Packers WRs coach Edgar Bennett expects Randall Cobb to see more time outside in 2013.
According to Pro Football Focus, 94.7 percent of Cobb's 2013 routes were run out of the slot. "(Cobb is a) tough-minded individual, mentally as well as physically, I think he can go outside," Bennett said. "But obviously, he’s a difference-maker in slot. Wherever you put him, he can be a difference. He can continue to be an impact player." Wherever Cobb is running in 2014, he'll be a WR2 with WR1 upside.

Randall Cobb said the Packers haven't discussed a contract extension with him yet.
Just like Jordy Nelson, Cobb is entering the final year of his deal. But both situations will likely be placed on the back burner as the Packers turn their attention to the draft and free agency. An extension for Cobb closer to training camp would make sense as he'd absolutely break the bank if he ever hit the open market. Cobb is just 23 years old and already on his way to establishing himself as one of the best slot receivers in the league. He was on pace for a 82/1154/11 line before breaking his leg in Week 9.

The Packers want to take Randall Cobb out of the return job.
It's excellent news for Cobb's fantasy prospects. His attention will be fully devoted to the passing game, where the slot man is a very legit threat for 100 catches. He also won't be risking injury during high-impact returns. Cobb has been one of the game's best return men over the last three season, averaging 26.2 yards per kickoff return and 10.2 per punt.

Randall Cobb - WR - Packers
Vic Ketchman of the Packers' official website believes Randall Cobb could lead the league in receptions this season.
Pierre Garcon led the league with his 113 grabs last season, and five players had 100-plus catches. Cobb's career-high to this point is 80 catches in 2012. Cobb reeled in 25 passes on 34 targets in his first four games before breaking his leg last season, which extrapolates to 100 catches on 136 targets across a 16-game schedule. 13 receivers saw more than 136 targets in 2013. Cobb is certainly capable of leading the league in grabs, as he's going to be used even more with James Jones out of the picture. Cobb is a lower-end WR1.

This would be the low point to sell him. He will no doubt produce well this year so the ideal time to sell, if you think he is going to be allowed to walk, is 4-6 games into season as teams look for the final playoff piece and after he has proven he can play again post-injury.I think they'll wait and see what happens this season. If he can't stay healthy and the rookies look decent, seems like an easy decision. However if he stays healthy and leads the league in receptions like some are predicting and the rookies look like most rookies, they probably would like to sign him. Unfortunately like others have pointed out in the Jordy thread, there are a lot of other guys that they need to sign after this year as well. They didn't draft 3 WRs this year for no reason and Jordy is locked up for 4 years so something has to give. And all signs at this point seem to be Cobb walking.
I think I'm going to start shopping around and see if anybody is interested in him. He looks like he's in for a great year and whether you buy into that contract year type thing or not, Cobb has a very big incentive to have a monster year.
So I think a good discussion would be assuming that he's gone, what would his value be? He's very good but his value surely tanks if he goes to a very poor team which is probably most likely to give him the big bucks.
I don't really think it's necessarily a low point, but you may be right that a few weeks into the season would be better. Waiting until after this season is over and if he gets let go, then that will definitely be his low point. Some owners might be knowledgeable enough to be aware of all the contract issue surrounding next year but with very little mainstream talk about it I think most people could sell Cobb at value. Right now the only real buzz about Cobb is that he could lead the league in catches this year. This would be the low point to sell him. Randall Cobb has "looked rather common" at Packers camp so far.
It's only been 10 practices, but ace reporter Bob McGinn says Cobb has made "almost no eye-catching plays." That's in stark comparison to newly minted Jordy Nelson, who has shown "superlative" play daily. Still, we're not panicking over two weeks of camp when Cobb is locked in as an every-down slot receiver, is in a contract year and has gained the trust of Aaron Rodgers in regular season battles. Over the last two seasons, Cobb is averaging 5.2 catches for 66.0 yards and 0.57 touchdowns on 7.1 targets per game.

Let's hope so! I liked the pace of that drive, up-tempo should equal huge offensive numbers.Monster season underway for the Cobber.![]()
You can't. He's a fringe top 8-10 dynasty WR, but without the size of the other guys. You will NEVER get a top 10 return on him. I've had the same problem and have decided to keep him. You could likely get more right now for Patterson, Watkins, and Allen.Have been trying to sell him in dynasty because I'm worried about injuries and him possibly not in GB next year but can't find any buyers in my league. Everyone has the same concerns. Hoping he starts out the season real strong so I can sell him then...or GB could be nice and extend him so I can keep him.
Randall Cobb caught three passes for 34 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams.
Cobb reeled in all three of his targets and capped off the Packers' opening drive with a three-yard touchdown catch. He was wide open running across the back of the end zone. Reports haven't been glowing on Cobb in practice, but he looked like the same old Cobb on Saturday. He's comfortably on the back end of the WR1 map in both standard and PPR scoring formats.

I don't get that ... he's never scored or projects to score enough in non-PPR to be worth a fringe WR1. PPR I can see that if he catches 85+ balls.Rotoworld:

He was 8th in PPG in standard scoring last year, right between Dez and Antonio Brown. In his last 16 games, he has 95/1174/11 receiving and 16/191/0 rushing, which would be enough points to have ranked him 6th in standard scoring last year.I don't get that ... he's never scored or projects to score enough in non-PPR to be worth a fringe WR1. I'm not sure that makes sense. He's either a top 10 dynasty receiver or he's not. Antonio Brown is in the exact same boat.

Because unlike Dez, Julio, Green, etc, the reason Cobb is scoring so much is because of the team he is on. The team where I own Cobb I don't expect to win the league this year so why not try to sell him now? If he goes pretty much anywhere else in the league then his value drops quite a bit. Almost all rankings have him ranked in the top 10. If I can trade him as a top 10 guy then I would. I agree, the chance he moves on to another team could really destroy his value like a Decker to Jets move. None of those teams will pay the premium for a slot guy like Cobb. Cobb will want to get paid well and the teams that will offer the most are usually not the teams with a top 3 QB and passing offense.Atlanta, Detroit, Indy, NE, Philly. I could see Philly and KC giving him a nice deal. Pairing him with Matthews long term would be smart. Carolina and SF would also make good spots since they are maturing their offenses, sort of the way Seattle is doing with Harvin. The way he's been talking, I could see him taking the home discount. They'll let Boykin walk and move Adams to the outside, and can still groom Janis to eventually replace Nelson.None of those teams will pay the premium for a slot guy like Cobb. Good point. The teams likely to offer premium money will want to build the WR core around him...Oakland or Houston. Not good. However, slot guys usually don't get that kind of love in FA. Randall Cobb caught 3-of-6 targets for 29 yards in the Packers' Week 3 loss to the Lions.
The sub-40 yard effort was Cobb's second straight, while he's failed to top 60 in any of Green Bay's first three games. The scores that propped his value in Weeks 1-2 were not there today. Cobb has drawn a rather modest 21 looks through the Packers' first three games, but we'd expect that average to claim. The Pack have to get the ball in their No. 2 playmaker's hands more often. Cobb remains a WR2 despite his and the Pack's slow start.

Randall Cobb - WR - Packers
Randall Cobb had three catches for 31 yards and a touchdown in Thursday night's win over the Vikings.
Cobb didn't do much outside of his 11-yard touchdown. He played the entire game, and was targeted a team-high four times. Cobb has a 24/262/6 line through five weeks. He'll be on the WR1 borderline in Week 6 against Miami.
Oct 3 - 12:15 AM
That says pretty much everything anyone needs to know about how the Green Bay / Minnesota game went.He played the entire game, and was targeted a team-high four times.
Yep. On the surface Rodgers had a good game. But 150 yards passing sucks. TDs saved Rodgers, Cobb, and Nelson owners last night. That says pretty much everything anyone needs to know about how the Green Bay / Minnesota game went.He played the entire game, and was targeted a team-high four times.

It rhymes with a bastardization of his last name? He gets a lot of red zone targets, thereby stealing the TD chance from others? Can someone enlighten me to why he is a touchdown robber?

Last week was an anomaly. I wouldn't put much weight on what happened there.Quilman83 said:Rodgers really spread the ball around last week against the Vikings. Do you see that kind of distribution to continue, or will Rodgers move back to a Nelson/Cobb-centric offense?
He's consistently good. Not great, but just good and I am very happy.Another game another TD
