Yikes. Tell me more. You mean just comfort/handling/etc?  This will be a third car, garaged year round and just a toy for tinkering around with/cruising around locally on the weekends. Pretty sure I won't even bother taking this the 30 min drive down to the beach. So I'm expecting something pretty Spartan, but curious to hear more from any CJ owners as to what I can expect here......

thx.
Yes.. very much. For cruising around locally they're fine. Even for 30 min drive to the beach. Just understand that a JK is like a Maybach compared to a CJ.... though for some, that is part of the charm of a CJ. The shorter wheelbase will handle differently and the suspension will be significantly less plush.

anyone been rock crawlin lately brohans one thing that helps you drive over a rock is a some sweet kcs on a roll cage take that to the bank bromigos

Found a nice black CJ-8 Scrambler on CL.  Been exchanging e-mails with the owner.  Very tempted to pull trigger.  Feels like a decent deal.  Scheduled a mobile mechanic to go by and inspect.
based on my mechanic buddy (of 30+ years) who worked for a Jeep dealer......I'd keep this mechanic's number handy.  You'll need him.

I took a ride in one of these early 80s Jeeps and decided to pass.  15k for that bucket of rusty bolts?  Hell no.  It's really uncomfortable to drive in too.  No thanks.

I'm waiting for the 2018 JL to come out.  The renderings based on the spy photos look so, so awesome.  Can't wait.

I keep looking at used 4 door Jeeps for my 16 yr old.  Is it too cool to start with?  My S550 is waaaayyyyy to nice for him to drive to practice and the Denali is too damn big.  I want something that I'll like to drive too.

Pickup?  Jeep?  Have him drive the S?  Suggestions?

It's a personal decision.  But, I know how stupid of a driver I was when I was 16, and if my boys turn out to be anything like me, I wouldn't want them driving around in something that is essentially a toy and capable of doing stupid things.

My oldest is in line to drive my wife's old minivan this fall when he turns 16.

Drove a 2015 wrangler unlimited 4 door.  Dude had put some big mudders on it and a light bar.  I was surprised by how nice it drove.  I would get smaller tires but a nice ride.

Checking out a black 2016 Sahara on Sunday.  Loaded with goodies.  Wife gave the go ahead on the idea.  Kid will love it, I think.  He sure likes driving it.  He's on the mountain bike team so he would be able to haul bikes.

I will drive it a lot as well.

Absolutely loved my 2016 Wrangler Unlimited.  Bought the "Rocky Ridge" edition which had the big 35" tires, a lift, etc.  It was awesome.  Drove just fine.  No, not a barn burner on the highway, and not the ultimate comfort vehicle, but that's not what were here for.  Perfect car for leaving the roof off on a nice sunny day and cruising the town with some tunes and a smoke.

Welcome to the club, Scups.

Always wanted to be a convert.  Keeps are just cool.  The side airbags will make me feel better about my kid driving it too. I guess we will find out on Sunday

Getting excited for the 2018 redesign myself.  I put ~ 8-9k miles a year on my daily driver and have a 7 year old daughter, so I can give her the 2018 JL when she turns 16 with ~ 70-80k miles.  Hopefully last her through HS and college.

2 door Rhino Willy's W, soft top only.  MSRP probably ~ 36k with the options I'll want.  Hoping to get it for closer to 33k.

on the jeep for kids question not doing the swclaroosh thing i had a buddy back in the day lose his son when his jeep rolled due to the high center of gravity on a relatively benign corner and the roll bar did the kid in i do not think it is a good first vehicle what i honestly think is a good first vehicle is something big and tankish with an underpowered engine so it is safe in an accident and does not go fast or accelerate quickly just my honest two cents now back to rock crawlin and kc lights brohans take that to the bank

Damn you SWC for ruining my dream!

sorry bromigo it ruined my friend losing his son and it has stuck with me hey they are cool as hell but kids are dumb as hell and have all the talks you want eventually they rocket off the line or take a corner too quick it is what it is so im just sayin the truth on this one take that to the bank

anyone driven both the Rubi and the Sahara?  Unlimited.  Want to know how much firmer the Rubi rides.  Maybe I'll just go drive one.  Close to pulling trigger.  Going through final motions.

So, like a jeep?  ;)

The center of gravity in the JK's (and I'll assume the new JL's) is nothing like it was in the old ones. The wheelbase is wider and longer than they used to be and they sit a bit lower too.
Exactly.  Rolling isn't an issue with today's Jeeps like it was years ago.

I wouldn't pay the extra for a Rubi unless I were planning to do real serious offroading.

They could pretty much charge me unlimited money for this 2017 Safari concept and I'd pay up.  So much want.

Supposedly has some design cues from the upcoming JL (grill looks like the JL spy photos).

I have a Rubicon and love it. I do some off-roading, and I got the Rubicon because I'm lazy and inept and knew that I would never jack it up or add tires, so I figured I would just buy the one that was ready for off-roading out of the box.

It's been a blast.

I've had Rubicons in the past and decided to save a few bucks this time and go with the Willy's.  I'm not a fan of the Sahara package ( mostly the color matched fenders).  I've never noticed a ride difference in any of them, they all ride like Jeeps.

i am glad to hear that in all honesty take that to the bank brohans

My Son has been dying to put LED halos on our 2010 for a while.  He took it on himself to get "me" a set as a early Fathers Day.  He was home for a long weekend from college and we installed them.  I thought I'd hate them, but I liked them so much we added a new grill and, since we needed new tires, we decided to upgrade the rims as well.  So my Mid-Life Crisis now looks like this.

That looks sick.  Nice upgrade.

I have a 2 door Willys an it's a much stouter ride than my brother's 4 door Sport. I don't know if it's the wheel-base or the suspension or the tires but his is like riding in a Lincoln compared to mine.

(I still wouldn't trade him though.)

Those lights are cool but I'm just not a fan of the "angry" grill look. Just my personal taste.

I get it and, in part, feel the same way too. But being able to change the halo color from my phone has been way too fun.  The Jeep Waves have been awesome'r too
They look awesome, i love the halos, I didn't know you could change the halo color. I have heated trucklites and I'm scared to go with a non-heated led with the winters we have here in Buffalo.

I wasn't either until I saw how inexpensive and well reviewed it was on Amazon.  The price made it a fun option and the grill can be swapped in around 10 minutes so I'll be going between the stock grill and the angry one.  While not in use, the other grill is now art on my basement wall with back lighting.

The App that controls the lights has all kinds of functionality.  You can use a photo to match the light to a specific color in a photo.  My son also had the music option puling the colors to music (in the driveway).  There is a breast cancer event (Jeeps for Jugs) we may go to next month where we can queue up the halos in pink for the event.

I agree, the halos are sweet; the angry grill isn't my thing.

I'm actually very seriously considering now going to pick up a classic "Jeep-like" truck -- either a Bronco, or the Scout, or possibly a Blazer.  I like the Broncos but they're incredibly pricey now; I think the Scouts give me everything I like about the Bronco at a fraction of the price, and so that's my current leaning.  There's one for sale nearby that I'm going to try and check out in the next couple of days, make sure I can fit in them and that I like what I see, and if so, I may get on a serious hunt for one, and let the new JL wait a few years. Hmm.

nice that it was a body off and they show there homework on that one brohan not my cup of coffee but it does look like they at least did it right take that to the bank bromigo

Don't get the scout...parts are way too hard to find.  Bronco's are great, so many interchangeable platforms to go with. IMO keep it simple with a carb and four speed.  there is a cool conversion where you can easily put a running gear from a new model (truck or similar) so that you have fuel injected and an automatic but this is too easy.

Jesus..that is over priced by about 20K.  If you really want a scout get a WestCoast based version - you can find them for 25% of that price in LA/SD.
It's really not. I've been looking at dozens of them. It's a good price for what looks like a spare no expense frame off resto.

The one thing I really dig about a scout is nobody knows wtf it is. It's a piece of history and nobody else is likely to have one. That's pretty cool to me.
