The Strain -- New Show on FX Sunday nights (1 Viewer)

that last episode was pretty bad
It was a 11-minute scene that they stretched to a full show. Why didn't the clerk call the cops?
They did try to call the cops. But they kept getting a recorded message. The friend of the hacker girl tried calling. I thought that in general it was a good episode. We learned alot more about the vampires than we had known before. Also I'm not disturbed that Samwise Gamgee got killed. Nice to see Vasily Fet in the fold and he is forging a bond with Setrakian. It looks like NYC is going to get over run very soon.
Oh, so they did try to call. I was dozing off during the episode. A friend watched the show and asked why nobody called the cops. He must have been dozing off too.

Anybody else watching this still? My son and I look forward to watching this each week. Not the greatest show but fun to kill some time with.

Still like it although The Master is kinda silly looking. They could have done a better job with that.

I agree. To be honest, I've always liked monsters that were a bit hidden. Think of all the Jaws scenes that were scarier because you never saw the shark. I know I posted this comment in here, probably years ago, but if you haven't and want to see the best example of this watch The Relic. The first half of the movie, you never see the monster and it was a solid movie with a lot of suspense. Then, you see the monster and the movie falls apart because it is an awful looking monster. Same here, when it was the shadowy figure flying around and it popped the airport guy's head, it was pretty cool. Now, I do cringe when I see it. Keep the hood on and the face hidden and it would be much better.

I'm still in, I look forward to it on Sunday nights. for those who read the books, do we ever get a backstory on the Master? I have to assume we will at some point.

I dig it. I hate all the good guys but I still root for them. The German bad guy is awesomely German bad guy. I like the fact that the master is so big. Not a huge fan of the Pennywise face however.

still a subscriber. im probably 4 episodes behind but have been catching up lately. I want to see more of these vampire commandos that are able to control their vampire habits. also a big fan of the dude from lost Kevin Durand guys a badass..

wish we could see more of Nora  hopefully she gets into a bikini soon

Still a fan. Finale was kind of meh. Cool to finally see more of the Vampire Special Forces. I'm in for season two.

I liked it and will watch season 2. Is it only one book? Will they finish in one more season?

I'm not sure if I could make it through a 3rd season, I'd like to see them wrap it up in 2.

I'd be shocked if she did. I have a crush on the actress (Mia Maestro) and she seems to be hesitant to show a lot of skin in the roles I've seen her in. Very underrated starlet and that could be a reason why.

She was nude in Frida, though. We only saw backside, though.

maybe that's her bargaining chip

Its 3 books. This season covered maybe 2/3rds of book 1.

I could see the rest of book 1 and all of book 2 being a 2nd season.

There is a 2 year time jump between the end of book 2 and book 3, so I don't think there will be any overlap between those books in seasons. So, if it makes it that far, book 3 is its own season, probably the 3rd and finale.

Hopefully season 2 keeps me into it enough for another one if it happens.

She needs to get naked cuz she isn't all that great at the acting.

I hope there's a running gag to see what's in Fet's backpack.

"oh no, the Master's about to eat our faces...good thing I have this giant ball of UV light!"

"oh no, there's 300 vampires ready to attack...look, dynamite!"

and Setrakian probably could have killed the master if he wasn't so damn preachy about it.

Fell asleep through the finale last night. Will still watch it.

Just a weird show though. It's pretty terrible and I'm disappointed when it ends, but I look forward to watching it every week.

That would be pretty good and yes, he could have, but it wouldn't be a series if he did.

I'll probably watch till the end, especially if it is only 3, maybe 4 seasons.

Picked up the book from the library yesterday. Is it worth reading the whole book after seeing season 1 or should i just start 2/3 in? My reading list exceeds my time available

I'm mid-way through the 2nd book. The books are definitely better than the show, with the exception of the German. They go into much more character development on the show with him than in the book. In fact I don't even remember him much from the 1st book.

I'm digging the show. It's not Breaking Bad, but it's mindless fun in a different vampire universe. The exterminators acting is pretty cringe-worthy but I can easily look past that since I want to see where the story goes.

I'm entertained easily, and liked Season 1. Just powered through it on demand and enjoyed it, solid mindless show with the right amount of gore to keep me watching.

Will tune in for Season 2 for sure.

I think there should be a Strain vampire vs Walking Dead biters movie.
Strain vampires win in a landslide, they're fast where the WD zombies are slow. That tongue is a difference maker.
For sure but the biters have numbers. And maybe they can recruit the commando vampires to their side.
I'm not up on the books, so the TV series is all I have to go on. If the government doesn't get NYC under quarantine fast (and I assume throwing whats her name off the roof will help that cause), volume won't be an issue in Season 2.

I do see a huge ***** in the armor with the centralized command via the Master. The Biters are a decentralized front, and you saw all the vamps retreat while the Master was attacked, although unsuccessfully. The Biters just keep on keepin' on.

Interesting debate topic

No idea why but it popped in my head the other night. Sort of Alien vs Predator. I could make a mint! Other than all that copyright stuff.

What are the rules, does a zombie bite turn the vampires? I'm assuming zombies can only be taken out, not turned. If so, I'd take the zombies. The vampires aren't big on tools and haven't been that hard to kill. Turning them would turn the tide quickly so to speak.

The "haven't been hard to kill" vampires were drones. The Master has the ability to give them their brains back.

I will not watch season 2. The show is just too dopey. Where are the cops? Why does nobody seem to know vampires are walking around doing vampire activities?

I will probably just watch more baseball next summer with this show sucking and "The Bridge" having been cancelled.

Get ready to be infected once again. FX has announced that season two of The Strain will debut on Sunday, July 12th, at 10pm. There are 13 episodes.

Here’s the press release:

THE STRAIN SET TO INFECT WITH SEASON TWO PREMIERE ON JULY 12th

Award-Winning Thriller From Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse, Based Off The Best-Selling The Strain Trilogy from del Toro and Chuck Hogan, Returns to FX on Sundays at 10 PM e/p, Beginning July 12th

LOS ANGELES, May 19, 2015 – The Strain returns to FX this summer for its highly-anticipated second season on Sundays at 10 PM e/p, beginning July 12th. The award-winning thriller from Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse, based off of the best-selling The Strain Trilogy by del Toro and Chuck Hogan, was the most-watched new cable drama of 2014.

As the second season unfolds, the transformation has begun. It can no longer be denied — New York City is rapidly falling to an evil epidemic, and no one is coming to its rescue. Its citizens must fight or die. Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) and his unlikely allies tried to take down the embodiment of this evil — the Master — and failed. Now Eph and Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) concentrate on creating a biological weapon to wipe out the creatures, while Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) searches for an ancient book he hopes will reveal the strigoi’s entire history…and possibly a way to kill them. Meanwhile, the Master is out for revenge, unleashing new and even more terrifying breeds of bloodthirsty creatures after our team. Our team must find a way to defeat him before the infection spreads too far and becomes irreparable … before they become monsters themselves.

The Strain hails from Showrunner/Executive Producer/Writer Carlton Cuse along with Co-Creators/Executive Producers/Writers Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Gary Ungar, J. Miles Dale, Bradley Thompson, David Weddle and Regina Corrado serve as Executive Producers. The Strain is produced by FX Productions.

Season 1 of The Strain was 2014’s most-watched new scripted series among all basic and pay cable networks in Adults 18-49 (2.4 million). On a Live+7, multi-run basis, The Strain received 6.28 million Total Viewers and 3.49 million Adults 18-49 per week.

Season two of The Strain joins FX’s summer lineup, which begins with the television premiere of Louis C.K.’s latest standup special Louis C.K.: Live at the Comedy Store on Thursday, May 28 at 11 PM e/p, immediately following the Season 5 finale of Louie. Tyrant returns for its second season on Tuesday, June 16 at 10 PM e/p. The series premiere of Denis Leary’s new comedy Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll on Thursday, July 16 at 10 PM e/p will be immediately followed by the premiere of the second season of Married at 10:30 PM e/p.
