Doing a rewatch of this presently. So bizarrely good

62 - 24 - This aired on a night when I played softball, so I was never home when it was on. I tried to stream it a few years ago with my kid, but it didn't really grab either of us.
I didn't watch it "live" because everyone kept telling me I had to watch it. I didn't watch out of spite.

I did try and watch it a few years ago and got through a season and a half before I gave up on it. Don't get me wrong, it was good and entertaining but it was just way too repetitive. I think a season was about the right amount for it. After that it was just the same thing over and over. I saw enough. I may go back a some point but I don't feel I need to. I got the gist.

Went from zero to all caught up on Severance in a litte over a week. Not sure where i'd rank it but I'd guess around top 30.

We’ve got 3 episodes to finish up I think

Not sure how I feel about it, it’s kind of like a typical Apple product, aesthetically pleasing but lacking substance. Maybe these last few episodes will blow me away.

I don’t dislike it but definitely seems overhyped
Agreed. I’ve binged it. And not much has happened in 18 episodes

I never saw more than a couple episodes, but it sounds like this is a better series to have watched in real time (or at that type of pace) rather than to have binged.

Yeah they were pretty good at creating a cliffhanger at the end of every episode. Sutherland was great in it but it got pretty ridiculous after awhile

I remember enjoying Season 1 when watching it real-time, and it would have been high on my list if it ended there. Think I stopped somewhere in Season 2 when things went down the cougar path.

I don't know if the Showtime season detract or not for me, but the first was just great. Though it was obvious who killed Laura Palmer in the first few minutes of the show - at least from a human, flesh and blood perspective. Even if the "obvious" is ultimately for the wrong reasons.

That's the variant that almost made my list. I do appreciate these (OG and SVU) in the sense that they're largely self-contained so I can just watch a random episode, enjoy it and move on without feeling lost or being compelled to watch the next one in order to "get it". Dramas with stand-alone episodes are rare these days.

I ranked both but like the original better - not as interested is sex crimes than murders. Also, always felt the cast was better on OG.

This is addictive, turn-off-your-brain-and-get-absorbed-in-the-plot TV. It has a formula, but damn, it WORKS. And has continued to work for a squillion years and regular turnover of the cast (which is by design so that actor salaries don't become too expensive; **** Wolf learned this the hard way on one of the other L&O franchises). While the focus is always on the case of the week, there is enough character development to reward you if you tune in regularly.

I also had Law & Order: Criminal Intent on my list, which presumably won't appear. It was basically a cross between regular L&O and series like Monk that spotlighted one quirky crimesolver and their out-of-the-box thinking and methods -- here played by Vincent D'Onofrio.

Despite the goofiness, this show captures the medicine and what it feels like to be a resident working in a hospital better than basically any medical show. Though admittedly I haven't see The Pitt yet and I've heard that's pretty good.

I heard Law & Order the SUV is the best of these.
I couldn't watch SUV anymore once I had a child.

SUV did have the best character development of the franchises, though from what I understand the recent seasons have been dominated by Benson.

We also should acknowledge how controversial it was to cast Ice-T as a cop less than 10 years after he released a song called "Cop Killer."

Hotter take: Who do you consider the second character on Seinfeld - Kramer, George,Elaine?
There's no second character; it's an ensemble. There's no first character either, title of the show notwithstanding.

That said, Niles Crane is still the best.

Yes, Niles is one of the 3 greatest sitcom characters ever, with George Constanza and Archie Bunker being the others. You can put them in whatever order, but that's the list.

ETA - if one were to throw Barney Fife into this group, I guess that would be acceptable

BoJack Horseman
From Wiki
BoJack Horseman is an American adult animated tragicomedy television series created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg. It stars the voices of Will Arnett, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins, and Aaron Paul. Set primarily in Hollywood, the series revolves around the anthropomorphic horse BoJack Horseman (Arnett), a washed-up star of a 1990s sitcom who plans a return to relevance with an autobiography to be written by ghostwriter Diane Nguyen (Brie). It also chronicles his contentions with his agent, Princess Carolyn (Sedaris), former rival Mr. Peanutbutter (Tompkins), roommate Todd Chavez (Paul), and his declining mental health.
The show is funny, but it can also be extremely depressing.

Hopefully the characters and the actors portraying them intrigue you enough to watch it. Mr. Peanutbutter is great; hell, they all are (and they didn't even mention Vincent Adultman).

This show could be brutal on your psyche if you're feeling vulnerable. It's also one you need to watch in order, as silly as that may seem for an animated series.

I don't know if it could be made today without being really cynical.

I wouldn't call myself a Trekker but I am more than a casual fan. The three year run of Star Trek is about cut into equal thirds - one third is great, a third is meh, and a third is more like "Star Drek amirite"?.

I really like how SciFi shows of the past portray the future. If we ever get to a combination of a) unlimited power supply and b) the ability to turn energy into any matter we choose then we too will have a reduction in socio-political stressors.

I'm not sure a show has ever done depression like BoJack. Terrific television.

Another groundbreaking show that had a massive legacy and expanded well outside the TV screen. The definition of Great.

Wish I still had my Star Trek lunchbox.

Probably won't be a surprise - never seen an episode of any Trek. The couple movies i watched ruined my motivation to try the show. ;)
