right now, what Disney has is an internal personnel problem that is over bubbling the pot.
Even back when I worked for the company back in the mid-90's there were a large % of openly gay Cast Members. Disney was always very pro-LGBTQ with their hiring and was one of the very few large corporate enterprises that discriminated even through their senior leadership.
However since then, Disney as a company has grown almost too large.
If you really look at their business property map it would blow your mind. Likewise, with most of it being in entertainment, you naturally attract a large percentage of talent that also happens to be LGTBQ.
Over the years there has been a push for more inclusivity in all aspects of life—both in sexual orientation and non-caucasion representation—and with Disney being such a large and visible (and wildly profitable), of course they have become a target and a company ripe for "wokeness"
Now add in a CEO who is brand new and not very well liked, plus a few years where EVERY business was on the brink of dearth and are struggling to reinvent themselves in the pandemic world, and now this (intentionally) controversial bill. All of it equals a recipe where the the employees feel more embolden then the management and are making demands that are eating away at the corporate core structure.
As anyone who knows me, I am a huge fan, I worked in the parks and in corporate, our family owns/invests in their resort timeshare, we go to the parks often, I have a ton of Disney crap in my office, and I pretty much follow the day-to-day operations. However I can see the cracks starting to form.
What stated out as introducing more inclusion, has become "the only way/SOP" and IMO their last selection of movies has not been overly entertaining to me b/c the narratives have become more current events. I know that the latest movie, Encato's music has hit massive ratings, but years ago we were saying the same thing about the Frozen soundtrack. Yes, I understand that princesses and evil queens do not exist, but there is fantasy in there. Even through the 90's of their animation, the Lion King and Aladdin era movies, were about family, overcoming obstacles, living up to who you were supposed to be (or not be). I know. sappy.
Now they are more focused on cultural shifting and making choices solely on diversity. Almost waving it in conservatives faces. And i'm not saying its bad, but some choices in casting and subjects IMO have been made explicitly for minorities and no one else. And this may not be a popular opinion, but with huge entertainment companies like Disney openly only casting ethnic and minority actors (for many years now, not just today), all while minority actors are still complaining that there is no opportunities out there for them wears thin after a while. Which one is it?
Regardless of the current situation, I still support Disney as a company. Just like any company they will have their ups and downs and some will hang on for the ride, some will bail and new fans will be added. I think they need to seriously reshape leadership, but with some who will be sympathetic to their CM's but still be able to manage on a corporate level.
