The Top 164 (166) Movies of the 21st Century. On to the TOP 10!! (2 Viewers)

Erin Brockovich was this century? Holy crap this century is old.

I know that sounds funny but that’s honestly what I thought. Ludicrously from another life of mine.
It’s so old i remember Drew and Mike making fun of it. 80s will get the reference
Oh yeah, I hate that style of radio but Drew and Mike were great. I listened to them every morning on my drive to and from Eastern.
Don’t praise the machine.

#135: ANATOMY OF A FALL - 22PTS
Another legal thriller. This one is set in the French courts which apparently are bananas. People can just stand up and berate other people. It’s different. Also what’s different is how this movie will forever change the way your hear 50 Cents P.I.M.P. I mean the plot of the movie is sort of that a version of that song causes a woman to kill her husband (or did it?). A man falls to his death. Was it an accident or did the wife push him? The child actor in this is outstanding and I **** you not, it’s the best performance by a dog in a movie you will ever see. This is the Daniel Day Lewis of dogs. Absolute must see for anyone who likes courtroom/legal movies.
I really liked this one. It was definitely interesting how it played out from a legal / court perspective, especially how they were more focused on how things would play vs “the truth”

I thought the lead did a great job too, especially switching between languages. You could tell she was convincingly “looking for the right words”. I’ve worked with a lot of people from other countries where English is a 2nd language and I though she played this perfectly

@The Dreaded Marco 's list has been received and incorporated. I will shout him out when there is crossover. He agreed with this list 38 times overall, and 13 of his movies listed are in our top 30.
He already had 4 movies on his show up on the countdown: Midnight in Paris, Blue Valentine, Y Tu Mama Tambien, and A Real Pain. The next one will be in our first trio this morning.
I keep thinking I’m going to watch “A Real Pain” and I never do.

That was my first thought- seems like an old movie how is it here?

I don’t remember much about it but remember liking it when I watched it.

2000 exactly. I still lived in D.C. That was a different lifetime. I swear.

hints for our post-match pair:

another book adaptation from me. this time a book I had read before the movie from an author born in Kore-eda's corner of the world.
a movie from 80s by a sibling director team starring an actor I never thought would be this good based on their initial run of movies.
The matrix?

Howl’s Moving Castle
Uncut Gems

It does make it sound like that matrix sequels hence the "no way". think Bill and Ted but Tom Hanks also fits that description perfectly

I misread the first clue.

Change my guess to Battle Royale, not Howls Moving Castle.

Marco closer with the 2nd clue. My movie is not animated or in a foreign language. Author born in Japan, but i believe is a Brit.

#133/#134:

GOOD TIME

NEVER LET ME GO

Never Let Me Go is a hard book and movie to describe without giving anything away. It follows a group of kids in England at a boarding school and unravels the mystery as to why they are there over time, and the fallout of that revelation. It has a core of young actors that went on to be quite common in movies I really liked from the 21st century - Kiera Knightly, Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, and Domhnall Gleeson. I like the book more as I usually do, but I still thought the movie was really well done. Yet another on my list that gutted me and has stuck with me since reading/seeing it.

I got the sibling directors right. Just the wrong movie.
You also gravitate to similar movies so your mind might start down the right path sooner, too.

I haven't seen Good Times, but I was referring to Pattinson and his run of movies post-Twilight. For that matter Kristen Stewart as well. Both were able to break away from that stigma and have found themselves in some great movies and developed into great actors that I take note of if I see their name attached to a movie now.

My first thought with that clue was Adam Sandler. He too has made some dogs.

It's a stormy day here, so I think we will at least see 4 more movies in 2 pairs. Hints for those:

My 2nd non-Pixar animated movie of 3 on my list. Set in Asia with a similar theme to an unfortunate remake of one of my favorite 80s movies?
80s is doing his best KP impression today. One of his is a critically acclaimed smash hit horror movie the other is a movie nobody wants to rewatch from a contentious director in the FFA
A bat **** crazy horror movie from the southern hemisphere. Think about my music tastes for this guess.

But I like his early movies. ;)

Loved the book, but have not seen the movie yet. Need to put on my watchlist.

GOOD TIME
The Safdie Brothers bring their frenetic energy to this crime thriller about a dumb *** criminal played by Robert Pattinson who robs a bank with his intellectually challenged brother. When the robbery goes wrong and the brother is arrested, Pattinson sets out on an impossibly fraught mission to help break his brother out. Every step he takes just digs the hole deeper and deeper. A real scum crime masterpiece.

I'll give you that Going Overboard was a rough watch.

I've yet to be right once so is it really helping me that much?
I feel like you’re going to get one soon
I'll just keep guessing Anora until it comes up then I'm guaranteed to get 1
It would be great if you went all-in on one not on the countdown.
I'm sure you've left off plenty of good movies so I could just guess those instead.
No doubt. My top maybe 50 or so was rock solid but the closer you got to 100 the tougher and tougher it got. There’s probably 25 movies I could have swapped into the last 25 spots if I was in a different mood or had done this a month earlier or a month later.

100% I lift off 500+ that I think are 7/10 rated movies or higher. Now, you still might think only 5 of those are good as well, but the point stands. ;)

OK, the horror movies are the 2nd pair, so how about some picture clues for the weird first pair? I will be posting those soon since I am bored at home.

:ninja::boxing:

Well, yes, but I was ribbing y'all over lack of good taste

spirited away?
Not that high brow. My non-Pixar movies are goofy and make me laugh.
how to train your dragon? I'd have it on my list at least
You got warmer. Not as highly rated on RT (I looked now just for you ;) ) as Dragon, but still one I was surprised to see critics and crowd agree on and rate highly.

A fair amount of my fantasy movies would make my list (at least when I mentally eyeball it) I think there are a ton of legit good animated kids movies. I guess it helps that I think I enjoy lighter fare movies most of the time. I do like deeper stuff from time to time but I don't need the help thinking about issues (not that I'm saying y'all do) if that makes any sense
