What would the NFL GMs/Scouts be saying about Brady Quinn?

Leinart--Too Hollywood and questionable arm stength

VY--Awkward throwing motion, raw, wonderlic

Cutler--ive seen some things, but cant recall exactly what they are. decision making/mechanics? feel free to correct me uber Cutler fans.

Charlie Weiss has installed the Patriots pro-style system at Notre Dame.

Brady Quinn is therefore overrated bevcause he's a "system" QB.

Further, his average talent was elevated by playing with Maurice Stovall and Jeff Samardzija.

Edit: Yikes. Too many cut's and paste's.

Had he come out this year, people would've likely called into question his limited history of excellence (one season under Weis). But next year? If he matches or exceeds the numbers he put up in 2005, it's going to be very hard to criticize him...although you'll probably hear some folks say he's a "product of the system" since Weis turned Tom Brady from a 6th rounder into a 3-time Super Bowl winner. ;)

I'm high on Quinn. I like him better than any of this years class.

I guess I look at the other side of the "System" argument. Having played in a pro style offense his learning curve likely isn't as steep as other rookie QB's. I also think the knocks on his athleticism and arm strength are overstated.

so basically, your damned if you do and damned if you dont.meaning you get downgraded for playing in a spread offense and you get downgraded for playing in a pro-style offense.

I thought the GMs/scouts like QBs that play in a pro system.

Yep. You're always going to find detractors. My post was :sarcasm: I was answering your question of what the critics would say.FWIW, I think Quinn will be an excellent pro QB.

I caught the sarcasm. I was just making sure thats what you were trying to get across.

I could be wrong, but I think both Andy and I were playing Devil's Advocate to your question. You asked what people will be saying about Quinn...and I think, if you hear a criticism, this will be it.That said, I personally think that if he has another great year in 2006, he'll be as much of a stone cold lock for the 1st overall pick as there's been in ages. NFL GMs won't dismiss what Quinn is doing under Weis. Why? Because they know this "system" wins in the NFL unlike Spurrier's system or Jeff Tedford's systems. Additionally, Quinn is using the same playbook the Patriots used, has the same line calls that Brady makes, and the coaching staff uses Brady game film as part of Quinn's preparation.

By the end of 2006, if Quinn stays healthy, he will have broken all the major ND passing records, for a guy who's considered an NFL offensive genius, he would have gotten tons of national media attention and oh, by the way, has all the measurables.

Quinn = 2007 #1 if healthy...it's just a matter of which team gets to write his name down and hand it to Tagliabue.

one possible knock: Ran up numbers against weaker defenses, not as impressive against tough Ds (compare him to Young vs. Ohio State for example)

Well, I was thinking there werent any. Guess im just blinded by my love for the golden dome.

thanks for the responses.

I seem to be the only one who thinks this, but I fear he could be another Joey Harrington rather than Tom Brady in that he doesn't seem to be a take charge field general type of player. He seems kind of meek, and there were times when he seemed to get rattled easily. I just don't seem him getting in his teammates' grill when they screw up.
