The OFFICIAL 2007 Boston Red Sox Thread (1 Viewer)

Holy ####, huge win! Gotta love the kid coming in and pitching 7 innings two hit ball, then Lowell coming up huge. Gagne looked very good tonight.

Bottom Line

By the way, for those not following closely, that was the game of the year for the Red Sox.

Lester's first start at Fenway, Kazmir (best 2nd half pitcher in the majors) pitching lights out, huge comeback, tense game throughout... I was gonna go tonight too...

Really? The Rays were the game of the year?
against Kazmir, in light of the recent surge by the New Yorkers?Absolutely...The comeback win against NY earlier this year might be better now that I think about it, but right now I am gonna stick with my gunz

Hey Saux fans, all this stuff about how you should have swept the O's is sort of absurd. Bedard gets out of the jam in the 8th on Friday if the umpire calls either the check swing or the pitch on the corner to Wily Mo properly. Pena struck out TWICE in the same at bat before he gets that soft single that starts the big rally. So it's only baseball karma evening up that the O's come back to win on Markakis' SF. (Don't forget that rally from 5 down in the 9th back in Boston on Mothers Day. Lots of karma coming home to roost in this series)

Saturday game I'll give you. Beckett is awesome.

Sunday, you only got 3 runs off of Traschel. With that line-up you should be ashamed. And again, Gag-me does throw 9 straight fastballs to Miggy, and anybody can hit an HR if they know a mid 80s fastball is coming.

So I'd say that getting 1 out of 3 is about what the Saux should have expected. Your problem is the Yankees are playing so hot right now that this isn't good enough.
wow, lot of misinformation in here...where should I startWily Mo got jobbed on a check swing that was called a strike even though it wasn't close...the knee-high fastball 'ball' call was a makeup for that. So the karma was already evened out there

And Gagne was hitting 96 on the gun with his fastball, not 80s...

Other then that, looked pretty good. Sox deserved 2/3, but #### happens
This is what DC Thunder was pointing out originally. The Sox shouldn't have swept, and they didn't deserve 2/3. Where is this entitlement coming from besides the payroll?
I think the sentiment is that anytime your starters pitch 21+ innings in 3 games and give up a total of 3 runs, you should win at least 2/3. Why is that so hard to figure out?

I love it..... some Sox fans must really be concerned if a game against the D-Rays is a "game of the year".
They have only had two come from behind wins in the 9th this year...to do at it home when your farm kid, who just finished battling and defeating cancer, makes his first start at home...

:kicksrock: They were down 1-0 in the 9th. Game of the year, seriously? The comeback vs the Yanks wasnt better? The rally in the 9th vs Baltimore wasnt better?

At this stage of the season, with momentum shifting as it has recently, I would say this was as big/important a win as any.

:everyfanotherthanayankeefanacoupleofweeksagowhentheyankswerebeatingthed-raysandroyals:But you should beat the D-Rays. The fact that the "best team" in the majors lets a team like the D-Rays take them into the ninth is a disgrace. The Sox shouldn't be letting a team like the Rays push them around like that for eight innings.

Kazmir has a 1.1 ERA for the 2nd half of the season. He is a very good pitcher, in case you haven't been paying attention. Not sure why people are struggling with this...Is this an example of the Rays pushing a team around, or an example of an Ace beating a good team?

All I know is that when the Yanks were beating the Rays, the ###-clown Yankees haters on this thread were tripping over each other to say that beating the Rays is no big deal and that a playoff caliber team should have no trouble beating the Rays. That should go for the Sox too..... unless they aren't a playoff caliber team.

The Red Sox should win every series with the Rays, no exception. I do not expect them to win every single game against the Rays though. In fact, I would expect to lose if Kazmir starts against their #5 starter

Great game for the sox. Fantastic seeing lester dominant in his homecoming. Always nice to beat Kazmir... on of the best young arms in the game.... extra sweet when that win picks up a game in the standings.

A yankee fan buddy of mine called me to taunt me before the game yesterday.. she went to the game. I told her that I guaranteed the yankees were going to lose 2 of the next three and one was definitely going to be last night. She scoffed at the notion. I've not heard from her yet today but I imagine she didn't have a very good time at the stadium last night

Come on man.... you're either being stupid or a jackass... neither of which are your usual MO. Game of the year might be a stretch but not by much... cancer kid's dominant homecoming resulting in a walk-off win against one of the best young arms in the game? Admit it... as a baseball fan you wish you would have been there.

Absolutely...if the Red Sox can build on that today (great matchup...books have the Sox as the heaviest favorite of the day) it will be an awesome way to head into the day and a half break

sort of like the yankee's shouldn't let a #### ### team like balt. ### rape them at home, 12-0? just checking.

You mean the same team that put a serious hurting on the most phantabulous, greatest, most spectacular, if you're losing against them after the 6th you might as well give up and go home bullpen of all time....not once.....but twice? Just checking..... For the record...I thought everyone made it abundantly clear when the Yankees were doing it that beating the D-Rays was no big feat?

Ya, I hear you guys, tough decision to make between the two. I can see both sides, but I guess I hope Pedroia gets it as he is more of a 'true' rookie

I've never been a fan of categorizing Japanese players (who have played in their professional league) as rookies.

I disagree with this. The award is named after Jackie Robinson and he was a player who played in a professional league before coming to the majors and winning the ROY award.

huge matchup tomorrow: Beckett vs. Santana
appears to be two even-better matchups now:Buchholz is starting game 1, presumably against Santana.Beckett in game 2, presumably against Lackey. Can't ####### wait.

Damn MLB.com sucks for probables, they cannot even get next game right :ptts:
It happens so frequently, they should just go ahead and patent mixing up the home and away teams on the gameday app, too.Call it a feature.

Every domino is set now except the first one. Now confirmed:

1. Sox either send someone down, DFA someone, or DL someone. Wily Mo is the likely guy

2. Buchholz called up to start the early game

3. Following the early game, Buch going back, Ellsbury called up

4. Following the late game, Ellsbury down, Kielty being called up

Interesting....Scioscia swaps his pitchers last minute. Santana will now go in the night game, and Lackey will pitch the early game. I think he was worried about the DH sweep. Now if Buch can come up with some early magic...

LMFAO @ lackey's comments in the 1st.

After giving up 4th run in the bottom 1st off Mirablelli's shot off the top of the monster, Lackey's facial expressions were priceles... where he can be visibly seen yelling "#### THIS PLACE!" from the mound on the NESN feed.

:o

HOOORAY FOR CLAY

Kid looked good after getting his head on straight in the 1st.

Papelbon slams the door shut yet again iwth another 2K performance 29 for 31 in save opps with a 1.88 ERA and 63K in 43 IP ... not bad kid

Let's play two... :)
