Got my list down to 76 songs! Working on it in earnest now, though, after a tough two weeks at work.I do think he had 10-12 on a list, though.![]()
I’ll be honest, it’s very doubtful I click on individual YouTube links because that’s not really how I listen to music.
I just included YouTube links with my submissions, but all my songs are available on Spotify, for whoever volunteers to pull together the playlists on Spotify.I’ll be honest, it’s very doubtful I click on individual YouTube links because that’s not really how I listen to music.
Well, this is disheartening.
I was planning on using youtube links, because I like watching the videos of live performances, which makes up a large % of my list. I guess I'll submit spotify links too, but doubt I'll be able to make the Friday night deadline.
Go on ahead. I watch that way.I’ll be honest, it’s very doubtful I click on individual YouTube links because that’s not really how I listen to music.

One of my songs is only available that way. It's not even on any album/single.
I'm not saying, I'll never click on a You Tube link (I'm sure I will if something seems interesting to me) but I'm usually working while I'm checking in here - when I actually sit and listen to music it's while walking my dog, cleaning the house, cooking or driving in the car which for obvious reasons works better with a playlist than clicking on YouTube links.I’ll be honest, it’s very doubtful I click on individual YouTube links because that’s not really how I listen to music.

Amazon has gone super aggressive on pricing. In response to Apple Music's hi-res streaming announcement in 2021, Amazon made its hi-res Music HD tier (which was an additional £5 / $5 per month) free for Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers. Price-matching Apple Music, it is currently the joint-cheapest way to stream in hi-res – but Prime members get a discount on the subscription making it the most affordable hi-res option out there for them.
You can access Amazon Music Unlimited's 'HD' (16-bit CD quality) and 'UHD' (hi-res 24-bit) streams via three different avenues: the desktop app, the Android and iOS mobile apps, and compatible audio hardware with direct access to Amazon Music.
To Amazon’s credit, it pushes its seven-million-strong Ultra HD catalogue extremely hard on the service with dedicated playlists and clear labelling, e.g. Best of Ultra HD, Ultra HD: New Arrivals, Ultra HD Hip-Hop and Ultra HD Jazz. It doesn’t take long to find a steady stream of UHD music to listen to.
I’ll be honest, it’s very doubtful I click on individual YouTube links because that’s not really how I listen to music.
I’ll be almost exclusively listening to the playlists unless something catches my curiosity. It’s just too awkward to click on a link wait for the commercial, listen, and then click on another link…
Just so we are clear...you are unlikely to click on links to listen to stuff on YouTube, but all of your submissions will be YouTube links?Yes, my links on my list are YouTube since not everyone has Spotify - and I can't get to the Spotify site on my work laptop.
I've mentioned this before, but the reason I selected YouTube music as my primary music driver is that, for an extra $2 month, I get ad-free youTube. It's hard to switch once you get a taste of that. I can also lock my screen on my phone and YouTube will continue to play. I had signed up for Spotify for the previous MAD thread, but it's not been as pleasant of an experience as I would like because its recommedations are ... problematic, as they are basically built off of the MAD playlists - no offense intended to some of y'all. I'm sure I could straighten this out over time, but I'm a path of least resistance guy when it comes to stuff like this, so that's two reasons for me to stay immersed in the YouTube world of streaming music.I decided to spare y'all my whining about spotify this time. I found the site super fast for searching and linking songs I wanted. When the ads started I just muted and watched something else for a couple minutes. I have one song which surprisingly wasn't on spotty and two others that are best appreciated with the vid on youtube, so I linked to both in those cases (really hope you give the vids a watch, btw).
Audio nerd alert below. Skip if you roll your eyes at hi-fi dweebs.
My whining about spotty started when ten straight times, in megamonsterpalooza, the song I wanted wasn't available on spotty but was on google music. I encouraged y'all to make the switch. That was bad advice. Part of my enthusiasm was Google's announcement to compete with Tidal for hi-res streaming. They dropped their plans so I dropped them. Of the available music streaming services Google has the worst audio quality. It was a tie for a long time but others have upped their game, including spotty.
I know this doesn't matter to most of you, maybe all of you, but hi-res audio just tickles me when it's really good. The musicians, they're right in front of me, and every detail compressed away by most streams is there down to the most intricate pin drop. I now recommend Amazon HD. Here's a good article on topic. Below is the bit about Amazon:

All you need to hear what the studio masters wanted you to is an Amazon HD compliant setup and a decent set of headphones or buds. The musicians, they'll be in your head. I prefer them in front of me. More realism and less issues with my tinnitus. So amps and preamps and dacs and speakers for me, but that's a whole 'nother conversation to which I'll add, hi-fi can be done quite affordably.

I'm not sure if quality moves the needle anymore. I figure at some point of the aging process the audio quality ceases to matter, and I'm probably closer to that point than I'd care to admit.

Tap tap tap - is this thing on?
It's been so long since I've posted, I've forgotten how this works. Whee! Fun times, getting old. I've just blazed through 13 pages of dad jokes, whose bright idea was that?!?
Krista, I've got my list ready, and wanted to verify before I sent you anything that you did NOT want us to include links to the original song being covered in what we send you, correct?

Fives for Fighting , imo.Last Five Out lists - for the win.
No one would be stupid enough to create Galileo’s Secret Identity would they?I turned in my list a while ago, but everyday I am thinking of songs I completely overlooked/forgot about which should on my list. Oh well.

Yes. Some one else creates a Spotify playlist of the songs selected each round and the list I share at the end will be on Spotify - but in case some people use YouTube links they have been provided.I’ll be honest, it’s very doubtful I click on individual YouTube links because that’s not really how I listen to music.

There's a first five out like normal - optional, but cool. There's also a "Fun" 5, where you can send in cool lists of 5 covers that are fun, bizarre, weirdo, whatever. Have fun with it (I did!).
I chose one that made me think of you.
I was able to get mine done before leaving for Vegas 7 hours ago.Below is the list of people who I think are submitting lists, but I don't have them yet, in addition to Val who just posted. I know a few of you have checked in and are working on them, but I'm including everyone without regard to who's said what when.
@krista4
@Oliver Humanzee
@shuke
@higgins
@tuffnutt
@Doug B
@Yankee23Fan
@Chaos34 (I have your Last Five Out but not your list? Is this right?)
@DrIanMalcolm
@Zegras11
Im sorry but life has been too busy for me to dedicate enough time on this one... so I will have to bow out on this one. I will try to follow along and if a couple of my favorites dont make a list I'll add at the end of the countdown. Done and thanks. I really needed to find a great substitute for the song that is unavailable. I feel much better.Also, since I'm way behind where I usually would be at this point, I'll allow anyone who wants to change their list to do so through tomorrow.
Just submitted my listThank you for running this, krista!

Question for the Spotify users:
I just use free Spotify. For two of the songs on my list, there are Spotify links available but you can't actually click on the green 'Play' button. When you mouse over the Play button, you get a red crossed-out-circle icon.
Does this mean that the song is in the process of being removed from Spotify? Or that I, personally, don't have access to the song on Spotify? Something else? Is this a "free account" issue that would be solved by me getting a Premium subscription?
I can share the links via PM if anyone would like to check this out.
If I have preferred versions for the Spotify playlist, who do I send those to and when?
I think @KarmaPolice and @Hawks64 put them togetherIf I have preferred versions for the Spotify playlist, who do I send those to and when?
BUMP
I think it’s because you can’t pick a song directly if you don’t have an account- you have to use shuffle.Just submitted my listThank you for running this, krista!

I do have a Spotify account — it’s just a free account, though. Not the Premium account.I think it’s because you can’t pick a song directly if you don’t have an account- you have to use shuffle.

If it’s “greyed out” it means that for some reason Spotify does not have the rights to that song.
