn't get too bent out of shape about it.

Is Olivia Munn a serious option? I would DVR that. It would be awesome if she did it as Sloan Sabbath with the Sorkin dialougue the entire time.

Nor your self loathing.

what's great about Stuart is that alongside the sarcasm is something earnest and believable... so far, McHale (who I like a lot on the Soup) hasn't shown much more than snark (which works given the material).

what about one of the former SNL Updates anchors? Kevin Nealon or Norm McDonald?

The bitterness in your tone is ironic considering that Stewart is basically doing you a favor.

what about one of the former SNL Updates anchors? Kevin Nealon or Norm McDonald?
Nealon is 20 years removed from doing Weekend Update, and he was never that good at it in the first place.

Norm McDonald was funny, but he's not mainstream enough to carry a network show. Remember his recent "Sports Show" that flopped??

I don't remember anything.

now that I think about it... funny, yet earnest- Chris Hardwick (@midnight and Talking Dead) could be a good fit.

Nobody thought the guy who did the John Stewart show on MTV was a particularly likely choice to lead the Daily Show to a 17 year run as a cultural institution either.
fair enough.

that said- it is an institution now... so IMO much less wiggle room to make a new show/character out of it. but I'm happy to proven wrong by a new insightful and funny host with few similarities to Stuart.

This guy makes coffee nervous.

Hardwick's podcast is tough for me to listen to. The aforementioned earnestness, and his way of using up too much of the oxygen in the conversations.
