He says of the 6 frame mounts, only two show rust. He says you can't see any of the rust from the interior, if you life the carpets everything is sparkling.

What's it cost to replace the tub? (And what the hell is a tub?) It otherwise seems like a pretty awesome specimen, and he says he's flexible on price. If he's willing to take a bit less, it may well be worth the plunge. That's a lot of cool factor, potentially for in the neighborhood of $6k.

Tub is the actual body of the car, that holds the interior and is then bolted to the frame/drivetrain.

To replace a finished tub on that jeep, I'd say you're looking at $5-8k depending on where you go.

Dude, everyone is an "all cash buyer" on private sales for used cars. That said... If you get that heep for 6500 you'll be doing fantastic!

I'm a little nervous about he rust mention and the "if you're looking for X this isn't the jeep for you" comments....

I'm a fan of the Big O... but you're nuts if you think that's the case. IF there are any mods he'll be dropping it off at a shop to do the work. Nothing wrong with using checkbook instead of turning a wrench, just sayin I don't think we're in any danger of O becoming that kinda jeeper

Get this, spend $2.5K on a wrap or 4-5K on a paint job. Another $1-$1.5k to ensure it is mechanically safe and drive. I still think you should get the bronco but this isn't terrible.

Important to keep in mind that the end buyer has zero connections in the offroad world or fabrication/wrenching chops, so he'll be paying top dollar for stuff that the rest of us would get knocked out free by ourselves or by throwing a case of beer in the fridge of a buddy with a welder.

If we're talking about mutiple problem areas in different areas, it could just end up being cheaper/easier to swap tubs... especially when factoring in potential resale (new tub in 2015 vs welded in panels on OEM tub).

My track car (m3) is a stick. With the race clutch and the hills (i live in SF) I hate driving it - get the auto.

Nothing wrong with an auto. Most serious offroad/crawler guys run autos.

Guessing the 3spd won't love highways so plan on this being an around town cruiser that reasonably tops out in the 60s, but nothing wrong with that. Like sbonomo said... the novelty of a stick wears off fast in ####ty traffic.

I find the best part of owning a jeep is messing around and working on it. I'm a total novice as I've shown on my previous "build", but that's all part of the learning experience.

Otis may have more fun with a more classic vehicle.

Also, update on my jk. Got rid of nerf bars and put on some rock sliders. New bumper and winch. I'll have to add pics later. Looks great. Haven't had doors or top on for the last month. Has been glorious.

Kinda excited to hear the first reviews of O cruising around town with top/doors off on a nice day. There are cars you enjoy the drive as much as the destination... Then there are ones you love the drive more than most destinations... That's a wrangler (under the right conditions).

The only vehicle I've ever owned where I frequently took the long way to go places.. Or would just get in it and get lost on backroads in the country then use GPS to get me home.

I loved my '94 Wrangler, but ~ 2017-18 when my kids are past the toddler stage, I'll be looking hard at the all black 2014 Willy's. Those are the shizznit at a respectable price.

My daughter will be 7 in 2017. I plan on scooping a 2014 Wrangler with low mileage, and enjoying it for 8-9 years, and then giving it to her when she turns 16 (Wrangler will be 12 yrs old at that point).

Either that, or I'm getting Musk's diet Model S when it drops in 2017.
