The Science of Greed: Does Money Make You Mean? (1 Viewer)

I think that money just allows people to act like the person they have always been. I don't think money makes people evil or mean. It just gives them the resource to really allow that trait to shine through.

Sooo, most people are inherently mean/greedy then??

that does not explain how when given $10 and asked how much they want to share rich people share less.

Why not?
they both (a rich person and a poor person) have the resource ($10 no questions) to be whomever they want, and one needs the money more

there's no consequence for either person doing what is in their heart

I've always been meaner when poor.
This doesn't surprise me. I think a more interesting question is whether more money (eventually) ceases to make you happier.

There's a lot of research being done on that, and it's somewhat interesting. Economists have recognized the declining marginal utility of money for a long time, but happiness studies (with all the methodological problems that asking subjects to self-report "happiness" entails) suggest that Wetern countries with more robust social safety nets and worker-friendly social policies have "happier" citizens than Western countries with fewer free-market intrusions.

To be clear, none of that research suggests that countries that severely restrict economic liberty (such as by nationalizing industries or something) have happier citizens.

Similarly, women are as #####y as their looks allow. When you hear about a girl with a really great personality, you know she's at least 250lbs.

Can we nominate this for FFA FAQ inclusion?
