All RBs have short careers. This is a win now league, especially with Eli heading into year 4. And if you've watched Jacobs, he doesn't take that many big hits. He'll average 20-25 touches per game.
I just don't understand the people that expect him to have a full split with Droughns. This was possibly the best backup signing for Jacobs and he brings next to nothing to the table. Based on opportunity alone he'll be able to post low end RB2 numbers at 20 carries per game.
Amazing. Jacobs has averaged about 65 carries per year over the last two years, but Droughns has averaged 265. Yet somehow that makes people confident that Jacobs will get 320 carries in 2007?Trivia question: How many RBs had 320 carries in 2006?Answer: 7 (LT, LJ, SJax, Barber, Parker, RJohnson, Edge)Trivia question: Of the top fifty fantasy RBs, how many had 20 carries per game in 2006?Answer: 9 (the seven above plus Alexander and CTaylor)
Barber is in both lists. So my question to you is how do you see the Giants distributing those carries?

:goodposting: But I expect Jacobs to be given the chance to win/loose the job and Droughns is the backup.320 carries is a strech. And the only reason he got 65 carries a year was because he was behind Tiki.

How in hell do you know if Jacobs is capable of carrying the load until he's given a chance.
How do you know he is?
If Droughns was so great why did Cleveland show him the streets.
He doesn't have to be great to beat out Jacobs.
It's ignorance like that allows the sharks to get players like Jacobs for a 4th round rookie pick.
It's logic like yours that leads people to draft Wali Lundy in the 4th round.

You're assuming that there will be that many carries to distribute in the first place. Without a solid running game, the Giants might not hit 320 RB carries as a team.

As a "proud :lmao: " dynasty owner.. I would get worried if they give him 300+ carries; that would kill a BIG back, especailly in his 1st yr.

I would rather see 250 or so which equals about 15 carries a game.

Its also amazing that out of a 100 votes..only 3 would Lock both up?

I would not have picked up Lundy at any point last year. My logic allows me to pick up players like Willie Parker for $1 while everyone else is sitting on the sidelines. Or pick up Jacobs for a 4th round ROOKIE pick last year. But hey if you think there were 30 rookies last year that stand a better chance at posting good numbers next year maybe I can find you room in our dynasty league.

The average carries is quite a cherry picking of data there. He posted 38 carries his rookie year and 96 carries last year. For comparision sake, everyone's darling Michael Turner carried a grand total of 80 times. The average carries over his two year career is disingenous at best. The 20 carries per game is a ballpark figure, so if he gets 300, he's generally a 20 carry per game guy in my book. He'll be a primary back and if he averages 19 or 20 or something around there is fairly immaterial considering some figure he'll be lucky to get 200 carries.

BTW, your figures do show that the Giants are a running team and that Coughlin and Co have zero problem handing the lion's share of the carries to one back. The offense may regress, but Jacobs will still be the primary ball carrier. Droughns has no upside and is middle of the road at best, Jacobs has flashed difference making ability in a highly limited role. He's going to be given every chance to prove he's not the man. Expecting Jacobs to come in a be a feature back is no different from expecting a rookie to step in. Its by far the most common position for people to step in and produce.

This is all I want to know in the Brandon Jacobs world.

If I have Steven Jackson, Ronnie Brown, Jacobs, Dillon, and Brandon Jackson.

Is Jacobs going to perform well enough to be my RB3?

4) 3rd year rule? great, but that supposably applies to WRs and this is his 2nd year
hmmmmmm.. Jacobs been playing since 2005 Bud.. making 2007 his 3rd yr.# 27 Brandon Jacobs Position: RBHeight: 6-4Weight: 264Born: 07/06/1982College: Southern IllinoisNFL Experience: 3 One thing I do like is that last yr he had a 4.4yd avg per carry and a 13.5yd avg per rec  on 11 recs. Also; in 2006, he had 9 games where he recieved 5 carries or more and his avg was 4 yds or better.
:hot: How could I have overlooked his 38 carries in 2005? His whole 99 yards. My mistake. "3rd year rule" is still a load of ####

yeap.. it called his "rookie" yr.. and the 3rd yr is starting to go out the window..heres what I've notice.. I came up w/ 4 classes of players and talent level1) a player that is special and wil make an instead impact to the game: Reggie Bush2) a player that is extremely talented will breakout in between the middle of their 2nd and 3rd yr (you can see it coming at the end of their 2nd yr):so many that could be named3) a player w/ above avg talent needs about 5 yrs in the league before they beakout (these are the players that work extremely hard to stay in the league): Thomas Jones4) a player w/ avg or below avg talent level; they are usually holding a spot until the team can get around to picking up someone in one of the other 3 classes.I view Jacobs as a 2.5... more talented than above avg but not extremely talented..He needs about 4 yrs before he makes some real noise
