The most horrible thing you've ever seen... (1 Viewer)

Seen more than I'd like. Guys dying in firefights no one got a medal for. I was on the Crash and Recovery team. First on the scene to a couple of plane crashes. The sickly sweet smell of burning human is unforgettable. I saw a jeep full of people flip multiple times flinging bodies all over the road. And unfortunately there is more. The world can be a very ugly place.

A mentally challenged man who was crying and promising a broken egg that it will still be a chicken someday.

I did survey work in high school in the summers. Once I went to a state school for a week to set up for a project. Well I'll wasn't prepared for it at all. I didn't even know what it was. A state school is code for basically the mental ward.

But not only were there prisons setup with razor wire, but also people that have been abandoned for life and wards of the state. Disfigurement you should never encounter and people with nearly no brain or muscle function at all.

I had to have two escorts at all times in case one of them jumped me. Still think about it all the time. Was a really an awful job to give to a kid.

Early theme here: Irresponsible motorcyclists. Shocker.
How so? What an ignorant statement. One story involved a pot hole. How is that the riders fault?
But the other three were speeding, racing, speeding into the back of a van.
We don't know if they were speeding either.
The OP clearly stated the guy was speeding past him. The second one specifically said "bike race". The van...it's safe to assume if you slid a quarter mile down the road you were going too fast or you were not able to react to brake in time (aka distracted or tailgating).
The van was broke down on the side of the road and no one was in it. It was clearly off the road, and was there when we went into this bar and obviously still there when we left.

Okay then as far as I see there are three possibilities. He was distracted. He was speeding and lost control. Perhaps some case of a brake failure or something of that nature. Probably would have heard about a lawsuit if it were the last option.

Not nearly as bad, but I remember seeing a wrecked car where the drivers seat was essentially pancaked.
As bad as the accident was above, I'll never forget passing by an accident scene on Thanksgiving morning and seeing some young girl standing by the car screaming that she killed her mom. I could see a human shape in the car. Sick to my stomach for several days thinking of the hell that girl was going though and how thanksgiving would always be a horrible day for her.
And Mothers Day.

Found a 13 year old girl on my rounds, who had hanged herself. Had to lift her down from the door, and then needed the cutdown knife to cut the ligature. Started CPR and when the paramedics got there, she had a pulse. She died 3 days later.

I will never ever forget the dead eyes
Didn't you post about this before? That sounds familiar. Sorry regardless of course.

my wife was hit head on by a motorcycle. passenger on the bike bounced off the front windshield and ended up about 75 yards behind the wreck, in a ditch. driver went under the vehicle, and died at the scene. car was a total. engine block pushed in about 3'. airbags and seat belt saved my wife's life...she walked away with some scratches and bruising. i will never forget getting her phone call, the terror and horror in her voice, and then arriving on scene and walking past the yellow tarp covering driver of the motorcycle to get to her. the smell of asphalt, oil, antifreeze and deployed airbag are etched into my memory. i'm not sure she or i are really past it, even though it was a few years back.

toxicology report showed the driver of the motorcycle was well over the legal limit for alcohol consumption and had marijuana in his system too.

please don't drink and drive. :notalecture:

Saw a guy jump in front of a train at the King Street Metro maybe three years ago. Turned away as I realized what he was doing, so the last thing I saw he was sort of hanging in the air above the tracks.

Was also passed by a semi going about 75mph in Minnesota with a long hydraulic lift bed fully up behind him. We debated for a couple miles miles whether he could get under the overpasses and whether we needed to try and catch up with him to tell him.

In the end we figured he must be able to since there were bridges across the road every few miles. Nope. He hit the next one and it ripped the entire bed off the semi, corkscrewed it left and slid it off the road at a 90 degree angle to the direction of traffic. We and everyone else slowed down just before the impact and he somehow kept the truck under control, so no one was hurt. So close to horrific, but not really. More just completely surreal and amazing.

What's there to debate? You get his attention and tell him to lower it!

At a minimum you call 911. Cops have ability to broadband every cb station with a mayday if he had his on.

When I was 20 back in the 70's a bunch of us were out on motorcycles speeding on this 2 lane highway. There was/is a railroad crossing where the tracks are part of a yard lead and trains get stopped there blocking the highway often. Anyway, this one sunday we were flying up to the crossing in a light rain and fog, one of my buddies didn't see that there was a train stopped, by the time he noticed he tried to put the bike on its side and slide but he was too late. He hit his head right into the side of the open boxcar, sliced off most of his head....needless to say he didn't survive.

Pre-cellphone era.

Yeah, I know it seems obvious. And I guess it is. But the dude blew past us, we were completely caught off guard, and we actually came to agreement there was no way he didn't know about 15 seconds before he hit. If someone had been hurt we'd have really regretted it, but honestly it just seemed impossible he could be driving and not be aware.

Couple years ago saw SUV plow thru guard rail over embankment & into river. He came thru intersection I had just passed seconds before & I saw in my rearview mirror. Me & few other motorists stopped to help but by time we got to embankment, the car was already standing straight up in water beginning to sink. River was high because of storms previous few days. Felt helpless watching car sink and it wasn't found until 4 days later. Apparently driver had medical condition that caused him to lose control. If I had left work minute sooner he probably would have slammed right into me. As it was, as I was walking back to my car, another motorist gawking at the scene slammed into the back of my car but after what I saw that was really not even of significance.

Haven't went there in years but that Rotten website had some pretty horrific images.

I remember seeing the pics from the younger girl who stole her dad's Porsche and totaled it by a toll collection area. The pics were leaked and the family was fighting it for awhile.

That website is the main reason why I never got a motorcycle when I was in college. I went there, saw the stuff they had on there, and stopped any plans I had.

As a young kid on a long road trip w/my parents, I remember waking in the car as my parents were exiting the freeway in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania at 1 or 2 in the morning to stop and get something to eat. There was a semi that had also exited in front of us and was making a left turn under the overpass. At the same time a motorcycle came flying down the exit ramp, lost control of his bike, and set it down such that it slid under the trailer of the semi. Both the bike and rider went under, but only an motorcycle pieces came blasting out the other side. I can only assume he didn't make it.

As far as just pure images I've seen on TV or the net, it has to a couple of folks who tried the shotgun in the mouth method of suicide, flinched at the last moment, and lived. They basically end up blowing their entire faces off (lips, jaw, nose, mouth, eyes...) Then, having to live the next 30+ years blind, unable to taste, smell... I can't imagine the permanent suffering.

I have to wonder here...if they were ready to end it all at one point, but failed, did they then decide that life was worth it, even without any senses, or were they just unable to try again? Not to be insensitive, but if I almost killed myself once, then suddenly adding this to whatever was bugging me the first time would probably put me over the edge of trying again.

Still regret seeing that glass jar video posted on :e: way back when. Felt like my eyes and bum got raped.

The OP said flying by. Just think motorcycles get a bad rep. I think it's cause most think they are dangerous and are to scared to ride. So they figure anyone on them is a menace.

Also the sound they make and quick acceleration give people the wrong idea that they are going faster then they really are.

don't have anything against motorcycles but it's risky even for the best riders due to other drivers. If you get hit on a motorcycle you're screwed, in a car you can survive most collisions that would kill a person on a motorcycle.

I've told my wife many times over the years, I'd ride a motorcycle if there weren't so many **** drivers around here.

In college there was a popular waterfall that had a 50ft drop into a shallow pool, then another 25ft drop into a much deeper pool, which was a pretty popular hangout. One day we hiked to the bottom with our cooler full of beer and it was a typical weekday, absolutely packed with people skipping classes or whatnot and drinking at the bottom of the falls. Found a spot on the nearby rocks, set our blankets up and I jumped in the bigger pool at the bottom and swam up and then climbed up the side rocks to the more shallow pool as that was my preferred spot to sit. Just enough water to keep ya cool.

Right about the time I got to my normal spot, I look up and see two guys up top next to where the larger falls comes over the top ledge. One of them was sitting and the other guy had what looked like a bottle of liquor he was drinking from. He chugged a bit, handed it to the guy next to him, and goes to sit down. His feet slipped, he sat down hard on the rocks and started sliding towards the drop off. I can still vividly picture his arms flailing wildly as he was trying to grab something, anything and as the realization of what was happening to him set in. All he could manage to get out, was a blood curling "HELLLLLPPP". As he was going over the edge, he managed to turn onto his belly trying to grab a hold, but it didn't matter, everything was soaking wet, and you're not grabbing onto those rocks up top. He shot off the ledge, more or less bounced off the first ledge, much further then I would imagine, enough that his body missed the shorter ledge directly below where he was falling. Unfortunately, his face did not. His head slammed into the lower ledge, and immediately his body went limp. I can still see his limp body bouncing off the rocks as he fell the rest of the ~40 ft.

He landed in the shallow pool less then 10 feet from me on his side. Immediately the water around him turned an almost crimson color. I ran up to him and the left side of his face was caved in. His whole cheek and bottom of his eye socket looked like someone had hit him with a baseball bat and just crushed his whole face. His left foot was turned completely backwards. And was hanging limply. His mouth was in the water and all I could think was, so this is what watching someone die a horrible death looks like. I knew immediately he was dead, but saw his mouth and nose were in the water so I reached down and lifted his chin just enough to get his mouth out of the water. To my amazement he somehow exhaled. And then he screamed. I called out, "somebody call 911". About this time some lady came charging in, "everybody move, I'm an Army Medic". She asked me to help stabilize his neck as we rolled him onto his back. After we flipped him over, I backed away and let this lady take over. Medics arrived after that, and they life-flighted him to a nearby hospital.

I learned sometime later that the guy survived. Most of the left side of his face is replaced with a plate, as well as lost the vision in his left eye all together. Even knowing that the guy survived, it was easily the most horrible thing I witnessed. Hearing him scream and watching his body go limp as his head smashed into the side of the fall is a sound and an image I don't think I'll ever be able to forget.

damn.... I can handle blood, but that would #### with me

My cousin and I ambulance-chased a cop one boring summer high-school night. Caught up with him on a dark country road, standing in a ditch next to an overturned car. Sauntered up to him and asked him if anyone was hurt (Duh). He shined his light down on the ground and said "Yeah, this guy got banged up a bit." Dude's head was sticking out from underneath the roof of the car, right at our feet. One of his feet was right beside his head. End of ambulance-chasing career.

Probably couldn't have asked for a better person to just happen to be there that day than an Army Medic. Lucky guy.

I gotta say man...I guess I really haven't seen anything horrible. Never seen anyone die first hand. Never been first on-scene at a horrible car crash. Never found a body or body parts...And after reading this thread, I'm 100% OK with that. I don't handle the concept of death well, and I think seeing some of the things you guys have described would probably really mess me up.

Nothing as graphic as some of these but I did see a guy drown when I was 12. I was fishing, from shore, at a local lake with a buddy of mine when we could hear this guy yelling out in the middle of the lake. He was late teens early 20s and him and 2 of his buddies were out in the lake with some sort of make shift raft and of course it capsized. 1 of his buddies was almost on shore when the yelling started and he just kept coming to shore while the 2nd guy did turn around and went back but he was too far away and by the time he got back the 3rd guy was under the water...never resurfaced. Hung around for a while to see the fire department launch the boat but it was later that night before they found the guy's body.
