The Real Reason MTV No Longer Plays Music Videos (1 Viewer)

Why do they still call their station MTV if they no longer play music? I can't believe they are still in existence. Their programming is pure garbage.

Can't watch at work. But I never understood this whole argument. MTV does not show videos anymore because it is not as big as a money maker as TV shows. People will not just randomly watch a channel hoping to see good videos. If they are watching one and the next one is a song they don't like, they will change the channel. Simple as that.

If MTV was smart, they'd keep with the TV programming they are doing now, but put every single video online and then charge some small amount for monthly access to watch whatever videos you want.

They announced it's not short for Music Television anymore. It's just a bunch of letters.

the TV is square. the music cds are square. they should call it squareTV.

As the guy said, they broadcast cheap reality TV because stupid people like to watch it because it makes them feel superior for a few hours before they have to throw on a vest and go to work at Walmart.

Wasn't MTV getting into a lot of licensing fights too? I thought artists/producers were pushing back a bit more on MTV airing videos without having to pay them a royalty.

The part about having kids, planning to go see a movie, and realizing no movies ever look good enough to go see hit a little too close to home, though.

GTV (Garbage TV) was already taken and TTV (Trash TV) sounded too provocative.

The average age of their viewers is 21. They aren't targeting people as old as you. You're a dinosaur just like I am. :)

I'm 41 and right in their creepy old man demographic.

 
This is BY FAR the one channel I don't want any future teenage child of mine watching...by far. I'd rather them watch that Kardashian #### than Teen Mom and some of the other BS on MTV. It's basically a 24 hour running documentary on what NOT to do when you're a teenager.
