it's hard to tell on the vid... but i assumed you hit your line with the spoter right there an all. Oh well... at least you had the armor. How did your rails fair? Do you have sliders?
Yeah hit my line.. just had a rock roll on me and put me on the skids. Armor did it's job for the most part. Gotta hammer it out when I work on the tranny though. Rails are pretty much unscathed (one chip from a rock) ... got lucky there. Putting some sliders in before the next run as they will be needed.

:lmao: Naw... they were more discreet when that was going on ;)
 Yeah... it was a line up for a group shot. Cheesy.. maybe a little. One of the drivers (kat) is a pro photographer so she had us line up for shots a few times.
Maybe a lot. Roughing it with the fellas in the mountains for a weekend with Jeeps = lots of fun.

Posing for camera shots = Derek Jeter.

This whole thread reeks of fromage.

Damn that was a long weekend....

Spent the day saturday wrenching with a few buddies. Installed:

OME HD Coils (front & Rear)

OME NitroCharger Shocks (front & rear)

Brown Dog Industries 1" Motor Mount LIft

1" Body LIft

JKS Adjustable Rear Trackbar

Didn't have time to get the adjustable front in because we needed to drill out one of the arms to get it to work.

Started with the coils/shocks.... everything went extremely smoothly thanks to full air setup with impact wrenches, etc.... until we realized we were missing a couple upper shock mount nuts for the OME shocks. The nut was an odd size so my buddy spent an hour driving around from lowes to lowes until he found one that had it. While he was gone we dropped the rear end and built it up.

Then we did the body lift..... bit of a PITA but not too bad... the MML was a bit of a hassle though. The Driver side on Jeeps with AC is notoriously rough due to the tight working space, but we managed to get it in. The passenger side was supposed to be a cakewalk but something was screwed up in the frame threads. Another run to lowes to get a tap set and we had to re-thread the frame mounts.... an hour later..voila.

Headed out an immediately my swaybars (now too short) shot off my budget disconnects) carter pins) and caused a nice deathwobble... dropped the factory bolts back in and it helped a bit. Getting an alignment today and I need to adjust the caster with some cam bolts on the front end. Other than that no probs.

The 2.5" lift actually netted 4". The downside to getting the extra lift is my driveshaft angle spiked from 9 degrees to 18 degrees so my pinion angle and TCase output don't really line up anymore... meaning I'm getting some decent driveline vibes at lower RPMs. I'll be throwing in a 1/2" Tcase drop this week to help in the meantime... but I'm now on the market for a SYE and Tom Woods CV Driveshaft (~$450).

Took it out Sunday with some guys from the Jeep club:

Shot >

Performed great... tons of travel now with my "Little" 31x10.50s.... time to order those 33x12.50s I've been wanting.

Next Up:

• Aussie Locker in front

• JKS Quicker Disconnects or Currie Antirock (debating)

• Rocker Guards (Shrockworks or PSC)

• Swingaway Rear Tire Carrier

• SYE w Tom Woods Driveshaft

• Nth Degree Upper Rear Adjustable Control Arms

• 33" MTs

• Front Bumper (looking at Smittybuilt's Cage-Style or the PSC Trail Stinger)

Luckily having the local jeep club to wheel with has allowed me to put off the purchase of a winch... not needed when you're rolling with 7-10 other rigs to yank ya out if you get in too far.

Anyways... just figured I'd throw up an update for those who might be following along

:lmao: I have never been known to halfass anything like this... when I get into somethin I'm usually head first.

Not a ton into it just yet.... about 1500 or so. Plans for about 3k or so more over hte next 6mo... just building it as I need it. The guys I'm rolling with provide a massive help both in labor and know how.. so I'm taking advantage while I can :)

The stuff we're riding on requires a certain set of capabilities to ride it effectively.... mainly lockers with a decent lift at at least 31s though about 80% of our group is rolling on 33s or 35s (or bigger).

Some clips from our run Sunday (I missed it)

NIce little near flop >

He was being a bit of an idiot, which contributed more to the flop than any really serious terrain.. but still entertaining.

Photo of his near flop from different angle >

My buddy Brian's rig flexin a bit >

He's got about $12k into his rig (on top of the 20k+ purchase price)... nice longarms... 35s..etc

Can tell when he engages the lockers :)

A longer vid from the run to arkansas >

none of this is really anything too hardcore.. but it's a good time

I'm jealous you guys have trails like this.Very nice.
Just over in hot springs arkansas..superlift ORV park... about 3 hrs. We've got an arrangement with the park... our local jeep club we just started is cutting a fresh trail in the spring. Anyone interested in joining in is more than welcome. Will be a great time. We're sitting at 30 jeeps about right now and should triple in the next year.... any FBGs who wanna join up are on my dime. Stock rigs welcome... good times are had by all.

Installed an OME Steering Stabilizer today. Night and day difference. I was still wrestling with some bumpsteer and other steering issues after the lift.

After a fresh alignment/balance plus adding this thing = night and day difference. Steadier tracking as well as ZERO wheel shudder due to hitting bumps.

Pretty much a must-get for anyone who's lifted with 31s or bigger. There are cheaper options but at $60 it was worth it to me to go with the best (OME).

Will be ordering the SYE + CV Driveshaft (prob Tom Woods) + Aussie Dana 30 Front Locker on monday.

For rubber I've settled on the Maxxis Bighorns (33x12.50x15). Got a helluva deal with an arkansas shop at $620 shipped for FIVE tires.  All reviews point to them being VERY tough, and traction is at a premium with lugs extending down onto the sidewall. In addition, they're siped for added wet traction.

Here's a shot of the Bighorns eating up some rocks... nice sidewall flex : http://www.soapofthegods.com/twin-cone/images/IMG_5723.jpg

If anyone's looking for new rubber let me know.. I don't know if I can get the same deal for you but it will be much less than you'll pay locally.

Looks we're planning another run to Superlift ORV (hot springs, AR) the weekend of December 15th.... as of now we're only rolling about 4-5 jeeps deep but that should increase before we go. Anyone who wants to join in is more than welcome.. just drop me a PM.

i'm in the market for a soundbar for my '94 Wrangler. Some loke snagged my 6x9's and so I've been stuck listening to tweeters for 8 months.

anyone ever put one of these into a Jeep? I can't imagine it's very difficult.

Direct Bolt In >I'd suggest droppin in some infiniti reference 5012 series into the holes... again a straight bolt-in. They're pretty damn solid. I went with the 6.5"s though.... required some cutting.

If you're looking for a little extra low-end but not trying to be some thumping attention whore, then teh Kenwood KSC-SW1 earns rave reviews for a very cheap, easy to install means to add a little low-end to the factory system. Common install includes bolting to underside of rear seat.

good lookin' - i like that better than the big ### soundbar that Jeep makes

probably order that exact setup this weekend.

 A suggestion would be to get some speaker polyfill and put it inside the pods as you're installing the infinity's.... it will help some of the resonance from the plastic pods and help them fill out a little more.

for 5 bucks more you can order it powdercoated now too.

When I got mine all they had was bare steel. I painted it red

yo - i'm about to order these pods, and I want to order the speakers separately, and it looks like the holes in the link you sent me are cut for 6.5's. Why didn't your 6.5's fit? You had to cut? I don't have a saw or tools handy, so I want the speakers to fit perfectly.

????????????????

I'd stay away from powdercoating for any part that comes in contact with rocks. Powdercoat is DONE once you scratch it once... it flakes off from the point where it's been damaged. Go with a color you can touch up with a Krylon rattle can :thumbup:Of course, if you don't play on the rocks then you don't have to worry about it too much... but then again, if that's the case you don't need the steering box skid now do ya/ :)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. If those are cut for 6.5s then you're good to go... just order the infinity 6.5s instead of the 5.25

I'm running the Infinity 6012i

Update on my rig...

Went out to the local park Sunday with some guys from the local club (had 7 jeeps out there) and had a good run. Unfortunately my TCase linkage is off from the Body Lift so I couldn't get it to stick in 4LO. After a big of grinding and cursing I gave up and just rolled in 4HI for the day... meaning no crawling for me. Had to adapt my driving style and rely on hte skinny pedal a bit more but managed to make it through the day without getting stuck. Will have to adjust the linkage when I install the SYE/CV setup soon.

Speaking of that... I'll be ordering the SYE, Tom Woods CV driveshaft, and Nth Degree Mobility Adjustable upper rear control arms this week (total $625 from Dave over at Northridge 4x4). Hoping to get that dropped in over the next 2 weeks as we're planning on another run to Superlift ORV here soon.

No other damage as of yet so that's nice... just a thick layer of mud right now.

Some shots from our run Sunday:

Nick's Built Rubi (Longarm, 35s, custom cage, etc etc) playing on some light rocks >

The dent on the hood is from a close encounter with a tree...

John's Rubi climbing out of a ravine in the woods >

Nick again.. this time on his frame in some extra thick gumbo mud >

Should all be here Wed/Thursday of this week... I'm installing all of it on Saturday. SHould be a busy day... will post before and after images, as well as some install shots for the "invisible" stuff

Very cool history of the jeep... saw it a couple months back. :hifive: Got my Wheel spacers installed 2 nights ago... piece of cake.... got my 33s put on last night. Damn they look awesome. Can't wait to hit the trails next week and see how they perform. This saturday is the big install day...

where is the video of that chick driving a jeep, all you see are her bumps going up and down from the perspective of inside the steering wheel, they make it out to be a jeep commercial but obviously fake

Got a question for you, [icon].

Say you roll your Jeep up in the mountains and it burns up...total loss. Insurance covers the Jeep you bought, but what about the thousands of dollars in add-ons? Is there a way they will pay for that, too?

How do you protect your investment through insurance?

It actually is a Spec commercial for Jeep from Exile Pictures. It never got picked up however:LInk >

Good question. It's somethign we've addressed with a few guys in the jeep club. Apparently if you hold onto your reciepts and have photographs of everything, most insurance companies willl honor added value. It helps if you contact them and make them aware that you've got significant added value in the vehicle... give them the option of bumping your rates a bit. I've got about 4k extra in my jeep that I paid 15k for.... when I'm "Done" it will probably be sitting on about 6-7k of add ons. After I do this install this weekend I'm taking a fresh round of photos and sending them and photocopies of my receipts to the insurance company to make sure we're on the same page. I'll post the pics here as well for those who are interesetd in how the project is going...

I have a buddy down in DC that is big into "tweaking" cars (I don't know the proper slang), one of which is a toyota supra that he races, anyway he has totalled it a few times, each time he haggles with his insurance company on how much money they owe him, I think one time they offered him like 8k and he negotiated them up to like 15k based on ads he found online with the same accessories, then he goes and buys the car back from the junkyard with 90% of the highend accessories in tact and makes a killing.

New Shot w/ the 33s

New shot from behind >

Note the washers in the TCase skid... get to nix those on saturday with the SYE/CV. Also, spare won't fit on the rear gate now.. installing the Bestop Oversize Swing Away Carrier on Saturday as well. Supposed to be very sturdy and a steal for $250 shipped from SummitRacing. For those looking around, it's the most cost effective way to carry a full size spare for lifted Jeeps. Most swing away bumper/carriers run $600-1000 and require two steps to enter the back of the vehicle. The Bestop setup is hinged directly into the gate for easy access.

Had a good day out with the guys at our local mud-hole. It had been raining for 3 days straight and that place is soupy to begin with.

To give you an idea of just HOW slick this mud is when it's wet:

Video of a Jeep on 35s with 6" of lift spinning tires on flat ground >

There was a good bit of Water out there as well.... some guys fared a little better than others. That rig was completely flooded

Here is a video of that guy being pulled out of the water. The yellow rig is on 35s with a 6" long arm lift and a 1" body lift.

Updated shots of my Jeep:

Next up are some Rokmen sliders and a Tummy Tuck to get another 3" of clearance underneath.

What's a Tummy Tuck? Would that be diffs with a 60 degree cover angle?

What's a Tummy Tuck? Would that be diffs with a 60 degree cover angle?
A tummy tuck is replacing the factory Transfer Case skid with a high-clearance model. The factory skid, or shovel as it has come to be known, hangs 3-4" below the belly of the jeep... making it the leading culprit when it comes to gettign hung up on rocks, ledges, etc. A tummy tuck raises the base of that skid by 2.5 to 3" by replacing the TCase mount and pulling the entire driveline upward. There are several mods that must be done prior (Slip Yoke Eliminator, CV Driveshaft, Adjustable Rear Control Arms) and it also involves some slight exhaust line rework

The benefits are an extra 3" of clearance making a 3" lift perform like a 6" lift and soforth.... but without a substantial raise in the Center of Gravity of the vehicle... which is much more important on short wheelbase rigs like Jeeps. :hey:

The Diffs are still a point of potential hangup, however a good spotter helping you put your wheels in the right place can miniimize that issue.

Cant' tell from the shot but it's on a slope. When you disconnect the swaybar the body will usally level itself out... making off camber riding much safer. Unfortunately I lost one of the factory swaybar bolts so now I'm rolling around on the road with no front swaybar. :banned: Going to pick up some JKS Quicker Disconnects later this week... something I've been needing to do anyway.

I just bought a 2007 Grand Cherokee.

Love the vehicle, but I am not real happy with the MPG so far.

Sticker said 17-21 city. The computer in the Jeep says I am getting 13.9 after 1000 miles. I am driving this Jeep very easy so far so this is disappointing.

I WISH I got 13.9mpg  your MPG will improve as the engine breaks in but I'd not expect to get much more than 15 around town and 17-18 on the highway.

I'll never forget the first time my BIL came 4wheelin' with us in his new Jeep. We had been crawling through the mountains in low range for about 2 hours, and he stops and is looking under his Jeep. I ask what's up, and he says "I must have a fuel leak. No way I could have burned up that much gas!"

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Classic. I've actually been surprised with how LITTLE gas I've used when rock crawling... most of the time I'm idling or giving just a litlte throttle. After most of the day wheeling at Superlift last time I had well over half a tank. This compared to getting about 2 to 2.5 hours of driving on the highway before needing to hit the gas station :wall: I just topped off a lunch a minute ago... I got about 11.5 mpg the last tank.... That's about my average since putting on the 33x12.50s

We ended up having a small group (6 jeeps) from the local club that wanted to make a quick day-run out to Superlift ORV this past satruday. I had been wanting to test out the new setup so I went along. The GF brought our camera and several others did as well... we were able to capture some pretty nice images. We rode primarily level 3 trails and with the recent snows melting the rocks were rather slick and the typically dry dirt sections were actually a bit slick in spots.

We had 3 rigs with open diffs and this posed a little trouble for them in some spots but luckly we had 3 good sized rigs that were locked and we were able to use straps to yank up the stragglers through any tough sections. Luckly we didn't have any carnage on this run as well.. unlike the previous 2 runs to Superlift where we had smashed transmission pans, blown axles, etc.
