3 more down for me.
After Life- Was thinking this would have cracked the 200 easily. Very surprised only 3 of us ranked it. LOL one minute and balling the next.
Rockford Files- loved the show as a kid and still watch it at night to this day. Big crush on Beth when I was young.
Bates Motel- Another one I thought would garner more votes.
After Life is fantastic
I thought this was a perfect FBG show. Still really shocked it’s lack of legs here.
Never heard of it
Ricky Gervais? Hard pass, don’t find him funny
You should at least give it a shot, really well done imo.

Criminally low for Cobra Kai, but I get that you really need to be a fan to appreciate it.
It got so freaking bad though.

Kids fighting in the mall, falling down stairs …parents :meh:

Really enjoyed the first season, but this show should be in the dictionary under “falling off a cliff” imo

That's the thing. You either embrace the ridiculous or you don't. It's more fun to just let it ride and enjoy it.

The whole thing is ridiculous when you realize that everything that happens is all over children's karate. :lmao:

207House of Cards4

One more off my list. I had House of Cards at #15. I really thought it was interesting and could imagine how the back room deals are done and how things are bartered. I don't really count the last season when Spacey was exiled as that was kind of silly. But all in all I was so surprised with how much I enjoyed it. I also didn't watch it first run. I caught it well after it had concluded so even going in with highish expectations it exceeded them by a lot.

Cobra Kai was a miss. I really enjoyed it and the concept. It definitely got outlandish but I didn't care. Johnny is still the best part and it would have been better to have more of him stuck in the 80's the last couple seasons but it was still there occasionally which kept my interest. Loved the call backs to the movie and all the people they brought back along the way. Great concept and fun show. I wish I would have remembered it because it would have been in the top 70 for me.

Got some serious catching up to do - stupid work.

Of these 30, King of the Hill (37) and The Tick (21!) are the only two to make my list. The Tick, in particular, made me laugh harder than just about anything. It helped that I watched it during peak bong-usage days, for sure, but it was fantastic. King of the Hill - I still routinely say "What in the name of high school football?" whenever I want to sound incredulous about something.

I do really like Slow Horses. It was in the running but just missed the cut for me.

Weeds fell into the trap of being on for too long. It careened into Terrible-ville pretty fast and hard after a few seasons. If it didn't try to hang on too long and had a satisfying arc, it might have made it to my list.

House of Cards - see "Weeds." I'll forgive that it was always completely ridiculous because it was fun as hell until it became awful.

Cobra Kai is fun but I haven't gone back for the last season or two yet - that would never happen to a Pantheon show.

I've watched a couple of the others but most I never did.

The British version of House of Cards is good too if never seen that one. I might be a bit more partial to the British version because a bit more plausible, and, ew, Spacey.

I had King of the Hill at #69. It was one of my last-minute replacements after it was revealed on some 46-51 lists. It was written very well, and gave you plenty of opportunities to both mock the characters and identify with them. Hank continually asking the Laotian neighbor if he's Japanese or Chinese sends me.

Also, the house we lived in between 2007 and 2012 had propane heat, so I must have annoyed my wife by saying "proPANE and proPANE accessories" in Hank's voice a squillion times.

I saw quite a few Rockford Files episodes in reruns and have always liked James Garner, but I didn't consider it for my list.

My wife and son watch NOVA sometimes but I generally don't.

I watched the Who Shot JR episode like the rest of the country, but otherwise I didn't see much of Dallas. That the entire country could be transfixed by a TV episode that wasn't the Super Bowl seems so foreign now.

Have not seen the others.
Final episode of M*A*S*H* is another one.

:hifive: for my fellow Sports Night fans

Good show but didn't quite crack my list. Not sure if it was because it was a little too slow or the slight whimper of an ending, but, it doesn't quite have the pull with me as much as it once did. We're also well past that age of media and in a whole different world now.

As an aside, I worked on the same set some years after and it was a little weird walking those halls, like being in a house from your younger years after a remodel.

King of the Hill feels right here.

Good not great for a long time. Hank Hill was based on a Beavis and Butthead character for those that don't know.

I'll still bust out a "fries, pie, coffee.. you got that good buddy?" from time to time.
Solid show, I had it at #46, which seems high in retrospect. Kahn stole the show every time he was on.
My brother-in-law recently got remarried, this time to a Taiwanese woman living in Japan.

Good Eats is one of the best cooking shows, and while I’ve watched a lot of cooking shows I just can’t fit them in. Love the way Alton scienced things up

Bourdain was a super cool guy again just not something I really gave consideration to

I top 25 or 50 cooking / food shows list might be fun to do though

Cobra Kai is good fun but man it’s gotten almost unwatchable

I remember liking the Practice, haven’t thought about it in years though. Can’t think of a single memorable scene

I remember liking Sports Night, good cast, Peter Krause is such a good actor.

Yup, not a fan of his either, but this show worked for me for whatever reason.

My shows revealed so far (with consensus ranks):

38 - The Pacific (229)
45 - Good Times (not in top 300) :sadbanana:
56 - Slow Horses (226)
60 - Dallas (215)
66 - The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (246)
67 - The Rockford Files (218)

I have two more in my top 70 that didn’t make the top 200. I’m guessing they are two of my 63, 64, 68, and 69 picks, but I’ve been surprised with a couple of the already released rankings so far. Don’t tell me what they are Scores, I like the surprise element of this.

so far I've had 8 shows not crack the top 200

Supernatural
Boston Legal
Boy Meets World
Loudermilk
True Blood
Yellowstone
Black Sails
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

If I have 34 shows remaining that means that 28 of mine didn't make it. I wonder if I had the highest # of shows to not make it.

I wonder about The Pacific's low ranking, given that we're likely to see its predecessor very highly rated. Did people watch it but not care for it, or just never watched it at all?
I have never heard of it. I have no idea what it is about.
Same producers as Band of Brothers, but in the Pacific theater. Miniseries on HBO. I highly recommend it if you liked BoB.
The downside is that there wasn't really one group of guys we could follow through the Pacific theater and get the full story, so they had to use two different groups. It hurt it as a show compared to BoB. I still ranked it at 38. They probably should have named it Band of Brothers: The Pacific.

Absolutely loved Band of a Brothers and the Pacific was just meh for me. Might have to rewatch it, but it definitely didn't leave that big impression on me for some reason

My list took a bit a a blow, but it makes more sense that many of mine would get knocked out in the 1st 100 than I would stay near the top of the pack with shows left in the 200. Comments with some @s because a couple of these I've recommended a lot. (my rank is listed)

NOVA - #11 Not many shows made great science stories so accessible. Such a quality show that I'd want access to on my island.
After Life #48- @steelerfan1 and somebody else sang it's praises. In movies and shows I place a high value on things that can make me laugh and cry in one episode. I complain about Netflix a lot, but this and another show that I don't think we have seen are the 2 that I recommend to people a lot. Of course a bit might depend on how grating you find Gervais.
Dallas #33 - Just one that stood out from childhood that my parents weirdly let us stay up to watch.
The Real World #26 @guru_007 is underestimating the impact of this one. This was a core part of my college and MTV watching, which where I put 5 shows that were essential watches for me around then. This is also admitting that I haven't seen more than 1/2 the seasons. I was a little late to the OG, so I hopped on with LA and jumped off after New Orleans. Our favorite was probably London (Jacinda!) and of course SF with Pedro and Puck. Good memories here.
Bates Motel #49 I will echo fellow MADer @simey here. This was one of my bigger surprises when I was heavier into TV in the 2010s. The leads of Fermiga and Highmore were great and they did a good job with the atmosphere and creep factor. A well done show that did the movie/book and characters justice. It also didn't overstay it's welcome at 5 seasons. Another I recommended a lot in the video store days.

Cobra Kai #42 I freakin' LOVED the first couple seasons. Yes, I get what some of you are saying that is was always a bit corny. But it was that in the way that the first movie was - it was corny, but also well made, funny, and I thought they hit a HR by flipping it a bit and having us have some sympathy for Johnny. Problem is that lasted about 3 seasons then the inevitable happened and they started to trot out the side characters and villains from the movies with diminishing returns. To me it got too much to keep watching. Even Kreese I found cringeworthy and that was pretty early in the seasons. I haven't bothered with S5+ yet.

I wonder about The Pacific's low ranking, given that we're likely to see its predecessor very highly rated. Did people watch it but not care for it, or just never watched it at all?

Agree, I had The Pacific at #31. So well done. I'm thinking most rankers never saw it.

I liked The Pacific better than Band Of Brothers, I think because it conveyed a bit more of the global scope of the war, or at least of the Pacific theater. Neither made my top 70, but they'd probably be in my top 200 or so.

RankTitleLists
221Damages3
230Ken Burns' The Vietnam War3

These two were on my list, and I ranked both pretty high. I ranked Damages #7, and Ken Burns' The Vietnam War at #13. Damages was a great drama/thriller series, and Glenn Close was fantastic as the merciless lawyer Patty Hewes. I loved that show. Ken Burns' The Vietnam War is my favorite documentary series based on a war.

Agree on Damages, which I ranked #37. What an amazing cast across at least parts of the show's 5 seasons (many in just 1 season):
  • Glenn Close
  • Rose Byrne
  • William Hurt
  • Judd Hirsch
  • John Goodman
  • Ted Danson
  • Marcia Gay Harden
  • Timothy Olyphant
  • Ryan Philippe
  • Zeljko Ivanek
  • Martin Short
  • Lily Tomlin

Regarding the Vietnam War, it has been pretty heavily criticized for inaccuracies and omissions. Maybe it isn't possible to make a serious documentary series on a subject like that without heavy criticism.

If I didn't miss any along the way

So, 37 more on the list
18 "solo" picks

Miami Vice
Miami Vice was great season 1. And then my schedule changed, and I never again saw an episode. So, this would have made the list if not for the technicality of only seeing one season.
It stayed pretty good all the way through, though the novelty wore off after a couple of seasons (& about a million copycat shows).

Ted Danson was so freaking good on Damages. He was off the rails.

As far as Burns goes, all of his docs get criticized for that stuff (& other things I won't go into). I don't like them as history books, but as entertainment.

I had it at #67. I did rock the Crockett unconstructed blazer, t-shirt, and no socks loafers look on at least one occasion in the 80's.
