The OUT Due to COVID List: PLAYOFF EDITION (Save your szn thread) (1 Viewer)

Anyone else starting players  today you usually wouldn’t, just to avoid last minute outs?

I think this is a reasonable thing to consider doing, but it's kind of specific circumstances, namely:

  • You'd need to be a favourite, giving up a couple of points of expected value to reduce the variance of hitting a zero due to unexpected late coof list (or, for that matter, other inactive reasons) seems sensible. On the contrary, if you're an underdog you need to swing for the fences
  • You need to have a fairly big dropoff to the third guy in your equation. If it's a choice of A now or B/C later and both B/C project around the same as A, then I think you can take the risk and wait. Both players being unexpectedly out
  • Not a big deal, but if the knowledge that an earlier start giving you a big or small score will give you additional clarity as to Sunday lineup decisions in terms of knowing you can be conservative or that you have to be aggressive, then go for it. This is something I think you should be doing anyway for TNF games, particularly if your opponent is more limited in his options than you are
In terms of specifics I've got AJ Dillon and three receivers who project roughly equally and I'm starting Dillon tonight, mainly for reasons that you say which are position specific - I would hate to see Mixon not actually start due to his ongoing niggles and Mattison to have got the coof from Cook at the same time and force me to start Perine or Duke Johnson

To paraphrase the great Kenny Powers, Ekeler is ####ing out and Tyreek is ####ing in. As a Hill/JJax manager, best-case scenario for me (but I wish Ekeler a speedy recovery).

Because for them their life is not in danger if they don't take it but there are numerous unknowns that could affect their career if they do. That's why they made the decision that they did.
Exactly. What some call life saving, some of us call life endangering. There’s proof of both.

I don't want to sidetrack this thread any further. The reason it exists is not to debate the vaccine, it is to list players who are out due to Covid. There are six pages worth of discussion about players who have tested positive; if you want to keep discussing this topic, please confine your posts to players who are out as a result of vaccine side effects. Since there's "proof of both", I'm sure you will have no trouble coming up with names.

I didn’t start the side tracking argument, I’m good with completely dropping it. But if you want a list of people with clots and problems and even deaths from my family of first responding nurses and paramedics, DM me. Again, I’m not talking about NFL players, I’m talking about the human population in general. So yeah, no pro coming up with both.😉

Trying to understand this.  Hill taken off list and will play, I assume he tested negative.  Kelce added to active roster in hopes he can test negative tomorrow so he can play?

I think so. There was a 4pm deadline to activate players for the 1pm games but Kelce still has to clear protocols

My totally uneducated guess is that Kelce has been completely asymptomatic for the last couple days but was still testing positive today, so they figure by tomorrow he should be OK.

That was my read on the situation too.  They were willing to eat a game day roster spot with the hope he tests negative tonight or tomorrow.  The report I read said they will test him multiple times prior to the deadline.

Do you know when deadline is?

Crap, he plays afternoon game.  I was hoping to have clarity earlier.  Oh well.
Unless you have a really good backup TE playing in the early game, I think the fact that reporters are saying he's likely to play means you take your chances on Kelce

Test him every 10 minutes until he gets a negative.  Swab all the fresh covid out of his nose if that's what it takes!

If you have the room, a lot of, ahem, acceptable TEs are available with 4pm kicks or later.  Smythe, Moreau, KC backups, Vannett, etc.

Right. Let's say there's a X% chance that Kelce plays. So your options are either Gronk at 1 pm. or X% Kelce + (1-X)% Vannet. If X = 70%, I think you take your chances with Kelce. But if X = 20%, then you're basically deciding between Gronk and Vannet, and you probably don't risk it.

In this case, it sounds like Kelce is closer to 70%.

Are there any links to the reporters saying Kelce is likely to play? I'm not finding anything
I thought I had seen something, but you're right, can't find anything that sounds particularly promising.

Schefter did tweet, however, that we were likely to know by tomorrow morning, so ideally before the 1:00 games.

521 in the month of December (476 since December 13th)

September 1st to November 30th had 143

(thanks @Penguin from MNF thread)

there’s only 1696 active players in the league

521/1696 = 30.7%

They need to stop testing the players that show no symptoms. If they want to be hypocritical and punish unvaccinated players, so be it but they can't keep benching healthy players allowing guys that can't play in the league in to games.

That's the best way to cause more players to have symptoms.
How many that are positive have shown symptoms? If you tested the entire US population right now you'd probably have more than 50% test positive for Covid. How many are actually sick.

It needs to stop or the NFL will have no post season.

100% in this camp, I don't understand why when someone have been vaccinated 100% and it' all been checked and double checked, player if perfectly healthy and not showing any symptoms of a cold or flu and suddenly they are not playing on Sunday.

Gives me a headache but I also think the Shark Pool has done a tremendous job of honoring the House Rules around here and we haven't had near the biting back and forth you see in other forums.

👍

It's not going to stop because the NFL knows players who test positive can be spreading it to others, inside the building and outside to their families and others.
They've shown they don't actually care about that. Plus they're going to get players seriously hurt. Can you imagine if Drew Brees was still QB and had to play behind that OL last night? He'd have had his career ended.

What's the deal with D. Cook?

Unvaccinated so earliest he can clear is Saturday? And if he does, is it a T. Hill situation where maybe he's weak/short on wind and splits with Mattison?

So on the protocol changes that hit today, everyone saying that despite the fact that Wentz tested positive today, he could still clear by Sunday.

Shouldn't this open the door WIDE open for key unvaccinated players who tested positive last week?

For example, D. Cook, C. Beasley among others.

Would think if they aren't experiencing symptoms they'd clear tmrw no? Or is this not retroactive??

I bet zero players will abuse this policy.  Zero.

I mean, nobody would ever think to take some ibuprofen and tylenol before taking their temp and then lying that they didnt take any medication.  Zero chance.

Also zero chance someone with chills would lie and say they dont have chills.  Would never happen.

This new policy is going to lead to a huge uptick in positive cases starting next week and into the playoffs.  Just as long as they keep testing on sunday evenings then everyone will be back the next week.  Woohooo
