I actually thought this was a shoo-in for top 10. Pretty surprised.

People saying this really underestimate the quality of TV over the last 10-20 years.
and some people underestimate the quality of the old shows as well.

I honestly think there were great shows and crap shows during every decade.

I have the benefit of seeing the top 10 and I have no idea how you fit All in the Family in there. It is a great show and probably could be a bit higher when I look at what's upcoming, but top 10 is a stretch.

Best Stranger Things scene for my money
(not a big spoiler, but I wouldn't watch if you haven’t seen the show and plan on going through the series):

That's a good one but I like the scene with the Separate Ways soundtrack. Steve Perry even says that sounded closer to what he had in mind for the song but the technology of the day wouldn't allow for it (whatever that means).

Not sure I’ve ever seen a full episode of this to be honest…the finale aired like 6 months before I was born
Yep but I definitely watched reruns as a kid. I was pretty young and we didn’t have cable so options were limited and I enjoyed the heck out of All in the Family.
I don’t recall it being on, or if it was a probably didn’t want to watch an old show.

I definitely remember anytime happy days or Brady bunch or an unnamed show coming on I’d change the channel or go do something else

I didn't have it in my Top 10, but don't think it would be outrageous if it was.

Even taking out the groundbreaking nature of it, it had great performances, was incredibly funny and had heart.

Obviously with so much content now, there's bound to be many many great shows - I can't remember the last great new comedy though.

26 - Stranger Things

Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror

This show nailed the 80s aesthetic and 80s movie vibe, so that was a big part of why I loved it right away.

What solidified this as such a high ranking for me was that this was the most recent show that my family all watched together at the same time in its entirety (except for the most recent season since the kids were off to school at that point). The kids were old enough to watch their own things in their own rooms, but this was a show everyone loved and looked forward to watching together. I’m sure I annoyed everyone geeking out to the fashion and music and D&D and mall scenes and everything else.

I had a bunch that I liked and some I definitely didn’t but with only a couple channels, I leaned to like a lot of them.

community? psych? A few others that haven't shown up on the list yet

Community was 64.

Psych was 100.
and ****ing Survivor was 32 so excuse me if I don't trust the accuracy of this list. I could be misunderstanding Dr. Octs post but I thought he was talking about good/great comidies that came out AFTER All in the Family, not necessarily ones that have shown up on this list. There will be atleast 3-4 comedy shows that have a higher ranking though.

We have plenty of comedies left that at least IMO should be ranked ahead of All in the Family. And that's not really taking anything away from it.

Yeah - just a little before my time. It ended when I was 5. Just never watched it.

Even shows that get the label of “this isn’t dated” is actually dated if we are honest. Nobody is convincing the average teenager or 20-something to go watch All in the Family. I have four kids and there’s no chance they would even try it even if I told them it was the greatest show ever. Just how it works.

Top 25 starts tomorrow.

The "scores" are going to start shooting up now as more shows are on many lists and highly ranked.

The #2 and # 1 shows are an interesting case. They are both in a clear tier of their own being over 600 points above the #3 show, but there is less than 20 point gap between 1 and 2.

I’m obviously biased but think my top 2 will end up the top 2. It’s the two shows I bring up to my kids all the time that they should watch. I had to essentially beg my wife for years to watch #1 and finally after like 6-7 years I convinced her and she didn’t hate it. Didn’t love it either.

1. Breaking Bad 2. Seinfeld

I've said it a zillion times but one of the best thing about the 80's were the child empowerment films. The Goonies, E.T., Stand By Me, The Neverending Story, etc.

Stranger Things nails that trope and actually improves upon it. It's an all time great show.

Now...Can I get all the seasons on physical 4k disc please?
For me it got to feel like Ready Player One in that they overdid the references and pushed the nostalgia button too much.

I agree with your #1 and it's mine as well. I think #2 will be either
The Sopranos or The Wire
though I had those at 4 and 11 for myself. Your number 2 is my number 23.

I agree with you 3xAbatteries. Your #2 is my #1. I think

the wire

will be #3 but several people have expressed not watching it and It likely hurts the rankings.

#4 has to be

the simpsons

right?

One of the reasons I think those two are maybe lower is due to the channel they were on. I’m sure I’ll be wrong though.

ETA - not a lot lower but just not thinking top 2.

ETA part deaux - I didn’t see either of those shows when it originally ran as I didn’t have cable.

My guesses as well. I'm going to put my money on the second #2 you mentioned due to the controversial ending on the other one.

Which is part of what drops AAA's number 2 down the list imo

I’ll be honest - if that is #2 I’ll be shocked - as someone else pointed out, don’t think enough people have watched it. Those that have rated it VERY highly but in this type of exercise it matters a lot when you get a 0 from so many people. If it was an average of voters who have seen it then I would agree.

I had a 6 or 7 comedies ahead of All in the Family. All of them are newer than All in the Family - some post-2000.
I wasn’t implying it was the last great comedy at all.

Best Stranger Things scene for my money
(not a big spoiler, but I wouldn't watch if you haven’t seen the show and plan on going through the series):

Such a great scene. This is my son's #1 show (he told me when I was talking to him about my rankings after I had submitted them). I was the top ranker here at #6.

We have really bonded over Stranger Things through the years. From when I forced my wife to let him watch the first season, to the anticipation for each new season and then watching every episode together, it isn't just a great show but holds a lot of great memories with my son growing up.

He's a senior this year and while we may not watch every episode together like seasons 2 & 3, I'm sure we'll connect a bit with it.

Man #2 has some good clips but it's reeeaaaallllly a "had to be there" show IMO. I've never met someone under 40 who thinks it's good. It's some funny YouTube clips, repeated attempts to stream, and never able to get last like five or ten episodes. It truly is about nothing.

I just don't get that take. It is just as relevant today as it aver was. I can tie something that happens throughout the course of the day to an episode in some way. I can do this every day. Something pops up that can be tied to an episode. While it may have been about nothing it really touched on everything.

The Separate Ways video is notoriously cheesy even by the standards of the time.

Accuracy? You really think this is some sort of objective exercise?

I’m actually surprised there’s such a big gap between #s 2 and 3. In my mind there is a clear top 3 with a drop off after that.
