The Official Kicker (K) Thread (2 Viewers)

Seibert not seen at practice today. Could be Eberle kicking this weekend. He's been on half a dozen teams' practice squads over many years but only ever kicked in one game I think.

Siebert OUT. Eberle is the guy this week for the Lions.
FBG's have Eberle as the #1 kicker this week in their latest email rankings. Wow! Who is this guy? Yes, the Lions plan on putting up yardage and points, but a stall to an unknown kicker as #1 ranking, With Butker likely out my choices are now York or Eberle.

Edit: It appears that Eberle is a one-week play. Who knows in the kicking world. A good outing might keep him around. He has bounced around and was perfect on XP's at Utah State.

IIRC he hit a 51 yarder as a one week Covid fill-in for Fairbairn last December. Grew up in Germany, moved to California where he played football and soccer in high school. Typical young fringe K, been with 6 teams since 2020. Anyway, nice to a nonconventional rec, it's boring seeing the typical consensus picks. It's like the thinking is "even if I'm wrong I can hide in the herd and justify it by saying everyone had him in the top ten."

Should I bail on Steelers Boswell and go grab any of Gano, Patterson, Maher, Zeurline , Fairbairn,,,? Boswell was top 5 last year with Ben; the offense is SOO anemic now...

Edi to add FBG has him as #5 this week

Looks like Boswell is another top 10 rated kicker this week according to FBG's over all you mention with Maher as the closet other. He's third in my pecking order to replace Butker, who will likely not go. Check out Eberle, DET for a one-week rental? Boswell a more well known and proven commodity though. I never liked it when Big Ben and team would go for the 2 pointers for no real good reason when I had Boswell awhile back.

Trying to decide between Koo, Elliott and Maher. Koo and Maher go up against teams giving up high pts to Ka, while Jax does not. In fact they are the 2nd worst for Ks (1./5 PPG). CLE gives up 3.17 and WAS gives up 4.3) Every fantasy site on the planet likes Jake Elliott but that offense seems to be too efficient as he doesn’t get many FG chances. What am I missing?

Koo has been good and he’s in a dome. There will be some wind/rain issues along the east coast today.

Was going to go Elliott but the weather looks lousy. Thinking Maher now. Tempted by D. Hopkins @HOU, but don't trust that LAC team on the road. Could see Dallas winning comfortably over WASH and giving Maher opportunities.

Eagles special teams coordinator Michael Clay said Jake Elliott (leg) has a chance to play Week 5.

The Eagles' coaching staff gave praise to Elliott for his toughness and are optimistic that he'll be ready to play in Week 5 after sustaining a foot injury. The Eagles did, however, sign Cameron Dicker to the 53-man roster. At the very least, they're being cautious and preparing as if they will not have Elliott, who has been the team's kicker for the past six seasons.

I've been streaming the top projected available kicker off the free agent pool every week. Last year this strategy netted me +15 points more than the #1 kicker.

This year? I've gone Blankenship, Gould, Ammendola, and Eberle. 3 of the 4 got cut from their NFL teams immediately after the game. Some year lol

Sticking with Koo
I have Koo but got cute, used an IR slot to shuffle my roster a bit and squeezed Butker on before Sunday with the intent of switching to him this week. After Sunday's game Koo is now the top kicker in my league YTD. I cut Butker today.
I'm hanging onto Butker temporarily as we have IR that allows questionable status. Koo is also the #1 kicker in my league and I'm hanging onto him. May add Maher as well depending on when/if Butker ever gets healthy.

Lions signed K Michael Badgley to the practice squad.

Badgley is staying in the NFC North after filling in for Cairos Santos in Week 4. He made 4-of-4 field goals and was the Bears' only source of points against the Giants. The Lions bring him onto their practice squad as a precaution in case Austin Seibert can't go. Coach Dan Campbell is hopeful Seibert will be ready, but he already missed Week 4. Badgley will once again get the call if Seibert can't play against the Patriots in Week 5.

Eagles K Jake Elliott (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.

Elliott suffered a right ankle injury in the Eagles' Week 4 win over the Jags. Eagles special teams coordinator Michael Clay was noncommittal on Elliott's Week 5 status. The team signed former Texas kicker Cameron Dicker to their practice squad yesterday. Fantasy managers should probably move on from the kicker with a bum ankle, whether or not he is active this week.
Oct 5, 2022, 4:38 PM ET

Lions K Austin Seibert (groin) got in a limited practice Wednesday.

It is a step in the right direction after he sat out Week 4 against the Seahawks. Assuming he does not suffer any setbacks, a practice this early in the week likely means Seibert will be ready to kick against the Patriots on Sunday.
Oct 5, 2022, 5:16 PM ET

Cardinals K Matt Prater (hip) did not practice Wednesday.

Prater suffered the hip injury in Week 4 against the Panthers. He was listed as questionable to return but ultimately remained sidelined. Eno Benjamin handled kickoff duties while the Cardinals went for two-pointers on offense. Matt Ammendola, currently on the practice squad, would take over kicking duties if Prater is unable to go.

I like Maher this week. Consistent and has good range, Commanders have allowed the 8th most FGA. Dallas has the 2nd fewest number of TDs so far (4.)
Plus the Dallas coach loves his FG kickers. Will send a guy out from 50+.

Rams (Maher) have given up the 14th most FF points to kickers - 7 FG and 9 PAT

Texans (Patterson) have given up the 4th most FF points to kickers - 10 FG and 9 PAT

They're probably all rostered but these are the consensus picks for Week 5 Kickers:
  1. Succop | TB v ATL
  2. Folk | NE v DET
  3. McPherson | CIN @ BAL
  4. Bass | BUF v PIT
  5. Gay | LAR v ATL
  6. Joseph | MIN v CHI
  7. Butker/Wright | KC v LV
  8. Tucker | BAL v CIN
Top Ten matchup FFPA TO K
Middle Twelve matchup FFPA TO K
Bottom Ten matchup FFPA TO K

Dustin Hopkins (quad) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

The injury is to Hopkins' kicking leg, so it's something to watch ahead of Week 5 against the Browns. Hopkins is coming off a big game in Houston, drilling 4-of-4 extra points and both of his field goals.
Oct 5, 2022, 7:29 PM ET

Evan McPherson (groin) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

It's on McPherson's right side, his kicking leg. The sophomore kicker is 9-of-11 on field goals through four weeks and 6-of-7 on his extra points.

I've had Butker on my IR since week 1, and have been using Maher in his place. I'm considering just cutting bait on Butker entirely. Good kicker, but he hasn't really been dominant when you look at his point totals over the years.

Harrison Butker (ankle) did not practice Thursday.

It's Kansas City's first practice day of the week in advance of Monday Night Football. Matthew Wright replaced Butker last week and will likely be called on again if Butker remains unable to shake his ankle injury. Butker has not practiced since a limited session last Wednesday.

Chargers signed K Taylor Bertolet to their practice squad.

While this doesn't necessarily mean that Dustin Hopkins (quad) is out for Week 5, we've seen a trend amongst kickers this year where the practice squad addition generally speaks pretty loudly about the status of the starting kicker. Bertolet has never appeared in an NFL game, but has been a practice-squad fixture over the past six seasons. He made 11-of-15 field goals for the New Orleans Breakers earlier this season.

Eagles K Jake Elliott (ankle) did not practice Thursday.

Cameron Dicker got the practice reps and should be in line to kick on Sunday against the Cardinals if Elliott sits, which should make him a pretty popular streamer in Elliott's stead. Elliott has not practiced on Wednesday or Thursday and will likely need at least a limited session on Friday to get on the field.
Oct 6, 2022, 1:45 PM ET

Matt Prater (hip) remained sidelined for Thursday's practice.

Prater briefly kicked through the issue in Week 4 before giving way to Eno Benjamin on kickoffs. He isn't appearing likely to suit up against the Eagles. Practice squadder Matt Ammendola would be the next man up. We would not stream Ammendola vs. Philly.

Eagles K Jake Elliott (ankle) will not play in Week 5 against the Cardinals.

Rookie kicker Cameron Dicker will take Elliott's place in the lineup. Dicker, a UDFA from Texas, spent time with the Rams and Ravens during the summer. He has some deep fantasy appeal as the leg for one of the league's best offenses.
Oct 7, 2022, 4:22 PM ET

Lions released K Austin Seibert.

The veteran wasn't able to play through a groin injury last week, and the Lions reshuffled their practice-squad kicker situation by bringing in Michael Badgley for Week 5. Badgley is Detroit's kicker going forward and the Lions will likely play practice-squad elevation games with him for a few weeks. Seibert will look to catch on elsewhere after recovering from his groin injury.

If Brett Maher is your kicker, be aware the Cowboys placed their long snapper on IR, and Maher has been missing FGs in practice with the new long snapper Matt Overton.
@toddarcher

Matt Overton took all of the long snapping duties with the first-team punt and field goal teams. Nothing looked amiss in the operation but Brett Maher missed three attempts. Tucker Addington took the scout-team punt snaps.

Given this news, is anyone still rolling him out? Ugh.

Given this news, is anyone still rolling him out? Ugh.

Thought it was worth posting bc Maher is having a good year & it’s a decent matchup.

Think about this though - reporters get kicked out after seeing the first 10-20
minutes (varies by franchise.) The whole point of having a LS snapper & punter as a holder (instead of the regular C & backup QB) is so those can spend 1-2 hours working together vs ye olden days when it was the last 5-20 minutes when everyone was available.

A reporter tweeted what he saw in the open portion of practice. Still within the range of outcomes they overcame that tough 3 miss start & the got it down.

***************

This week I’ve been paying more attention to FF pts allowed (allowed to positions by teams.) Probably way too much, bc sample size. Prime example - look at Bucs VS TEs. 29th, or 4th most. But Kelce put up 9-92-1 plus Fortson slipped through for a 10 yard TD on his only target. Austin Ekeler is RB3 - you never know it if you’ve watched all the Chargers games, but 3 TD explosions cover a multitude of sins.

I’ve been greeting about Yoo VS TB (25th in pts allowed to Ks.) But Matthew (“who?”) Wright had 12 FF pts last Sunday night. Im worried about the Falcons getting blown out and foregoing FGAs or even XPs trying to keep up. Thought about pivoting to Maher or Patterson bc matchup but hate wasting a roster move on a K. Chance that Yoo still has a decent game. McLaughlin has a tough matchup facing a tough D, scored 17 in the TNF snoozefest.

Should I stick with Koo or roll with Patterson in a far better matchup? Might come down to if I can slide someone with a GTD to IR at 12:30 bc I can’t see cutting a positional player to gain an incrementally better K projection.

My opponent picked up Maher after I dropped him for Joseph.
Hope the snapper news comes to fruition .... Would love the irony.

I have Koo and picked up Maher earlier in the week but dropped him on this news. Can't spare the roster spot and this tipped the scales. I don't need a great week from Koo, I just need to survive a potential bad one and I think I can. It could go the way you suggested or ATL might try to pile up the 3's at the end of stalled drives.

It's why and how we scour every bit of information to make our best decision. Maher has been nothing short of fantastic. Enter new long snapper. How come he rates rather low just about everywhere I look? Cuz DAL is an underdog. Now, all the talk doesn't mean much. This game is interesting on many facets. LA favorites and Stafford been being Stafford of the Lions. DAL D? Maher? I really don't have much except I do have Cooper Kupp in both leagues. I have been eyeing Maher and DAL D. Pick 6 again?

I currently have Buckner on the IR, and have also been rostering Joseph

Considering dropping Joseph for Wright, which will open up another roster spot next week

He ended up doing fine. Yeah, one FG was a mess, so he only scored 10 instead of 13.

In a follow up post I brought up the Tweet was just a reporter sharing his observations from the open portion. Probably worked together for an hour or more in the closed portion.

With Logan Thomas declared out I was able to open up a spot (2 IR slots) & picked up Patterson 15 minutes before kickoff. Didn’t need it but was happy to get 7 points instead of 1. Tiebreaker for playoff seeding is total points, ya never know.

Probably just toss Paterson back and trust Koo at home vs 49ers Week 6. Not the best matchup but the last two K have scored 9 & 10 against SF.

Week 5 was a strange week for kickers. Out of tge top 18 kickers - 8 points or more - only 6 started in our league, and just 4 were in double digits. The 7 I got from Patterson was K19 but really K7 measuring just our starting lineups.

Not sure my point except the variance in kickers week to week makes finding a reliable predictive method almost impossible.
