The Top 300 Greatest TV Shows of All Time: FBG Consensus: 50 Lists received. 2: Seinfeld 1: Breaking Bad (7 Viewers)

I'm about to submit my list.

I'd bet my #4 and #5 are either way higher or not even on most lists.

Some heavy hitters I haven't watched so didn't include:
- Game of Thrones
- The Wire
- The Sopranos
- Lost
- Mad Men

This was fun.
I only watched half of Lost (got too dumb for me) - but the rest of those you really should rectify. All 4 of the others are some of the best television ever produced.
I agree with the Doc. 3 of those 4 are in my top 15.

I'm sure. They just came about and we're popular at times when I was too busy, not interested or I couldn't watch due to their platform.

Still never seen Ted Lasso either (despite wanting to) yet due to not having access on the streaming services I subscribe to.
Sign up for two months of HBO and knock out The Sopranos, The Wire and Game of Thrones. I know it's chalky but all three are Top 10 shows for me (Mad Men also but it's not on HBO),

I watched The Wire, GOT and Mad Men well after the originally aired - The Sopranos is the only one I watched "live".

I think my list of considerations that didn't make the cut is funny. Some of these I just threw out there to get enough shows so I could form a full 70. Probably 20 or so shows I simply forgot about.

AP Bio
Beverly Hills 90210
Big Bang Theory
Full House
GI Joe
Glow
Hannah
Home Improvement
Loki
Lupin
Oz
Spin City
Star Trek
Suits
Swamp Fox
Tales From the Crypt
The A Team
The Lone Ranger
Transformers
Wheel of Fortune
Wonder Years

We did a promo free month just so we could watch it. Totally worth it.

2 of those did make my list.

AP Bio did not but I did really like that show.

they weren't must see even when they were current.
Happy Days was huge and pretty much must see back in the day. Of course, there wasn't much choice as to what to watch but it was pretty much must see at the time.

Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley were must-see for me when I was a kid, too. Those were the top two I had in mind that I left off my list because I felt they were not shows I'd be interested in watching at this point and would just be there for the nostalgia, which wasn't the way I decided to go.

I’ve not seen four of those either (Lost is the exception)

two made mine. I also considered a couple others.

Have put in a list. It is nowhere near a full 70, and will include a few niche UK shows that nobody apart from me will have seen. I simply don't watch any TV apart from sporting events and haven't done for years

I did rewatch Happy Days and the first few seasons held up well, had some laughs and you could see the characters developing nicely, but it went off the rails at some point suffering from “the side character becoming the entire show due to his/her pop culture impact”.

spoiler alert it’s one of my few “pure nostalgia” picks that did make it.

I have many UK shows that very very few, if any will have
Fingers crossed a few sneak into the list

Still never seen Ted Lasso either (despite wanting to) yet due to not having access on the streaming services I subscribe to.
This might be a bit of a spoiler, but along with reality shows, I did not include any shows that were originally commercials
This means the Geico Caveman show also did not make my list.

AP Bio did not but I did really like that show.
I'm tempted to revise my list for this one.

I mean, it literally jumped the shark.

Yes, as I’m sure you know it’s where the phrase originates from. It lost its way before that though.

As an aside, Ted McGinley may appear in a few shows in this countdown. Not a good sign for its staying power.

My list is littered with competition shows including one in the top 5

A solid percentage of my list is niche UK shows too. Plus one Australian.

Same

I think I've reached 70, mostly organically. I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff I'll :doh:Myself about when I see others' lists.

Is there a difference between these two? Looks to be the same.

The Great British Bake Off
The Great British Baking Show

Same thing:

From Wiki :

The Great British Bake Off (often abbreviated to Bake Off or GBBO and known in the United States and Canada as The Great British Baking Show) is a British television baking competition, produced by Love Productions, in which a group of amateur bakers compete against each other in a series of rounds, attempting to impress two judges with their baking skills. One contestant is eliminated in each round, and the winner is selected from the three contestants who reach the final.

I believe they are the same 'type' show(kind of like David Letterman on NBC and CBS). I would count them as the same.

FTR, I don't watch either. I'm just guessing.

@Scoresman what about Wrestling? Sports or fair game?

There's a certain late night one that teenage shuke was very interested in.

Would have considered GLOW too had I remembered it

The original wrestling show or the drama series made about it?
The Netflix show. The original, even if I considered it non-sports (which would be reasonable), would have been far from Top 100

These are the same show. The international broadcast uses "Great British Bake Off" but the US title is "Baking Show" because Pillsbury owns the domestic trademark on the term 'bake off'. So when it's on Netflix or whatever they just change the graphics on the title.

Also - if you’ve not watched Rectify, you should rectify that.

Are Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown considered separate shows?

I had some considerations for sports-adjacent stuff and ended up being really strict with the rule and only including two documentary series. But like as a kid I used to DVR NFL Top 10s (this hour long show where'd they'd count down a top 10 of something like defensive lines or coaches or big play guys and stuff) for months of collecting them binge them in summer when school was out.

It felt too much like highlight packages and not enough space from being sports so didn't include it or some similar stuff.

For the love of god I hope this question is rhetorical
Agreed - a half hour of preparing baked fish and chips doesn’t sound like must see TV.
Nah man it's awesome. It falls under the Instinctive tried and true excellent competition shows method:

1. Start with a set number of people
2. Conduct an episode with some challenges, usually ones that are similar every season but with different tweaks
3. Cut someone every episode
4. Eventual winner

@Scoresman is "Inside The NBA" eligible for this? It's not a sporting event, but it does follow/analyze sporting events. I know it's not everyone's favorite, but I've gotten a lot of entertainment from that show over a very long period of time now.

I’ve got a few of those types on my list.

I considered The Wide World Of Sports just for the opening. But that didn't seem like enough justification to make it through to the final list.
