The Footballguys Bowl! - Was "Interest In A Footballguys Subscriber League?" (1 Viewer)

@Joe Bryant would the FBG staff be competing as well? Would be cool to beat you in a league ;)

For sure. I think having Staffers spread out among the leagues would be super fun.

I think you should make up T-shirts if you win your league that has a staffer in it.

I beat the pros in FBG subscriber league! With a picture of the FBG logo.

I was going to staff instead of pros, but it seemed like a bad idea!

I understand and like that this is a subscribers contest, but if there were a subset dedicated to subscribers who are also active board members, it could generate some interesting interactions here(you can decide if that is a good or a bad thing).

I like that too. If this works, I think in future years I'd love to have the ability to sort people into leagues based on things. Location, favorite teams, Shark Pool members etc.

For this year though if we're able to do this, it won't be possible. But I love the idea.

You're hitting on a HUGE part of what I think will make this fun - connections within the league.

Regional groupings would be an intriguing concept. I like that idea!

Very interested as well, re-upped again last year was able to win my league again and I'm back for more. Great idea Joe, good fun what FF is all about.

In an ideal situation, I could see these leagues eventually being live in person drafts if the 12 GMs chose to do that. Knowing the regions or zip codes would be a big help on that.

@Joe Bryant :

In the general DMV/PA area, there's been a local in-person FBG's Auction League going strong since 2008, helmed by @roarlions , and still populated by some founding members who are active here in the Pool.

I was involved from the start, but bowed out when my increasing involvement in National High Stakes Leagues started compromising my ability to be a responsible and competitive Franchise Manager for free and less expensive Leagues, that required in-season management. It's an excellent League, and I miss it.

Not sure if there's another League like this in the FBG Universe, but if not, it might be pretty cool for you to connect with Jim (roarlions), and maybe run a feature on it.
This is how it all began (a good read, if you're into that sort of thing):

That's awesome. I bet all those folks would love this if we're able to do it.

Warning: Half-baked idea incoming. Create a multi-tiered pyramid structure of 12-team leagues, and have one 12-team league at the top, and 11 feeder leagues below it. The winner of the top league is declared the FBG FF World Champion, and stays on to defend their title the next season, while the 11 runner ups get relegated back to the leagues from whence they came, while the 11 champs in tier 2 move up.

It's a pyramid, so rinse, repeat, and multiply to form the third level, and a then fourth level too. If I ciphered correctly, tier-3 = 132 leagues, and a tier-4 adds 1,331 more leagues. So, four tiers yields a total of 1464 leagues ( *12 teams per league), or 17,568 participants. A fifth tier would scale out to 16,105 leagues and 193,260 participants (I think), which seems like a lot.

What's not explained here is how to initially seed the leagues. I've got some ideas, but I have not exactly translated them from machine code (where my brain is the machine, ha!) into English, but it could be done easily enough, I think. ANYWAY, hopefully you can see that to be the FBG World Champ, you'd have to win your league four consectutive years, moving up a tier each season.

This is all presented with the idea of it being for bragging rights, but adding money to the equation would be fun too. Spitballing ideas, and again this is after leagues/tiers are fully seeded, new entries could feed the base tier after paying an entry fee, but once advanced (and until you get relegated back to the base tier and lose their too), you're playing with house money. In a 4-tier creation, that would yield 14,641 paid entries. Using $10 as an example, that yields almost $150,000 pot. Not going to focus on the payouts and expenses (Expenses! -- Jim Mora, maybe), but I like the idea of a large grand prize for the champ, and a substantial prize for the runner-up; and that's it. Everyone else is playing for bragging rights.

Random thought: I'm a casual redraft players these days and ADP no longer means much, but once upon a time I placed quite a bit of value on it. If running a 4-tier contest with 1464 leagues, and the drafts are timed to run about a week or so before people draft in their big money leagues, FBG subscribers could have access to 200-proof ADP, which might be a nice perk.

Hope I did not MoP up the advanced arithmetic. :-)

Thanks @Mister CIA That could be fun for sure but I can see this being quite a bit bigger. Depending on what we're able to do.

There won't be any prize money in this one so we can open it up to everyone no matter where they live. That's always been a problem with our current Subscriber Contest.

We'll keep working on this and y'all keep letting us know what you see on things. Thanks.

Sounds like an opportunity for Sleeper to step up and make this much easier on you Joe. You provide the demand and they provide the supply. Win/Win. I'm not on Sleeper or have ever been to that site. This would make me do that.

I can’t wait to be exposed as the guppy I am. Lots of bragging rights at stake here. I love it! :pickle:
We are all looking forward to such a demonstration!!
:ROFLMAO:

But we all might be exposed in some way as having preferences and bias on players from our posts ... so insight can be gained from extensive reading!! LOL
I plan on doing zero such preparation if this comes to pass.

I will rawdog my draft like a newborn fawn, stumbling into the world for the 1st time.

I'll draft Josh Gordon in the 1st and 3rd and still wipe my hands filled with your very own hot sauce, across your face.

Like a habanero flavored battle scar you'll wear for eternity.

I'd like to see the idea of relegation....playoff teams advance to an elite league, non playoff teams are relegated to the guppy leagues. Identify league level in avatar etc.

Make it a competition that means something (board bragging rights) and you will get more interest and better competition. Without that I'm not sure i would be interested. Leagues need to mean something.

So how does this work? Kickers and quarterbacks score a lot of points, so I probably draft them first right?
Depending on scoring, D’s can score a lot too. So I’d probably start K , D and QB in the first 3 rounds, and be sure to pick up your backup K and D before round 7.

Getting in here in case replying is one of the criteria for getting in a league.

Honestly, I'm surprised this didn't happen long ago.

Working on the landing page for this has me more excited than ever for it.

Did you figure out a way for every subscriber who wants in can get in a league or will it be a first come first serve limited amount kind of thing?

We're going to do the waitlist announcement and see how it goes.

I honestly don't know if we'll get 200 or 2000 to join the waitlist. We'll see.

It'll definitely be limited as Sleeper removed the automation to create leagues. So each league will have to be manually created by us and then each person manually invited. It's going to be some work. So I want to get a handle on what kind of demand there is for this.
