The Footballguys Bowl! - Was "Interest In A Footballguys Subscriber League?" (1 Viewer)

First things first - The Footballguys Contest We've Had For Years Will Be Back Again. 2023 thread here. It's super fun and people love it. All good.

I have had lots of people over the years though ask for an additional contest. One where premium subscribers can all be in a tournament. The pool is organized into 12 team leagues and they have a regular draft and then play out the season like a regular fantasy league setting lineups each week and adding players from the waiver wire and playing weekly head to head matchups.

Then playoffs and then a champion is crowned.

Similar to Scott Fish Bowl.

I think it would be a lot of fun and more like "normal fantasy football".

Like the Subscriber Contest, a free entry would be part of the Premium Subscription.

And also, important note: This is still in the idea phase.

I'm not sure it can happen. I first wanted to gauge interest here to see if folks would be into it.

Seems like they are.

I might scare up the $ just for this. Seriously lemme know if it is on because I’m in like Flynn if y’all do this.

:moneybag: I'm sure there will be lots of side action going on. For us, there won't be prize money, just fame.

A ridiculously huge trophy and custom name display for the forums. (Side Note - if we do this, a shark pool poster BETTER win this thing as much as I brag on y'all to the Staff).

We would make it super fun.

I'm a freebie right now. I would probably join your paying customer base just to be able to compete.

Thank you. If we can make it happen, I do feel like it would be one of the most competitive fantasy football tournaments in the world. Lots of sharks.

One last thing, Joe..

Don't succumb to these knuckleheads who are gonna be preaching about allowing the trading of draft picks and such.

Nah. As is. Take what you're dealt, stop being a mook, and prove you're as good as you claim to be. God, I can't wait to beat you all.

LOL. No trading draft picks.

And no trades of players. Waiver wire will be the way to add.

This is super interesting. I wonder how many others feel like you on this?

Doing a tournament like this will be a ton of effort to coordinate. It'll be a logistical challenge sorting all the entries into leagues and creating all the leagues and confirming and such. Much of it will be manual entry which means $$$. As we've talked about the feasibility of doing this and the costs for doing it, one question kept coming up: "Do you think this thing could help sell Premium Subscriptions?"

I'd guess you'll definitely get a lot of the older sharks who stopped subscribing to re-sub for this. as far as new money, what is the marketing reach right now if any? X posts and how you position your (free) social media marketing will be key. keeping the "fun" factor as the main goal, every good story need formiddable villains, so come beat the best/loudest/(annoyingest?) here at FBG! will be really fun for the board regulars, like the Anarchy leagues, but bigger.

also, so many of the posters here are commissioners for long running leagues, maybe recruit a few to help manage leagues and give them a free entry or sub for the year? i mean, i assume the staff makes a gazillion dollars so the sharks might be a cheaper option.

I do wonder how many people it might pull in.

The good news is the work is all at one time. So it would be a ton of work to organize and sort all the teams into leagues. But once done, then it pretty much runs itself.

But for sure, the fun factor will be the key.

Since Bueno (Rick Tschauder) passed away last year the No Mercy leagues are without a leader/organizer, that's 84 teams right there. I'm sure most would be interested.

What counts as premium subscription?

I'm currently on the Elite plan. Would that fall under premium or mainly just the HOF plan?

:hey:

I'm in the same boat. Freebie since I do my own projections for the fun of it and stuff like that, but between this and the subscriber's contest, I'd sign up again.

What's your projection in terms of total teams?

That's the huge question.

I think we could easily have 800 leagues or almost 10,000 teams. But that's an insane amount of work for our team sorting, organizing and creating leagues.

We might start super small in year 1 with more like a few hundred teams.

But to be clear, this is all just me talking at this point. Nothing promised or certain for sure.

How would you determine who gets in? First come first serve?

We call any of the paid subscriptions, Premium.

So if we did it, this tournament would be available to everyone with an annual PRO, ELITE or HALL OF FAME level subscription.
I'm 1000% in.

I've been subscribed for years now. Love love love the content. Use the player pages endlessly in off-season preparation. I've been burning it up the whole month of June.

I think people are excited/eager to join these bigger contests. Scott Fish Bowl has really blown up, and people are so eager to be a part of it. A lot of people subscribe to The Fantasy Footballers Patreon in order to play in Megalabowl. I think it's a 5$ a month subscription. Warrior Bowl is taking off.

I think A footballguys contest like that would be a huge hit. It would be really cool to play against your favorite writers/content creators. And then other people you interact with in the message board.

Not sure. Still trying to figure that out.

Would be a blast to go up against fellow FBGs. I've gotten a lot of really solid info from this site and the users over the years and would love to go head to head with you all.

Although then I'd have to make a burner account to covertly get advice for that league's team lol

I've been in one dynasty and one deep keeper (8 keepers) for 20 + years now and do one "random", normally on Yahoo public, redraft every season. Might as well do that one here with the sharks and staff where I know all/almost all will play out the whole season whether good, bad or ugly.
